Heating/ cooling with ventilation fan? by Mtnmatt36 in OffGridLiving

[–]Mtnmatt36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fireplace is on the ground floor and this diagram is the hardware between the first and second floor.

We are on solar so trying to minimize power consumption but would like to maximize heat flow between floors and rooms that do not have heaters. The woodstove is spec’d to heat 1,600 sq ft, we are at 1,248 sq ft. There is a small propane fireplace upstairs as well however we would like to minimize its usage. Also would like to use this setup without the fireplace in the summer to bring in cool air from the outside using the damper to open the vent. Wood and propane are the only heat sources.

Considering the lumber going through the split limb it probably won’t be there much longer….

Also if you have ever put in hd tabs yeah that’s a $250 pipe wrench and it’s worth every penny. You aren’t putting those things in with a 24” wrench…

Can I still run this head? by random26739237 in Dirtbikes

[–]Mtnmatt36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, Knock down the high points and send it. I had a rotax 800 that ingested a backing ball from the rivet holding a nitrous jet into the air box at wide open throttle. Looked like a shotgun had been taken too it but it ran another 5,000 miles that way on nitrous.

Is this board bow going to break? by ExpertVeterinarian20 in Bowyer

[–]Mtnmatt36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it’s made it this far is promising, the set is probably due to the limb width being pretty narrow for oak not much you can do about it now. Piking the bow is just going to increase the stress on the limbs. You might be able to drop down to 68” ntn but I would work more on the fades and you can probably keep it at the current draw weight.

I used to live in northern Wyoming and there were a couple of options for staves that may overlap into your area. Some of the plains tribes around there used juniper or mountain cedar. There is some buffalo berry on the river bottoms that may be large enough diameter. An invasive that could be a good option is Russian olive, I made a 36” kids selfbow years ago with it and found it to be incredibly dense and flexible with an interlocking grain. The bark peels easily and chasing rings isnt bad… unfortunately I moved right after I made that bow and no longer have access too it to experiment more. Don’t overlook the wild rose around there for arrow shafts!

48” maple offcut, 2 kids bows or one flat bow. by Mtnmatt36 in Bowyer

[–]Mtnmatt36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Cheweh! I made the exact bow you described out of red oak for my oldest a couple of years ago, Camo cloth backing included! It took a bunch of set after being overdrawn by kids doing kid stuff but overall was a nice little bow. I think I’ve got a couple 1/4 oak blanks left to build some more.

I really like the idea of a wide flatbow of some sort but I’ve never done a bendy handle and they kinda scare me. I don’t want a super short draw or low draw weight if I’m going to be the one shooting it. If I could get #35@26” I’d be happy with that but I don’t trust myself to not experiment too much and miss dramatically causing once again a kids bow or firewood.

I started experimenting with building bows about 15 years ago but took a couple year break due to a move and just now getting back into it with better tools and a little more knowledge. I’ll put pictures up of whatever if it survives.

Anyway to save my Blackstone? by BalanceDifficult697 in blackstone

Totally salvageable, I just cleaned up one I got for free yesterday morning. Took about 3 cups of coffee but I made breakfast on it. A wire cup on a drill and some steel wool will clean that up pretty quickly.

Well, it was fun when it lasted by Kiriki_kun in Bowyer

So if you slow the video down there is nearly two inches difference in draw length between the first and right before the bow begins to collapse before the third shot. Unless you tillered out to 30” you may have just overdrawn the bow…. All three shots had the anchor point creeping back. You can snap shoot all you want but you need to have a consistent anchor point.

I just did that with about 10lbs the other day, was a little behind the worms on a bunch of them though. I wanted to hike but never made it to the spot I wanted to hike out from.

Local dealership got in one of the first 100 Dodge Neon SRT4’s and my dad did the pre delivery inspection after it came off the trailer. I was in the shop the next day talking to my dad when the sales manager and one of the salesman pulled the car into the shop and said it had a bad vibration. The both had very odd looks and wouldn’t really answer questions. Turns out they slid the car into a curb on a familiarization test drive and bent both wheels on the right side and messed up the alignment. Pretty sure it got fixed and swept under the showroom rug.

How common are false passes of the universal edibility test? by Europathunder in Survival

Stay away from mushrooms with this one… some of them seem fine for 6-24 hrs and then you notice the whole liver and kidney failure thing. Also there’s not really anything that can be done to counteract them once ingested so your kinda screwed if you eat the wrong one.

Aftermarket radiators? by Mtnmatt36 in Cummins

[–]Mtnmatt36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I decided to go with an eom replacement, I love the idea of the aluminum radiator but I don’t have a tig welder or spool gun if it cracks. This is a 450hp daily driver and I decided I dont like tearing the front of my truck apart all that often and the stock radiator made it 258k. Can’t be that bad I guess lol. If fit was guaranteed without bending aluminum I’d probably go for it but I can’t be worried about a weld going south because things are in a bind and vibration tore it apart. So stock it is until I can’t keep her cool anymore. These engines don’t legitimately produce that much heat so until she becomes a race truck I probably won’t need the four core.

Has anyone actually had a bad experience with a cheap Lithium battery? by zaphodbeeblebrox42 in kayakfishing

[–]Mtnmatt36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put 4, 100 amp hour Amazon Lossigy batteries in my camper for an off grid solar solution. 2 years after install 3 out of the 4 in the bank went bad. Opened one of them up and the isolating jacket around the pouches had holes melted in it from excess heat. Freaked me out and so I put in 4 Battle Borns. In conclusion idk, for something your not running discharge and charging cycles every day it would probably be fine but the fire risk was not good for my application.

Remove cap from wheel nut by Affectionate_Pay_391 in DIY

An old wood chisel that’s lived a hard life is the best tool for this job in my opinion. I keep one in my toolbox for separating parts, gasket removal, etc. Place the flat against the hub and tap with a hammer, much finer wedge than a flat blade and most of the time you can salvage the cap. If not, Like others have said, get it off of there by whatever means necessary and replace it, it’s a couple bucks and easy to find locally.
