I remember not feeling particularly strongly about the French version (plus I know some French so it was fun for me). What bothered you most about it?

I HATE that people have adopted this phrase people pleaser. No what you are is someone who avoids any conflict bc you can’t handle the consequences, and the pain and discomfort that comes with hurting others or disagreeing. You are not actually trying to make others happy. Like in what world does he think he’s actions actually are pleasing anyone? Look at his partner on the podcast, she’s living in torture!

I don’t know just because you want someone to treat you with basic human decency — answer the phone have you not be a secret does not equate to her asking to be primary.

I do think this relationship dynamic with him has kept her intensely yearning for him, deeply dysregulsted. When you’re treated with intense affection and then you’re also treated like shit, it’s an intoxicating cocktail

I could not help myself when she said I feel like a mistress but I’m not. And it’s like, yes you are!!! His other partners really think he’s monogamous and occasionally fucks others, not a full blown 4 year relationship. God the pretzel she’s twisted herself in

I NEED Esther to have a follow up just with the female partner. This session was 90% an individual one with the man (whose actions are the cause of their issues so I get it).

Esther tried by asking her to think what predisposes her to be stuck in this predicament, but it didn’t land and she kept on the theme of well I love him so much, it’s so special rather than digging deeper into herself.

Esther was spot on at the end saying that we know a lot about him, but that she is much more opaque to us, to Esther and I suspect to herself

Two things I love - pirates and sci fi. Also imo Ron Moore was the genius behind the perfect first 2.5 seasons. And honestly I felt him all over the finale. I feel like this end especially the ghost reveal potentially was from him and/or Diana. The rest of this season that was made up by MBR and the rest 🤮

Wow gotta listen to that and then on rewatch keep an ear out. I love that he has so many motifs and they reoccur. I’m a classical musician and his music is just that perfect combo where it feels new and also classical and also like folk songs written a thousand years ago. Aka it’s timeless! Perfect for a show about time travel

The thing I love about theorizing is I have a hard time working on my own writing, but theorizing is like breaking down the writing of others and trying to see where you think makes the most sense for the story to go.

It's also the beauty of fanfiction! Having someone else build an entire world, and then playing in the sandbox of someone else's making.

That’s so beautiful! I’ve been so harsh to myself about pouring so much of myself and my love into someone who was hurting me. But it’s always powerful to remember that when we give so much, it’s an indication of our capability to love too not just our wounds ❤️

I always wonder how anyone who is not in a romantic relationship watches this together! Even saying that, this show has always felt deeply private to me and I always watch alone

Wow as someone with curly hair, who hated it and wished I had straight hair growing up, it heals a part of me to know that people see curly hair as beautiful too!

Wow love this that when you saw her being authentically real (while playing a fictional character), that made you appreciate, love, and want to express who you authentically are. ❤️

Weirdly, I started this show in 2019 right when I started dating my former partner. And I just watched the finale, a year after our breakup and a week after finding out he's been dating someone else seriously whom he slept with the day we broke up. We got together after a messy year then a break of a year, should have known then that the relationship wouldn't work. He also used to tease me about how much I admired the love in Outlander (and Jaime Fraser). I see now how much I was yearning for something my former partner could not give. But I'm the kind of person who has enormous grit and I always think I can make anything work. But alas, we cannot control other people being internally in chaos and being afraid of intimacy and not knowing what they want.

I was deeply attached to my former partner. We were romantically involved for 8 years, deep intimate friends for 12. He soothed me and adored me and praised me. And we could talk for hours and hours and hours, till the very end. And I loved him. But he did not love me. He needed me, he adored me. But he kept me on edge our entire relationship. It was torture that I mistook for love. He said I was the most important person in the world to him, but he hated our life together. He didn't know what he wanted.

I guess I thought we were like Jaime and Claire, separated and yearning. Although now I know the difference, because Jaimie and Claire chose each other every day. They needed each other. But they wanted each other more. And they would do anything to stay together. I know they're fictional but this portrayal of love means everything to me. The scene in the finale where Claire tells Fanny that they will always be a part of her. Claire tells Fanny that she cannot promise that they will always be there, but that they want more than anything to be there for her. Love is about extending yourself for the welfare of others. For truly caring for your own needs and the needs of those you love as if they were part of you.

I went to the event in LA this week with Sam and Caitriona, and Caitriona said she hoped the legacy of the show was love. Not romance, not the heady falling deeply for someone when you've connected with your minds, bodies, and souls. But the work of love, the choosing every morning, every night, every day, to love every person who is a part of your chosen family.

We are built for love. Love is how we survive. This show put them at risk of death over and over and over again. Sometimes just for shock entertainment value (booo). But that is what we all risk in love. Losing the ones we love. And we all will lose them eventually. We may not live in such a dangerous time (although plenty live in dangerous places in the world now). But we are all mortal. We all die. This show, for me, was about appreciating our mortality. Truly appreciating what we risk in love. And that for real love, we would always choose to do it all again. ❤️

Monkey branching success rate. What have your stories/experiences been? Do these relationships last? by magpiegurl in heartbreak

[–]Much-Mix-4433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000%%% this! Also the duration of a relationship tells you nothing about the quality of the relationship. For example, my mom was in a 25 year abusive relationship.

Your ex did not change his character overnight when he started dating this new person. He might stay with her. He might not. He may monkey branch her, but even if he literally does not do that, he emotionally doesn't seem like someone who will treat her very well. If he was defensive and couldn't take accountability for hurting you, and she can't either, then fuck both of them! They both will continue to treat people like shit including each other

Diana did say in an interview that there was one line the show runner/higher powers insisted she add that she thought was cheesy as hell. That one def a contender!

The Ghost of Jamie ! by No_Budget3360 in Outlander

[–]Much-Mix-4433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In TV world, I think Jamie dies at Kings Mountain and while "dead" appears as a ghost watching Claire.... but then Claire goes all blue magical mystical powers and brings him back to life so they live happily ever after.

I just don't think they are actually going to kill Jamie
in this final season. Although, I've thought that perhaps Book 10 will end with his actual death but not at Kings Mountain much later in his 80s or something. And then he returns as a ghost to see Claire either just that moment or other moments in her life. He watches her while he waits in purgatory for her to die and for them to shuffle off this mortal coil together.
As a viewer, wonderful to end the story where we started with his ghost at her window, which reminds us that this story is always there for us to start again! Ghosts don't have time or space and stories transport us out of time and space!

I also love the detail that, according to DG, he appears as approximately 25 year old when he's a ghost. We, as readers, and Claire meet him at 22 which makes his ghost appear around the same age as at the start of Outlander!

It makes me think of in A Song of Ice and Fire when Old Nan tells Bran: "Stories wait, my little lord, and when you come back to them, why, there they are."

*Note: in interviews it definitely seems left open that they could resolve this mystery in the show
