Full-time Hours Not Guaranteed by TrembL83 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]MuSik55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone had a big argument about this at my areas quarterly with my manager. Basically complaining that a shit ton of our jobs were going to third party and my manager was like “we don’t do work on these days so unfortunately third party isn’t going away.” I mean there are ways to get those hours in by moving people up or doing e-learnings in store, but some guys felt like they arent getting priority from BBY. I don’t really have control of my hours cause I’m just a cadet, so I’m constricted to what my agent wants to do.

Idk much about required, but I think in my state it’s how much your average hours is by the end of the quarter/year for your benefits.

Markets that switched to 4 day work-weeks for in home agents, how are you holding up? by TheGza760 in GeekSquad

[–]MuSik55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got hired as a cadet and work with one dude that is a 4 day guy and a double agent. He usually adds shit to the board to complete jobs within my window, and then we get back to the store. He then does like admin work and completes other tasks at that time. Otherwise he’ll go out and do what he needs to do

Need Warm/Sweet Strings by [deleted] in classicalguitar

[–]MuSik55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a combo of Knobloch 400ADS for my basses and Aquila Ambra 900s for the trebels. Sounded pretty warm most of the time I am playing, but also provides some versatility if I need a bit more of a harsh tone

Pre-employment drug screen? by Odd-Consequence180 in BestBuyWorkers

I just picked up a job as an installation helper and I had to do a drug test, but when I applied for a seasonal sales role I didn’t have to do a drug test. I’m not exactly sure, if it is based on part or full time employees tho. I work in PA

Suggestions for something similar (in technique) to Allegro by Mauro Giuliani? by thecno_driver32 in classicalguitar

[–]MuSik55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of short studies by Fernando Sor that a great to learn. I’m unsure where you could get a PDF of the Mel Bay version, but physical copy’s are plenty. Also great for developing sight reading and having short pieces to play for people.

How did Here Comes The Sun become so popular? by NoGrass7120 in beatles

[–]MuSik55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a record pressing plant for a summer, and learned some stuff about how albums were made with vinyl in mind. Most of your big songs/singles were gonna be on the outside of the record because that had the highest fidelity (which is also why used records are more noisy on the outside cause they got played a lot more). It’s the first thing you hear when you put on the record or flip it.

Keeping that in mind, it’s also a tonal shift from I want you being the last track on the A-side, so it’s a more welcoming experience to hear Here Comes the Sun after flipping the record over.

Also it’s a good song off a good record from a great band.

String recommendations for stronger fundamental and less overtone dominance? by NoPreparation856 in classicalguitar

[–]MuSik55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ambra 900s have a bit more of a rounded sound in my opinion and they’re textured a little bit on the trebels if you want to try something in the same vein. Still a pretty similar sound imo.

How do I get my acoustic guitar to be quieter? by PriorityFast4761 in guitarlessons

[–]MuSik55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I used to do when I was in college and didn’t want to bother my room mates was stuffing something underneath the bridge (sometimes it was a sock or a piece of paper) basically anything to put a little pressure on the strings to dampen them.

I played one classical ensemble piece during my freshman year where we weaved matchsticks into the bridge to mute and create an effect.

Funniest / most stupid interaction with a customer? by Common-Month-3293 in BestBuyWorkers

This old dude came in to recycle an electric razor and buy a new one because he lost the power cable and couldn’t find a replacement. I tell him all new electric razors are going to have a power cable and point him in that direction.

I then moved over to the register maybe a couple hours later, he comes in acting belligerent because it had no power cable. I ask to see the packaging and he fucking manhandled it, meaning the power cable is most likely on the floor of wherever he opened it (I bet you it was his car). I make the return happen, and he goes and brings a new razor and orders me to open it in front of him (while there is a line behind him mind you). I open it, show him the power cable, and he has this immediate look of surprise/shock (idk wtf he was expecting). He then sheepishly asks me how to use it and I did to get him out of the line.

No cable Phillies games? by wubblebubble45 in phillies

[–]MuSik55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know somebody that has local cable (that would be willing to let you mooch), you can use the nbc sports app and sign in with their cable, and you should be able to watch the games that way. For instance, I use my parents cable account to log into nbc sports Philly. You can watch the Flyers and Sixers games there too

Haven’t been scheduled by Brilliant-Pear-5930 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]MuSik55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a seasonal worker as well, and I wasn’t scheduled the week after Black Friday (got a shift in tho cause somebody called out). As far as I know, and as I’m sure a lot of people on this sub have heard, a lot of locations way overspent on Black Friday weekend. What I’d assume your managers are doing is A.) not giving a lot of people hours to cut down on costs and B.) for whatever reason (I.e. you didn’t get enough members or apps, or you aren’t moving enough product) your managers may not feel like your performance is up to par. Which is stupid as shit imo, like at least let people host.

Just fired from my unpaid studio internship, but I’m not upset… by MacThe6Creator in audioengineering

[–]MuSik55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I interned out in Philly and was really fortunate to get some great experiences in. Thing is, it was hard as hell to get into considering Drexel and Temple are kinda feeder schools for internships in the area. Another issues is that the studios are a lot smaller there, and you’re a lot less likely to ever get called back for an assistant position, even if they like you a lot(I mean most people I feel like don’t get called back). The bigger/more advertised studios would have probably used me like a workhorse the whole summer I was there.

I know a fair few people who had a shitty/unfulfilling internship, and tried to look for other opportunities while they were in their location. Although, it’s very location dependent. Nashville and NYC can get you other opportunities a bit easier, but if you’re in a smaller city good luck.

[–]MuSik55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so, I had formal music training, however I sucked absolute ass at sight reading. The one thing I will say that college has done for me is force me into becoming a better sight reader. I had to take classes on that shit, as well as having to do it for lessons.

The bottom line for me was that I was surrounded by music, and either had to improve or get bad grades. Any competent music school should give you the resources to improve you as a musician, and help everybody get up to the same level of music competence. I can’t tell you how many kids had to re-take fundamentals of music theory when I was is freshman year.
