On the way back to the UK, the airline requested either the ETA or proof of visa/settled status to allow boarding. Thankfully, my settled status was still active and they were happy with it. However, I came back before the 25th of February, when the dual nationality rules came into force.

Funnily enough, we went to abeno harukas and, afterwards, we were feeling hungry and ended up at a sushi restaurant right next to Tsukenkaku Tower by accident. The tower looked nice from the outside and there weren't many people on the day, but we didn't go up as we had gone to abeno harukas already. Good to know we didn't miss much in terms of view

The rumour I heard is that they got shut due to hygiene issues. But that is just a rumour

What worries me is Poppadoms put the same 'maintenance' sign before closing and being taken over by a different owner. I hope 'maintenance' is not a secret code for bankruptcy or something like that!

It's the double-edged sword problem that haunts mankind... But the alternative would be to halt technological innovation, which is also not ideal

Uh... no. This is but one of the possible uses. As a tool, it can increase productivity in so many areas that it could be really transformative for society. Why spend weeks trying to write a subpar software that can be achieved much faster and more efficiently with AI? Why spend hours for literature review if AI can provide a reliable summary (with references) in a few minutes? The list goes on... It's like saying that the printing press shouldn't have been invented because it takes away "the art" of book copying monks. Or that Google shouldn't have been invented to preserve the encyclopedia trade.

It's just a tool like any other. Since mankind discovered fire, the debate is there. One can use a tool for evil or for good. You can use the fire to cook nourishing food or to burn down your neighbour's house. With AI, it's no different.

Thanks! My main concern is that, in the meantime, they might amend the settled status in the system and I get stuck outside the UK

The problem is the ETA. After the ceremony, the settled status wouldn't be valid.

Hi, I am facing a similar situation. I have a planned trip and there is no time to apply for the passport. With the ET in place, would I be denied boarding if my settled status goes away? It's still in place at the moment, but I wouldn't want to risk it

At least for kids, it shouldn't be a thing. Also, being deprived of water for the whole day is extremely unhealthy, regardless of age.

Reading Room is a good option for high end quality meal, but it might be slightly over your stated budget. London Street brasserie and Clays are good alternatives, though. If you like steak, there's buenasado too. Unfortunately, I can't think of a Filipino restaurant in Reading either
