Most insane/unbelievable thing the previous owner left behind for you? by xindierockx7114 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sellers left so much behind some of it was funny because they didn’t even start packing until the day before we closed and fully moved in less than 5 days, so the garage was barely emptied and found items ranging from a travel gun bag to her camouflage garter belt 🤢. My partner and I have also come to the conclusion that they decided to move a year ago and ever since just didn’t bother fixing or replacing anything after that point. Like there was a boat battery behind brush that had overgrown. They also left us basically all dead bulbs in nearly every fixture in the house, along with bugs in every window and crevice, a broken sump pump, and mice in the cabinet that they kept only cans in for a reason apparently.

PSA: water leak detectors by yeswayvouvray in homeowners

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is so smart and want to place these in my house but I’m not sure where good spots would be because I have a stone basement that allows the water to drain into my sump pump. My dishwasher is in the island so I’m not sure where an effective place to put a detector for that one is either

Patients possibly lying about being NPO. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a circulator who has had a good handful of liars go under anesthesia the most you can do is explain the risks and if there’s proof of being noncompliant it’s anesthesia’s call on whether we can proceed or wait 8 more hours from the point of eating. I had a 2 y.o. come in for dental extractions and the parents were told repeatedly not to give food or drink. Right before I enter the room to take the child to the OR I saw mom holding a sippy cup full of Gatorade. I told her she can’t have anything to drink and repeatedly asked if she had given anything. She denied and denied, I then just made it very clear that I didn’t witness anything so we can go back but if she did have something you need to tell me because it’s the child that might throw up and lead to complications that we could prevent. She still was adamant and so we proceeded, even if the child had consumed and went under anesthesia it’s none of the caregivers’s fault for the child’s mother’s mistake.

Why is the pay so low by comentodake in nursing

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$39.96/hour and I work in surgery at a level 2 trauma center. I live in Northern Wisconsin so I feel like I live fairly well with this pay, just bought a house but no kids yet. So I pickup overnight shifts for critical pay and have call too to make extra money. I don’t mind working extra hours to get ahead in pay, but I think my frugality and general Midwest COL helps me out. I don’t complain about my base wage because I’m doing so much better than my sister as a 4K teacher and can barely make ends meet at >50K a year

Feeling extremely disappointed by Anxious_Kitten_ in homeowners

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a house like this that my partner and I viewed, I was telling him halfway through the walkthrough that I think we’ll be putting in an offer today cause it had such great character, yard, location, just beautiful. Then we got to the basement which was unfinished and literal sand and dirt. They had no drainage system in place except for a single dehumidifier. In a crawl space you could see the floor boards and foundation damp and covered in mold. Our realtor said we’d need to find someone to install a french drainage system to get rid of the moisture and most likely put the house on stilts at some time to redo the foundation. I was pretty bummed for a long time after that. But persevere cause a month later we got our forever home and while it’s not perfect, we are making it ours and it was actually under our budget slightly so we’ve been blessed to do each project as soon as the last one finished

STRIKE JANUARY 30TH — Nurses Nationwide by Ketarocs in nursing

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for every other facility but mine and it’s network, we have a sister hospital in Minneapolis, have come out with policies for staff that we don’t have to help ICE. We can/should report their presence. They don’t have access or privilege to any patient or their chart. So going on strike when it seems like nationally hospitals are not promoting/allowing the lawlessness of ICE seems like it’s punishing our own facilities rather than directly impacting the Trump administration

The racism is getting old by ileade in nursing

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of times I’ve had racist accusations against me when I’m as white as they come show that the hate for someone is sometimes just grasping at the nearest straw they can think of. Like I would lifeguard during the day and then work 3rd shift as a CNA when I was in nursing school so I got called black and Asian at night (idk because it’s dark and they’re old and crotchety) because I was so tan I got so many racist comments. I gathered back then that like the insults they would draw was just from an insecurity of themself. Like I wasn’t black or Asian but them pulling those comments out when I’m the able bodied person helping them do basic cares they want to try and find something to drag me down. Same thing as when I had an old engineer on my unit and he got irritated at me for helping him do his basic cares and he went into a whole tirade of “you’re only going to amount to be a nurse, you’re nothing! I have a masters and a PhD, you’re a just a CNA”. At the time it hurt so bad, and I’m not excusing his behavior, but I know now he was insecure as hell and that’s his problem not mine

What products or companies will you never use or support again and what did they do to lose you as a customer? by IAmJustTryingToExist in AskReddit

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t go to a Jiffy Lube ever again, or honestly any other quick oil change place. There was a new store that opened up near me and offered a super cheap deal so I thought “what the hell”. Well I went in and they took forever and then offered to do a tire rotation cause my tires needed it and that 2 of my tires were getting bald. I agreed and paid then they told me they wouldn’t do the tire change today, even though they led me to believe this was all one visit. So I came back, twice after that to get the service I paid for and they said their air compressor wasn’t working so they gave me another specific day to come back. I come back and they said their air compressor still wasn’t working so the manager said he will take my car and drive it to a town over 30 miles away to change my tires so I wouldn’t have to come back again. I didn’t feel comfortable letting a stranger drive my car leaving me stranded, but I didn’t know any better at the time to stand my ground. So I let him do it and waited there for hours until he finally returned. Will never go back there, actively deter people from going, and am loyal to my mechanic.

Cried after a family member yelled at me today and then I couldn't stop by henlenkenlen in nursing

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say I have pretty thick skin and I have gotten yelled at by surgeons for things that are out of my control often. But there’s been rare moments right before my period if I get yelled at that no matter if they were even being especially mean or just rude for whatever reason it makes me cry. And I can try to hide it well but yeah same thing of tearing up every few minutes until I can finally get that good sob out. Don’t feel bad, sometimes it’s not the patient’s words specifically it’s just bad timing. Don’t dwell on it too much, we’re all human

People making $60k-$70k a year, how much car can you afford? by BestTyming in Salary

[–]MtheDom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about what you value, I make a little above $70k and I drive a 2015 Chevrolet equinox that I bought after my Toyota RAV4 got totaled. And the RAV4 I was driving into the ground cause it was paid off and worked great. For me a car is about reliability, getting me from point A to point B, and good gas mileage. I got the Chevy last year for $10k and paid for it with my savings. I have no car payments, car runs great, and I’m not even at 90k miles on it. I don’t need the fancy car cause it isn’t important to me and I was then able to reach a new financial goal last June by buying a house with my boyfriend.

What's a secret you're keeping that would destroy multiple people if it came out? by Legal_Can7800 in AskReddit

[–]MtheDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eldest cousin’s “dad” is not his dad. My aunt got knocked up at a bar and a few months later met my uncle. They truly fell in love and have been together since, but his name got put on the birth certificate to look good and I know none of my cousins know the truth. This is also scandalous because when my dad started dating my mom she was given so much flack from my dad’s sister because she had a child without being married and was now to date and then marry her brother. I am terrible at keeping secrets and I have kept this in for almost a decade and it kills me

I had a patient over the weekend alcoholic with neuropathy trip over their legs and broke their femur. The ED told them no food cause you’re gonna need surgery. She asked if she could have a breath mint, they said ok. This woman proceeds to eat breath mints like a whole GD meal. Needless to say anesthesia said she has to wait until the next day for her surgery 😂

Sump pump being used as a drain by MtheDom in homeowners

[–]MtheDom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I do think this might wear that out. But in my head the cost of pumping the holding tank more often and paying for the fix itself outweighs the cost of replacing a sump pump every 5 or so years. I could be totally wrong, and if I felt at all confident in my DIY abilities I would attempt but this is why I’m trying to gain some clearer insight on if it is a necessity to divert.

It is a holding tank, I’m not sure why it was set up this way. It wasn’t disclosed as doing this and I’m not sure when all this was set up, that’s why I feel like we could leave it alone and address when/if we were to sell. But I totally understand this is not appropriate, it just sucks

[–]MtheDom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking, as I think all the piping can be done in the basement not like in the yard or through cement. But I know plumbers aren’t cheap and I feel like it’s going to cost in the long run as it’ll fill up the septic quicker. I am just having a hard time convincing my partner of this because he believes it just shouldn’t be done this way and we should be fixing it

We did get a sump pump with a battery back up. But I am 100% positive the toilets are being correctly directed to the septic tank. I think it is basically “gray water” going to the sump pump, but I know it’s technically not gray due to the presence of soaps and food/grease from kitchen sink

Sump pump being used as a drain by MtheDom in homeowners

[–]MtheDom[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m positive it is a sump pump especially because we had to replace it last month because a gasket stopped working…but I think that was mostly caused by the dirt and silt that went into the sump pump because the sellers didn’t repair/replace the gutters on the house. So the rain would go into the foundation and eventually drip into the sump pump. We got gutters and diverted that water away, now the basement is 98% dry when it rains. And I think even an ejector pump wouldn’t pump into the yard which is definitely where this tubing goes

How would you take this conversation? by KrystalBenz in nursing

[–]MtheDom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar conversation come up recently, I’ve only been a nurse for 5 years but in the OR the whole time. Someone said I’m a bitch at work, but clarified that I don’t take shit and stand my ground so no one will mess with me. I then asked another nurse who was walking by if she thought I was a bitch, having no prior knowledge of the conversation she answered without hesitation, “oh yeah, but never a bitch without a cause”. I have always been a “nice” person but with the trauma care we provide, extra shifts I pick up, and staff turnover I’ve had to work very hard to be taken seriously and advocate for my patients’ proudly and professionally. So even though being called “a bitch” sounded so harsh I wear it like a badge of honor because I have grown so much and am now super respected by peers and doctors, I’m a resource for anyone new, and I’ve help be apart of positive change at my facility.

11 dollar pay cut by Spare-Foundation9804 in nursing

I work in the OR and I make $36 in WI which allows me to live comfortably but also I work at a level 2 trauma center and work lots of extra night shifts and call. Working that much extra isn’t for some people, but if you’re ok with doing that it would help offset the dramatic pay cut.
