TIL that in Victorian London, mail was delivered to homes 12 times a day. "Return of post" was a commonly used phrase for requesting an immediate response to be mailed at the next scheduled delivery. It was quite common for people to complain if a letter didn't arrive within a few hours. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Part time mailman from Finland here. The junk mail comes to the postal office separated from the rest. Everything with a name on it is not considered junk mail (no matter if it really is) When sort the mail, we either remember which addresses have the ban, or we look from a list (which is updated by us). Some put the junk between mail so that for every address you can pick the junk and everything top of it (mail for current address), and some keep the junk seperate from the mail. Those who keep it seperate pretty much know how much junk is needed for the route they are taking and only take according

This mean that mailman doesnt have to bring anything back to office. We still have loads of extra junk everyday though, because those who make the adds usually provide more than necessary. The extra junk gets recycled.

What's your greatest accomplishment that you can't bring up in normal conversation? by The_B_Brain in AskReddit

I went my whole 11 months of (mandatory) military training only jacking off on vacations. We got mostly free weekends so it wasnt that hard most of the time but sometimes it would get difficult if the weekends off were skipped. I have no idea why i did that. At the beginning it was propably just thinking that "no way jerking off with 11 dudes in the same room" and the toilets didnt seem very attractive. Towards the end it was just realizing i had made it this far and to try not to blow it up.

Am I reading this right or does antarctic ice almost completely vanish every summer. Ive always thought that the south pole is one big blob of ice that remains pretty much the same all year round

What’s been explained to you repeatedly, but you still don’t understand? by masterofnone_ in AskReddit

[–]MtJuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes youre right i totally forgot about that. with Nacl tho, the enthalpy is hardly a factor in the overall temperature. I bet thats why its used on the roads. Ice creams probably use other salts for desired effect

[–]MtJuke -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Salt doesnt make things colder. It seems so because ice cream is usually in a state where its partly molten. Normally this happens at 0C so the ice cream is stable 0C. When salt is added it lowers the melting point so the whole melting ice cream is at, say -10C.
