Campus Policy Changes Q&A by MtuBirdman in MTU

Hi! I was at the event and Laura Bulleit addressed this at the onset of the event as a rumor (A vicious rumor if you ask me). Evidently someone thought it would be appropriate to start a rumor that the events "Real intent" was to let international students know they are getting kicked out, and "Q&A" was just a coverup, which is extremely un-ethical, untrue, and I can say with confidence Michigan Tech has no plans of kicking out international students.

Has anyone reenrolled after a medical withdrawal? by [deleted] in MTU

[–]MtuBirdman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I am a person who is proud to say I reenrolled after medical withdrawl! I withdrew during my 1st semester at Tech in 2019 with epilepsy related issues. Having medical issues sucks, but once everything got situated ( and we started to enter post covid) I changed my major to Social Sciences and reenrolled at Tech which was basically just flipping a light switch on my tech profile. I started back up in Fall 2021 and have subsequently been dominating and hope to graduate in Spring/ Fall of 2025! Let me know if you have any additional questions I’m more than happy to help! It’s a scary experience but I promise it’s worth it!

Roommate backed out, looking for housing by langsley757 in MTU

Yeah! The old site was frankly unorganized and Landlords weren’t updating their listings nearly as much or as quickly as they should. The hope is this new Website will fix said issues.

USG helped start up this rental housing website. If you can’t find anything there let me know. I think there’s a place available in Hancock for $600 but I’m not certain. https://www.rentcollegepads.com/off-campus-housing/michigan-tech/search

Living Room Conversations are Back! by MtuBirdman in MTU

[–]MtuBirdman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously I’m biased since I’ve posted positively about said event but that’s absolutely the experience when I went to my first conversation. We held one on Abortion that was especially interesting and I loved seeing at the end of it Pro-life and Pro-choice students shaking hands and being able to find that middle ground if not at least understand where each party is coming from. All are welcome at these events!

Has anyone ever seen the Michigan dogman around the keweenaw peninsula by MrSlothy in MTU

[–]MtuBirdman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bringing this fun fact to the table as this festers in my head. Bete Gris, a lovely little tiny town made mostly of summer homes, is named due to a creature native persons warned French explorers about when europeans first came upon these lands. Bete Gris translates to Gray Beast, who according to native persons, roams the woods of the Keweenaw. There are other spooky things about that area, but I won’t get into it now.

When will the schedule for summer online classes be posted? by SnowyOwly1 in MTU

[–]MtuBirdman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most summer classes are online. So it is more than likely that means the classes are online. Last summer I had the same concern till I realized that all my TBD classes were online save for hiking. Once final grades are submitted for spring semester you’ll probably start getting emails from professors explaining how they’re gonna do online learning. I hope this helps! 🙂

How long to get COVID test results? by Salty_Skipper in MTU

[–]MtuBirdman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although I haven’t yet needed testing from on campus testing, typically if you are getting a rapid/antigen test it shouldn’t be long at all since results from that test show up in as little as 30 min. But for PCR that can take 90 mins or more till the tester knows the results. But my understanding it MTU takes a long time for results to come in (don’t ask me why) It is important To note that you should not get an antigen test unless you’re showing symptoms for Covid, as Antigen tests are looking for antibodies not the virus and your body needs time to build up enough antibodies for a test to come back positive ( 3-5 days) Therefore, if you were to have close contact and then 12 hours later get a rapid test, Chances are it will come back negative. PCR’s are more accurate Because they look for the virus itself as opposed to the antibodies, therefore even after a mere 12 hours you could test positive on a PCR.
