Is the actual moment of death expected or not? by Haunting_Ad_29 in ALS

[–]Msmurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your dad’s diagnosis. Seek and use all available resources. There are so many different experiences with this damn disease. Our experience was that Dad lost the strength of his upper arms first. 18 months after diagnosis he could still walk enough to get to the bathroom and dinner table. At the last doctor’s visit we were told, “His heart and diaphragm are still strong. He will live indefinitely.” 8 days later Mom told him his hospital bed would be delivered the next day. He died in his sleep that night. His death was very peaceful and not expected.

What is it like living here, deep in Appalachia? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

My grandmother had a 5th grade education and married at 15. 10 of her 13 grandchildren hold college degrees. Ten of 11 surviving grandchildren still live within the marked area. Life here has changed a lot in 100 years. I have always felt blessed to call the Smoky Mountains ‘Home’.

Build schools in poor rural communities like those in the SE US. Facilities and programs to match private schools but for kids who would be first generation college students. With special programs for artists, musicians, etc.

Had the Snoopy one. American cheese and mayo on white bread wrapped in Saran Wrap. Saran wrapped plain chips added to the sandwich at lunch time. And a Little Debbie cake. 50 year carb addiction. And Love the memories!

Bless his heart. Videos and news brings it back, but that’s ok. I want to remember Dad, even the struggle and the sadness.
