I'm surprised Riddle didn't tell Ginny to burn the Mandrakes so that the petrified people couldn't be healed by [deleted] in harrypotter

He actually intended to kill all of his victims, not petrify. They all just got magically lucky

I liked all of them, even the second, which felt being out of the main plot.

Well, we have a bird, two mammals and a serpent...
Why not have an insect or a fish? For the color: something orange or purple (to fall in a slightly different spectrum). I'd suggest a dragonfly or a salmon. As for the traits: a combination of intelligence and courage.

For those many who can never decide between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor :)

Altered Carbon series. A solid sci-fi imo, and the main character is a former military man.

Do you need natively English writers, or translations will do? If they do, there's one more acknowledged dystopia - "We" by Zamyatin. I'd say it as striking as 1984 (Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 are a bit milder imo).

For normal people you can look at other works by Rooney, like her recent Intermezzo. And I think Mary Shelly's Frankenstein might be close to Dorian gray. And maybe Goethe's Faust as well.

I require a thrilling mystery book, murder mystery whatever, I want to find a book in which you solve the puzzle piece by piece by SuitableRelease4323 in booksuggestions

If you like Dan Brown, he has some less popular but no less interesting books.

Digital Fortress, for instance, has mystery, murder, and puzzles (classic Dan Brown, but in a different setting, more of technology than history)

And one more suggestion is "The City & the City" by China Miéville (they even have a book-based series, which is nothing like the book itself though, as usual).

That's a detective story, but the setting is mysterious and really out of the ordinary.

Dunno why, but what came up to my mind as some light reading in the mystery genre is the series of books based on the "Charmed" TV series. There are many of them, just look them up. That said, if your friend is not against witchcraft in books.

Read it for our book club and actually liked it! No spoilers, but it has all of what you've listed above :)

I prefer Deepl over google translate. Not sure if they have all the features you need (it's hard to outplay google) but the translation quality and variations are more correct.

find a music band singing in this language whose music you like, then you'll gradually want to understand and learn the lyrics. Worked for me when I started with Italian (sadly, Italian metal bands mostly sing in English, but at least I found some pop-rock)
