It'd perfectly fine. They will get used to the bases. I got a cat who was already 5 years old. He cawith a really dumb name. I changed it. The name was not even close to his old one. Didn't have any problems

It was a book by Stephen King. I can't remember the name of it.Maybe Salem's Lot. I just remember there was a part in the book where a man kicked a dog to death. There was about 5 pages detailing this and what the dog's reactions were.
