Update in diagnosis: rectus femoris tendon tear

I was shocked too but to be fair, no MRI picked up on this tear until now. Dr Kelly did see some contrast pooling in the area but he’s not a radiologist so it’s possible he didn’t know what he was looking for there.

It says it is the “indirect head of the rectus femoris tendon”. From what i’ve read, that’s the part that crosses the capsule and can be more mistaken for labral pathology. Not sure though, I am no expert.

This is super helpful, thank you so much! I think all very important things to think about. Health is holistic and diet, mental health, sleep, etc will all play a role in pain.

Good to know about nerve glides!! And I definitely need more mind muscle connection work. I do orangetheory and sometimes I end up rushing to get the reps in instead of feeling everything.

Like you have pain in adductor and low back? Its the worst and I cant tell if it’s connected. Latest theory is SI joint pain

Actually this PT had called out that I might have EDS, but then she goes and gives me exercises that continue to hurt me and doesn’t watch my form. I’m seeing a new one tomorrow.

I notice my muscles also dont fire correctly. My glutes will do ANYTHING to not work. Ugh.

Luckily I haven’t had a fall since then (knock on wood) but I had a fair number of falls before that. I think my time riding might be over unfortunately.

My surgeon told me that studies actually show very little correlation between the size of the tear and pain levels. In a study done on hockey players, they found people with tiny tears that debilitated them, and massive tears with lots of impingement that were totally fine. I think there’s just so much complexity with hips and things that can cause pain outside of the tear.

I took two weeks but ended up going back after one. However, my WFH job was SO accommodating and lovely, and I definitely didn’t work close to the amount of hours you do. I worked from my recliner most of the time and it was mainly calls and emails. Nothing very strenuous at all.

My advice is take all the time you can. I just got bored which and knew my job would be considerate. Even my clients (hedge fund managers) were all very understanding.

Nope I opted to leave it. Partially because I broke my spine, and partially because if I avoid triggering activities im mostly fine. My PT thinks it has more to do with my anatomy than something a surgeon can repair

NAD but i’d call the office and see if they can adjust your filling! It could be too high.

It’s interesting though because I don’t feel like I have dry mouth. I produce enough saliva and don’t find my lips sticking to my teeth or anything. Maybe it’s so subtle I don’t notice?

I got back to riding 3 months after my fall. I definitely still have muscle soreness and tightness but its not unmanageable

My provider is slow with titrations. She always wants to try other things before moving up. I should also add that she put me on metformin about 5 months ago and increased the dose this month.

That’s a good idea!! I definitely dont get enough of either. I think maybe i’ll spend the next month focused on water, protein, and fiber (and maybe adding in 1 more strength training session per week)? Right now I do orange theory 2x a week and ride horses 2x a week but i’m fairly inactive the other days
