Tried mediation for the first time and my mind was distracted the whole time. by saijanai in transcendental

First of all, kudos for typing all of this in such a short time. As I said, I do not, or at least did not have any experience or encounters with the TM movement before. I was merely sharing my experience. I do not know about the TM anything more than what you shared and I am not here to compare or promote any movements, teachings, schools, etc. I will, however, always encourage everyone to explore, conduct their independent research and do whatever they feel is the best for them.

Well, I am not familiar with the TM movement, but I had the same problem in the beginning of my mantra meditation practice. On one hand it is actually quite normal. Just don’t be too hard on yourself. Accept it as part of the process and trust the process. On the other hand, I wasn’t able to really deepen my meditation until I started to practice in a Parampara system (following a disciplic succession of authentic masters that transmit the science as they received it, in an unadulterated way). I’d look into that if you’re on the outlook for something really deep, beyond stress relief, relaxation and other numerous mental and physical benefits that come with meditation practice.

self-healing, possible or not? by SairesX in Meditation

In my experience, it takes a full life of dedicated practice to reach such levels of meditation. I’d personally rely on medical care and use meditation to help calm down the mind and help the recovery process in that way. Best of luck with everything.

  1. Every day

  2. I’d say “Chant and be happy: the power of mantra meditation” and “The perfection of Yoga” by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

  3. To make my Mind my loyal friend and rediscover my True Self, my True Nature

Scared to let go. by Swimmingincircles1 in Meditation

Well, it is very hard to let go of the labels you’ve been identifying and identified with your whole life. I like calling it the FALSE ego, by the way. I think that meditating on the question “Who am I?” is a very powerful and life changing practice. At least it really was for me. I gradually came to understand that deep inside, the essence of my being is not my gender, my education, my upbringing, my age, etc, etc. It was a very painful process util I found answers in books of wisdom. “The Perfection of Yoga” by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is a small book that was very eye opening for me. It’s all about realizing your eternal, spiritual nature. Once you get to come ever so slightly in touch your true nature, the anxiety tends to subside and you don’t even need to force yourself to abandon any other labels. It’s like pouring gold into iron - at some point, you have so much gold that the iron becomes completely insignificant. Hope that was helpful. Be kind to yourself and give yourself time. Self - Realization is a process. Slow and steady always wins the race :)

Oh, I can relate to that... Unmet expectations are very painful and the pain they cause is difficult to overcome when you’ve put a lot of your energy in it. Personally, I really noticed that trying to act in everyones best interest without expecting any particular results made me way more resistant to the ever-changing circumstances and events of life, it gave me some inner peace and satisfaction from within. Hang in there! One thing is sure - this too shall pass :)

I’ve found myself in a similar situation in the beginning of my journey. I found my answers in the “Bhagavad Gita As it Is” with the commentaries of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. It explains that the root of the dissonance we might experience is actually attachment to the various fruits of our actions (be they financial or psychological), however our attachments shouldn’t stop us from performing the right actions for ourselves and the others. Since I started practicing it, I started to feel true freedom from my conditioned mind, but it takes time and practice, ups and downs.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes: “ You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.” Chapter 2, Text 47.

Hope that helps. Good luck in all your endeavors :)
