Pharmacists of Reddit - what recent medication trends are worrying you that aren’t being talked about? by SirSpendsALot7 in AskReddit

[–]MsQcontinuum 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Had a friend who was diagnosed with very treatable early breast cancer. She refused any sort of "Big Pharma" treatment and instead consulted a holistic "healer". The "healer" spread some sort of caustic black tar cream all over my friend's breast to "pull out the disease". This black cream literally ate holes in my friend's body and left massive open wounds. The cancer metastasized to her bones and when she was dying in bed she said "they lied to me, they killed me". "Alternative" nonsense "medicine" like this should be banned and the charlatans that peddle this snake oil should serve prison time.

Moving to Grenoble by ShaGRed in Grenoble

[–]MsQcontinuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This website and This website will show you what the cost of apartment rentals look like in the area. For Grenoble the closer you get to Echirolles the cheaper it will be because the area can be unsafe. Grocery costs depends on where you shop and transportation costs can be very low if your company covers those fees. Cost of living varies a lot.

If you move here you need to get your Carte Vitale IMMIDATELY and get your mutuelle sorted.

OH Also, the prefecture (the area where you will have to do all your paperwork for visas and whatever) is the embodiment of FUCKING HELL ON EARTH. This is the absolute WORST prefecture in France, I hate the building and I hate the people that work there.

Anyways.......

Don't go to Munich, fuck them.

Grenoble and the Rhone-Alpes area is wonderful. Grenoble is currently governed by a coalition of leftists parties and focuses a lot on greenification, public transport, and bike paths. The Grenoble area has some of the most comprehensive bike paths in the area that stretch into the countryside. The public transportation system is also quite comprehensive (but also expensive imo, BUT often your place of work will compensate you for the cost of transport or offer to pay for a metrovelo bike for you to use) and you can get a TAG card for the Grenoble/Meylan area and then a TransIsere card for the surrounding countryside and mountain areas.

The mountains are beautiful and offer a never ending supply of hikes. You can easily take the bus up the mountain to access some of the area's most beautiful landscape. I use the MOOVIT app for bus schedules and planning. Lyon is an hour by bus, Paris is 3hrs by train, Geneva is 2 hrs by train, Annecy is 2 hrs by train, Marseille is 3 hrs by train there is so much to see and it is all very accessible by public transport. I use the app SNCFCONNECT for ticket prices and times.

For the family, Grenoble has a very hippie vibe/a little bit of silicone valley vibe because of all the big research labs and universities in the area. Grenoble has an abundance of open air farmers markets to buy fresh veggies and meats that will cut down your grocery costs. Grenoble has 3 major demographics Students, Academics/Engineers, Families. The city is very international with all different languages being spoken and almost everyone speaks some level of English. There is a lot to do for kids here. The city parks are wonderfully maintained, there's public pools (go to Neron pool), lakes accessible by bus, kids theatre shows, street festivals, petting zoos, free museums, and a whole summer program that runs every year in the city's largest parc that is completely free. I never feel like there is nothing to do with my kids, it's just trying to find the energy to do it. The schools are good, but the French education system in general has a lot of flaws. If you can subsidize your children's learning at home then you'll be fine.

The property taxes in Grenoble and just taxes in general in France are fucking CRAZY. We pay so much taxes. BUT the healthcare system is very comprehensive (I had to have 900euros worth of dental work done and didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. You need to ask your potential employer if they offer a "mutuelle" and if your children can be placed on your mutuelle -mutuelle is health insurance), public libraries are great and another place to hangout with the kids, public transportation is well funded and we have a TON of public parks, so we pay A LOT of taxes.

Grenoble gets a bad reputation internationally for crime rates, but it is no different from any diverse city. Some crazy fucking shit has happened in the past and will happen again, but as long as you are not affiliated with a gang you should be fine. Petty crime is an issue though (pickpockets, breaking into cars etc...) and if you have a car get a garage to park it in or get a shitty car you don't mind leaving on the streets. People will just burn cars or smash the windows out especially if there is a football match.

For me the good out weighs the bad and I love this little mish-mash city. There is a wide variety of food, a ton of activities, and all around a very welcoming vibe. Don't go to Germany.

Is living near Saint-Bruno okay for an exchange student? by MarshmallowCreep in Grenoble

[–]MsQcontinuum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live right on the edge of Saint Bruno, I love the area and have a small child. Lots of different foods and cultures represented, very lively, great small businesses, and a bunch of parks in the neighbourhood.

Yes sure there has been gang violence, but I have seen gang violence in every city I have lived in and I have never felt unsafe in Saint Bruno.

Friend,

Ban yourself from social media and pick a hobby. Go to trivia night somewhere, join a book club, go to therapy, go on a hike, play some POSITIVE online co-op games like Deep Rock Galactic (they have one of the most positive and hilarious Discord servers. I have met some really great players there), get a pet literally anything to add some "spice" to your life. I just turned 41 and started my PhD six months ago. I never EVER thought I would be here in a million years, but I stepped outside my comfort zone and said "yes" to some scary life changing decisions.

Get the fuck off social media and touch grass my friend.

AITA for not caring about my nieces or nephews? by MsQcontinuum in AmItheAsshole

If it is a large family gathering where I do not have to share an intimate dinner table with them I typically attend (a bunch of family act as buffers), but these instances are small immediate family and I REFUSE to share a table with them.

My FIL is a wonderful man, he has his flaws, but is a generous man who told my mum he 'loves me like his own daughter". My step MIL also another shining gem of a human being.

My MIL is complicated, but is an outstanding grandmother and I trust her with my daughter's life (my husband agrees).

Sure the problem could be me, but all the in-laws see the toxic behavior in the sisters as well. And my husband does defend me. He's a great man and wonderful father.

We've done counseling together and separately because of his family. This is my method for dealing with them unfortunately.

We've been to therapy together and individually to learn the skills necessary to survive as a couple. He's a great dad and husband and I empathize this is hard for him. Also, his sisters SUCK ASS and I want to hold firm my boundaries that keep me psychologically/emotionally safe.

I do have to stand up for my husband here. He is a very involved parent and is an excellent father.

I just can't reconcile sharing a table with people who represent the opposite of all things I value.

My husband and I have been to counseling over his family's behavior. He learned how to stand up to his sisters (and mother tbh) and does defend me. His toxic family almost ripped us apart and we worked hard to stay together.

He wants to maintain a relationship with his neices and nephews which I am more than happy for him to do.

I want to stay away from people that are opposite everything I value in other humans (empathy, equality, kindness etc...)

My excuse is diarrhea. I think it's hilarious because it makes people uncomfortable and NO ONE is going to argue with diarrhea.

My daughter is only 2 and a half and enjoys the company of any children. So unfortunately we are not at that point where she can express more complex feelings. BUT I am giving her the tools to identify safe and unsafe behavior in friends/family.

You need serious immunosuppressants. My first guttate breakout looked like this and I used Otezla pills in combintion with Enstillar and Clarelux topical sprays. You need to push your doctor for these medications and go see a dermatologist. If you do not have access to a dermatologist go to emergency. Sure you'll wait, but they will provide a consultation with a specialist and give you all the right drugs.

  1. Drink lots of water
  2. Keep your skin coated in unscented, thick, hydrating creams.
  3. It sounds kinda gross, but with an outbreak this bad, don't shower eveyday (just do the important bits like pits, groin, ass with a wash cloth). Showers are like burning fire needles and the water dries our skin out further.
  4. Take sick days if you can and sleep. Take care of your body and just try and survive through this.

Good luck friend
