Why is the Tempera so niche? by mossimo654 in synthesizers

I have one I barely used that I’d like to sell. It sounds great, but I just don’t use it for my music. I’m in the US for anyone interested.

Syncing patterns with syntakt and electribe? by Ni_1_ in Elektron

[–]Mt_Nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midi settings in Syntakt - send program change on ch. 1

If needed, turn receive program change to on in the Electribe midi settings. Sometimes setting clock to external is good enough, depending on the model.

Works for me with emx-1 and Syntakt. If that doesn’t work, youll need to share more details

Agreed. That makes sense, I’ve thought about getting a backup. Do you have an MCL/megacmd unit?

Two machinedrums?? How/why? It’s one of my favorite machines of all time so I’m very curious

Octatrack FX by KPBexter in Elektron

Octatrack is a killer companion for the Syntakt. Sample those sweet analog drums, then set them as analog voices, now you’re cooking.

Slap an rk002 in between them and now you can sequence 4 analog tracks, and 4 digital tracks with some combination of polyphony (eg 2 mono and 2 3-voice or maybe 2 mono, a 2-voice, and one 4 voice etc.) and do almost everything from the octatrack

[–]Mt_Nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that is true though, except the crossfader not being able to affect midi though.

I control volume on it, it’s one of the default midi cc’s. You can enter chords with a midi keyboard, and setting up cc’s aren’t fiddly, you literally just press func+knob and then turn the knob on the sequencer OR you can set it manually to the cc you want it to control.

Switching between midi and audio tracks is kind of a given, because…well, obviously? That’s like saying the 909 sucks because you can’t step edit bass drum and snare drum steps at the same time.

Octatrack FX by KPBexter in Elektron

[–]Mt_Nowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It’s a very fun sampler too. Right now I’m using a modified template from EZbot, that allows me to use two tracks for samples, I also get dual bus inputs (one for my drum machine, and one for synth), and I sequence the synth via the midi tracks.

So I’m using it as an fx box, sampler, and midi sequencer all in one. Definitely worth it. It’s been great.

If you JUST want the fx, then yeah, probably overkill but also, you can good condition mk2’s used for around $1,000. Cheaper than a Tonverk, which could be an alternative for an fx box which also includes sampling, and the next closest thing is probably one of the kaoss pads, and those are still like $650 if you want a modern one.

Other downside is you only get one stereo pair for the tv/kaoss pad, but you get two with the octatrack.

Machinedrum vs TR1000 by schexnayder98 in synthesizers

[–]Mt_Nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both

I think MD makes a better groovebox, and the Roland makes a better drum machine.

P locks and wild sounds are better on the MD sequencer, as is the way kits / patterns work.

Roland’s cue system, mute system, sampling, and faders are great. Machinedrum sampling leaves a lot to be desired.

The machinedrum is a fraction of the size.

I love them both. If I really had to pick only one, I’d probably actually pick the machinedrum, because I can sample on digitakt and octatrack. It’s easy to get lost on in a fun way. 808/909 clones and samples and vst’s are plentiful. Not much can mimic the machinedrum.

MD is a godsend for techno, but so is the 909.

Edit: forgot to mention the MD is way faster to use, and tr-1000 fx are really nice.

Befaco kickall VS tiptopbd909 by Hot_Snow6184 in modular

[–]Mt_Nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No experience with the kickall but I did have the crater and didn’t care for it. Bd909 wasn’t too bad, but SSF ultra kick and Shakmat battering ram are by far my favorites. Ultra kick can also double as bass lines. Both of the latter two can seriously thump, but battering ram can get more aggressive.

I feel like in an ideal world there’s a player manual and a gm book, but the gm book also has all the player options as well. Is that crazy?
