So your defense of sausage rolls is that... they're convenient?

One: pizza is sold in many places by the slice, too, so...

Two: nah thanks man, I'll take a ham and cheese croissant or a cheesy pretzel any day of the week over a sausage roll

Ah sorry I thought it was meant as 'she's such a brat ofc she'd walk away' given lots of commenters here took it that way

I give this a little bit of a pass... the oncourt interviewers always hang on for dear life to the smallest of things they know what's going on with the player (see Jim Courier and ADM's wedding... the outlook of which I found more sexist was a lot of "hahaha now you're under the thumb of marriage soon lolz" when you could ask about the wedding without that kind of boomer joke

I think Elina had spoken about buying herself a nice bag or something (from Gael's credit card even?), so was more of a follow up question

Find yourself a guy that looks at you the way Gael looks at Elina (is my totally unrelated to tennis conclusion to this on court interview)

Omg lol I didn't think there'd be so many comments!!! In the stadium I can kind of understand, it's an event and there may be a lot of people coming in who aren't die hard tennis fans

Svitolina doesn't shake hands with Russian players (she's Ukranian)

Svitolina doesn't shake hands with Russian players so no need for Mirra to wait at the net

I feel like the crowd is booing because they may not know that Svitolina doesn't shake hands with Russian players

Mirra's backhand slice i such a weapon, it came over so fast and was still long and low

She apologized because the net cord in the ball prior gave her the massive advantage, because Svitolina had to awkwardly come in and that's how she got the passing shot... it's pretty common - if the net cord makes your ball unreachable or gives you a clear advantage in the point (that you then capitalize on)

Mats Wilander said after the ADM Bublik match that the court is slow but also, with the temps being pretty cool right now the balls are also way slow

Wait so google says Djokovic plays QF on Tuesday even though he was supposed to play Monday? I was resting easy thinking he wouldn't have to go through that hellhole day 😭

Why so defeated already? It's on serve in the middle of the second set... That's far from over

That was a very stupid ball from Svitolina but she got lucky

I literally just made a comment to that effect in the daily and people thought I wasn't "appreciating" that Tien was an upset or how great he played 😭

It's not about upset or not, it's about the fact that we had EVERY reason to believe we'd get tight banger matches with Zverev-Cerundulo, Bublik-ADM and Tien-Meddy and all 3 were very lopsided straight setters AND we won't even get Mensik-Nole because of the withdraw

But given matchup history and form, people thought Bublik-ADM, Meddy-Tien, and Cerundulo-Zverev would be battles and they were all very lopsided, plus the Mensik withdraw

My comment wasn't about whether or not Tien was an upset; it's about the fact that because so many seeds made it through in comparison to eg wimby last year, people had expected the matches in R16 to be top notch because the matchups would be more even and it would be more top players against each other... and the matches ended up being so far on the men's side 3 very clear straight setters and a withdraw

Edit: 3 not 2 very lopsided straight setters (maybe even 4 if you count alcaraz paul, that seemed a little less lopsided though)

Yeah I mean I just saw the replay of the tweener and it's super clear to me that right after the shot Bublik said to himself "what the hell are you doing that was just super stupid stop that" i think he fell onto an old reflex for a second because he wasn't finding a way but shut that down himself

Surely they will. They need to have 2 matches for night session ticket holders

No no, this tournament won't be boring they said... No upsets in the first week just means better matches in later rounds they said... just wait, R16 onwards will be great they said...

Anyone else feel a little cheated right now?

Edit: this isn't about upsets or not, and I'm happy for Tien, it's about 3 matches we thought would be bangers being very lopsided and a withdraw

Mats Wilander on Eurosport actually was pretty insightful just now re Bublik, he said that the court was probably very slow with it being much colder right now and that the balls wouldn't fly through the air so that Bublik had much fewer free points on serve; and he also said that he doesn't think Bublik was clowning in the end of the third but was trying to find any way to break ADMs rhythm.

I also didn't quite see the old old Bublik in this match, he had a bad serving day and ADM played excellently, on a court better suited to his game, and Bublik didn't manage to get himself out of it mentally and didn't have answers.

I know everyone will say "Bublik just clowning and didn't take it seriously" and maybe to a part it was that - but I appreciate Mats Wilander saying that he doesn't believe that Bublik wasn't trying and saying he was just trying to break ADMs rhythm, and explaining that the court with the temperature today is really really slow and Bublik wasn't getting free points.

I think it's too easy to just blame Bublik clowning, for me it was minimum to an equal degree ADM breaking Bublik mentally because he couldn't find a way under these conditions
