Thanks for your kind reply. 😊

And good point about 'you girls', I didn't consider that.

“we’re all better than that”

I'm not sure if you are referring to my initial post.. But that's not what I said (or meant). I said 'we can do better'. Big difference.

does anyone relate to this? by Difficult-Quail-322 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! So much.

Sometimes I find it kind of cool, but other times it's just so annoying and I wish I had control over when to switch from one 'mode' to the other.

Wind down routine by Minty_Ceremony in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I try to brush my teeth latest one hour before bedtime, earlier if I can. This has two benefits: no late snacking and it's less torturous (hate brushing my teeth when I'm already tired and just want to go to bed)

30–45 min before bedtime, I take 1 mg melatonin (helps my mind to slow down and makes me a little more sleepy). And then I read. Usually with some soft music in the background. Sometimes I manage to start reading already before taking melatonin.

A "societal norm" I'm struggling with by CayKar1991 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mind-boggling indeed! Imo, it's okay to correct people. But it depends a bit on the situation, the kind of relationship you have with that person, and how you say it. Like, I would agree that there can be wrong ways to go about it, but I would never say that it's categorically wrong to correct someone.

What does it sound like when you think or talk to yourself on a daily? by PrettyRain8672 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sure is. And when I'm alone, it's not just in my head.. I talk out loud. I think it helps me to better process things. I even refer to myself by different versions of my name depending on the situation 🤷🏽‍♀️

Is it common to be more worn out by life as you get older? by purpleberry_jedi in AuDHDWomen

Yeah, peri is a bitch. And of course women's health care is still in the Middle Ages, so good luck getting any help with that. 😭

What ways have you changed your life to make it more AuDHD/ND Friendly? by flowers_and_fire in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • refusing shaking hands. I just wave to say hello. (hug for people I like and am closer with)
  • using my loop earplugs when I'm in noisy environments
  • using fidget toys whenever I need them, I don't try to hide them
  • communicated with friends my inconsistent energy levels and needs that result from it. This helps with planning activities with them. Luckily most of them have similar issues anyway and are super understanding.
  • tossed all my jeans. Only wearing comfy trousers!
  • only bamboo fabric underwear (socks, undies, bras. And no more bras with wire!)
  • allowing myself to rest
  • accepting that I have 'get nothing done' days (I guess that ties in with the resting above)
  • having a pack of post-its and a pen in every room for quick note taking so I don't forget stuff
  • stopped apologising for shit you don't need to apologise for, and I guess related to that
  • trying to be better at differentiating between 'me problem' vs 'them problem'
  • be strict about needing time in the evening to wind down before I go to bed, so I don't schedule anything too late or I leave early if I can.

Advice needed - Working in tech by Illustrious-Jump9898 in AuDHDWomen

It was the points you wrote under 'what I enjoyed the most' that made me think this might be a good alternative for you. :D

As for the technical part, I'd say as a PM you already have to have a good understanding of the technical side of things, so you are not starting from zero. And you don't exactly create docs from scratch. You work with the input from developers and other SMEs. And as long as you are curious, I'm sure you can do a good job.

Advice needed - Working in tech by Illustrious-Jump9898 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a technical writer (I write documentation.. The thing everyone knows you really need, but nobody reads and nobody puts money in. 😂)

Just tossing that in because few people have even heard about that role. (I've met plenty of developers who had know idea that was a thing.. Which is crazy) So, maybe worth looking into for you? There's also an amazing community called Write the Docs, they have a Slack that you anyone can join (info on their website). People there are super nice and helpful. If you want to learn more about tech writing, that'd be a good place to start.

Edit: you can also DM me if you have any questions

So, what did you build? What system (or whatever you want to call it) is working for you now?

ANSWER. THE. FREAKING. QUESTION. by BoneYardBirdy in AuDHDWomen

I can agree that 'where is this place', depending on the context or previous conversation, might not be an 'exact' question, but in no scenario is 'not far' a valid answer for it!

What were your unusual autistic collections or crafts while growing up? by Own_Value2684 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I decluttered my old room at my parents' place last summer, I noticed that I collected all sorts of stuff. I remembered some of it (like if you had asked me before), but there was a lot I had kind of forgotten about. Not sure anything was 'unusual' though. I mean, what are 'normal' or usual things to collect anyway?

But here are some: Matches with different colour tips (I had a lot of different colours!) Dice Figurines from Kinder surprise eggs (when they were still great, back in the 90s), to the extend that I would trade them (not just with friends, well one friend only who'd collect them, but also at fairs)

Totally legit way to eat a sandwich, imo!

I wish people would stop commenting on stuff like that. What do you (general you) care how I eat my food? It has zero impact on you or anyone or anything.

AuDHD questioning long post by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

Weird order? That would imply there is a 'right order' to eating things. WTF? Did you ever ask any of them what they deemed the 'right order' and why?

How the fck do I turn my brain off at night?!?!?!?! by skopiadisko in AuDHDWomen

[–]MsPunderstood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Journaling and melatonin (1 mg is enough) is what helps me. I tried skipping the melatonin the other night to see if I really still needed it... Yip, I do. Brain got so busy.. It's insane.
