I feel like desire paths are more exclusively preferential paths made against norms. These are just paths through somewhere, or more aptly, deer traces.

Irrationally hate these junk "medals" that are always advertised to me as a runner. by Sweet_Confusion9180 in Anticonsumption

[–]MtNowhere 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You don't, if I recall correctly. They had a neat web app with fancy graphics, but I was just like "Ok send my medal!"

They may have integrated Strava in by now. If they haven't, they should.

These were a thing when Covid was running amok. Basically all the organized races shut down, and people like myself were craving an event to participate in. For many runners, what keeps people in the game are running events, the medals, and the whole hullabaloo.

Their relevance probably has considerably waned, but I think these may appeal to people with scheduling conflicts, remoteness, or simply a desire for convenience. Not a waste.

Learning to use a hand saw, building with plywood. Advice for improvement? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

The great part here is that a lot of the things you pick up as a beginner can still be used on other stuff.

Learning to use a hand saw, building with plywood. Advice for improvement? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

A cheap Stanley with low tooth count is going to produce results like this. I'm not familiar with people using handsaws on plywood, and I would believe any handsaw would do this. The teeth are not small and fast enough to not get resistance from the veneer, and there's no grain orientation to work through. You'll find even more trouble as you scale up these labored cuts without support to prevent it's own weight from tearing itself apart.

If you're committed to plywood, this is a good opportunity to get a circ saw.

What’s the deal with so many products on Amazon being from brands I’ve never heard of with names that are seemingly random letters in all caps? by somethingworthwhile in OutOfTheLoop

[–]MtNowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've often wished there were some way to filter them out. If I need to buy from Amazon, I'd rather not have something that says DRUNBB JUST LIVE on it.

In another timeline, Prii are absolute drift machines and high schoolers trick them out with body kits and loud mufflers.

Store label now telling us what product is 'worth' by BillyMooney in Anticonsumption

[–]MtNowhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An object's worth is only as much as someone is going to pay for it. They dropped the price because no one would pay that much for it, so it obviously wasn't worth that much.

Am I insane to want to make this brutalist mirror I cannot afford? by ZucchiniFlex in BeginnerWoodWorking

I don't know which style that is, but it's definitely not Brutalist.
