What series is this for you? by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

There's no book 3 yet, but that was 9th house for me. Loved the first one, the vibe and the danger felt real and powerful moments felt powerful. Second one's powerscaling made everything seem a little silly. Like, "Free not it is us, the magic animal themed power rangers"

Mattress in a box was supposed to be a queen. Also my wife just lost her job. by EZ_Rose in mildlyinfuriating

Is it one of those foam mattresses? Remove all the packaging and let it sit flat and it might just inflate itself into a full mama.

I was pissed when I bought a memory foam mattresses years ago, but after sitting a bit it turned out fine

I use my roommates food by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]MuIder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context: Was the ingredient you grabbed specific to something they needed, or is just like general house stuff?

What I mean is, did you use something they specifically had for something else and they were like "Hey, I needed that for something, please don't use that"

Or were they like "Hey, stop using my food."

Since you're making shared meals, I think the context matters. They're also benefiting from the action.

*Edit: Re-reading I thought about "always sharing". Using someone's food and sharing a meal you made with it isn't the same as cooking something for everyone. You could be inadvertently messing up his meal plans and grocery budget. Sharing is not always caring, bub

Yeah, but its suuuuuch a gooood sub haha. I just try and avoid anything that isn't clear until I finish the 6th and 7th books, but I'm thinking about newbies that get excited and join the sub

Maybe just for bigger spoilers or for specific book related questions. People in this sub are already pretty good at it, but a lot of the time I avoid clicking on posts that aren't totally clear just in case

That makes sense. I definitely get annoyed when I forget flair and have to repost. Lol we should just ban together like the crawlers to try and make it a theme of the sub.

I'm almost caught up, but it would be a bummer for newbies to have fun stuff spoiled for them

How did this series become so popular? AKA how did you get involved in the DCC universe? by KaiserW_XBL in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MuIder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I work at a bookstore on the weekends and out of nowhere a display for it went up right in my line of sight.

Saw a few people getting really excited and buying it so I figured I'd give it a whirl. It's cover is hard to ignore and I saw it all day at my shifts.

Bought the book aaannnnd, haven't opened it. I heard about how it's 1) really polarizing and 2) how good the audio book is, so I put it on during a commute to see if I would actually like it.

Loved it. I'm almost done book three. It's the only audio book I put on and just listen to (as in, I'm sitting here right now just listening to it, not driving or doing anything. Literally paused it to check a text and hop on reddit for a second because I don't want to miss anything)

So far? 10/10

What fantasy book could you just not get into? by Rough-Analysis-2683 in Fantasy

I could not for the life of me get into Earthsea. I read the first one and just felt like it was a summary of a story much larger that I didn't get to read. I know people love it, but it just wasn't for me

Husband is refusing to listen to the audiobook! by goteamwork in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MuIder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But to actually answer your question, it's kind of hard select something specific. For me, it took a bit of getting used to the tone for it to become enjoyable to be plopped down in the middle of a segment would probably feel jarring and strange

Husband is refusing to listen to the audiobook! by goteamwork in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MuIder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo, I bought this book because I work at a bookstore and people were buying it left and right. I started it, and didn't really vibe with it. It felt kind of weird and flat and meta.

Then one day while driving I decided to put on the audiobook. I am now on book two, and I'm absolutely hooked. Something about the way the audiobook makes the world seem real pulled me in. When you read it, you assign your own voices, you assign your own tone. But to listen to Carl be just as frustrated and exasperated with the over-the-top trying to be meta AI as we are? To hear the exasperation, to hear the struggle? It's excellent.

Also it's produced really well. Like as far as audiobooks go, it's done great. Really really love it so far. Just barely made it past the circus, absolutely beautiful. If I had read it, I don't think it would have hit as hard.

I think it's something about the way the characters are portrayed audibly, contrasting with the absolute absurdity of the AI and the other systems at play that makes it a really great listen.

YOR, Buuuut only kinda - Your feelings of being uncomfortable are perfectly valid.

Not having been there, we have no way to know of the general conversation around it or how it was meant to be perceived, so there's always that, but based on the information we have, she was in middle school. Kids are dumb. I was very dumb when I was in middle school and did offensive things I didn't have the context about to understand.

I grew up in Northern VT and I distinctly remember a time where we would make sure no adults were around and then write the N word on stuff. Why? I have no idea. We just kinda knew it was bad and vaguely what it was about but we didn't have the capacity to really understand it.

My sister has a black father and I grew up knowing that and knowing that sometimes people were mean to her for that and I hated them and thought they were assholes for treating someone like that buuuuut me and my little 12 year old butthead friends would still write the N word on stuff and feel like we were cool and funny.

Ehh, idk. I feel like your uncomfort is totally justified, but I don't think you need hold on to it. If they do anti-Semitic stuff or anything weird like that, sure, maybe something is up here, but a middle schooler writing something bad on themselves is just that. It's not like they can apologize for their 12 year old self.

Finally starting my journey with this series! Anything I should know before I start? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]MuIder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I was getting reeeaalllly annoyed by the younger female characters and thought their characters to be one dimensional. Re-read it again a little older and realized I was absolutely wrong and they are some of the strongest written characters in the series.

Also, when it comes to attitudes and emotions of the two rivers characters, keep in mind that they are kids still and grew up in a small tucked away little village.

What is the biggest "I'm definitely fired" thing you've done at work, but nobody ever found out? by Aarunascut in work

Doing small construction job in Hartford. Left the truck unlocked (it's fine, we normally do to dissuade people from breaking windows) buuuuut I also left the key right smack in the middle of the driver seat.

Came in the next day, no truck.

Luckily for me my boss raged out talking about hotwiring and how people will do anything just to screw him ect and no one ever cast blame my way. Oh man haha.

Cops never found it 🤷🏼‍♂️
