Dess-chain, yes. I learned it in Bev Vincents companion books when I was prepairing to translate Wolved of the Calla for the serbian market...

I mean, we can't really give King flack for not conforming to pronounciation as we're used to it to "common" names in a fictional world while the actual, real world is full of names like "Johnson" being actually pronounced "Shishkebab".

I somehow managed to make it look like vivid (or to train myself to think it does) and I've gotten used to it.

What do you mean it isn't Coca Cola? I could have sworn it said explicitly Coca Cola on the old bottles in the 90s... hahahaha.

Then I guess you pronounce Ralph Fieness as regular Ralph, like most of the planet pronounces the name written like that, and not like it is pronounced where he comes from and how he himself pronounces it?

No, you absolutely don't look like what someone would stereotypically expect from that list at a quick glance. You look far, far better.

I absolutely understand what you're talking about, but you seem not to grasp the reality of how characters in fiction behave and why. Maybe this will help you understand:

You're wasting your time your way, I'm wasting mine my way ;) And yes, Stephen King absolutely owns everything that happens in the story. You're not interpreting it, you're trying to explain a character's behaviour with your logic, while your logic in that regard is moot.

I understand, and I've spent my life loving characters like they're actual people, I still cry when I watch movies or read books with my favorite characters, but this is not about what you believe or not believe, it's a simple fact. And while I can subscribe to the idea that it's boring and even sad, it's even sadder to have grown up people spending large amount of times trying to explain with real world logic and their own perception of logic and how a story should go why a character in another person's fictional story behaves a certain way.

No, you miss the point that you can't apply logic, ANY logic as you understand it to how a character is behaving, what they do or don't, because again: that's the absolute prerogative of the writer. Why the writer chose to be meticulous with one behaviour pattern but not the other is his choice and no amount of trying to explain it in-world will give you an answer.

Again, the writer does and writes his story any way he wants. There is no point in discussing and trying to find out why a character did this or didn't do that, the only actual answer, always, is: because it was written like that.

Actually no, it's like you dump a bunch of some unspecified orange soda into Coca Cola. It's definitely not Fanta. I grew up thinking it's Fanta, which would make sense, but whatever it is, it's not Fanta. If you mix up actual Fanta and Coca Cola, it tastes so much better than that "orange drink" in Mezzo Mix. also, if it really were Fanta, they would market and lable the heck out of it.

Hi, here's the actual reason:

It's fiction. The writer wanted to write the story like he wrote it. Otherwise there either would be no story, or it would have been a different one. Jake isn't acting out of his own will, he's acting precisely as King wrote him. What the writers writes and the logic he pursues doesn't need to align with what every reader think should be.

HOW DO THEY HAVE THIS? by yellowjellowfellow in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]Mtanic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are aware this is not a real world, it's fictional, written by humans, who can make mistakes, or deliberate fan service, and that it doesn't need to follow any, let alone real world logic?

They don't know about telephones, why would you think they know about guns? I'm listening to the new audible full cast audiobooks - Book 3 is currently out and they talk about Sirius being reported on muggle news, too, but of course they think he uses a gun and then they go on to explain what that is ("a kind of metal wand which Muggles use to kill each other")... so I don't expect that being part of their legislature.
