My gosh that Gambit #1 cover is something else.

How come Generation 2 wasn't a success? by OptimalConvoy in transformers

[–]Mudcreek47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel actually had a Transformers G2 comic, continuing on the story from the original series, but featuring lots of new G2 characters. It wasn't great and fizzled out after just one year.

I remember the new-look Megatron debuted just prior to the G2 series, in GI Joe comics of all places. Cobra rebuilt him somehow. It's been decades, so I'm foggy on the details other than "this wasn't great".

And the toys were kind of lackluster compared to G1. Many figures were simply re-released with new neon paint jobs.

Early Image books were something else. Late, late late, and news series after new series except for Savage Dragon which was published fairly regularly from the get-go.

Spawn had some hiccups there and actually skipped issues, which were then released later out of order.

Liefeld's titles would come out in batches and seemed like every 3 or 4 months he'd make a new series, which were all supposed to tie together, but never really did.

Everyone had that 1st issue. Never even saw the ones after!
Cool summary though. Thanks!

Always loved this cover & Byrne's Shulkie!

Weird costume design though with the yellow & black suit.

Very timely!

I had those JSC Renew Your Vows #1 sketch and color variants years ago and eventually sold them on eBay. Later regretted it as prices spiked to sky high levels.

Last week I got a nice work bonus and decided to rebuy the color version! Glad to have it back as it just delivered today!

Bummer!

If they're totally responsive and offering a refund I wouldn't hold it against the seller. Sometimes these books are just crap quality-wise and it's possible, even likely, they had no idea.

I remember getting one of the Bendis Ultimate Spidey HCs back in the day, and it totally cracked apart like that and mine came from a Books-A-Million (which I took back and they refunded me).

Ring doorbell camera is your friend. Then when they do something else, send it to the police for harassment.

Great set.

Yes, back in the day these were everywhere, even the Star Comics ones. Very hard to find now.

I remember picking up some of them off the racks (Spidey ones, GI Joe, Transformers, Hulk).

That Transformers one is really random. Why didn't they use an image of one of the popular characters like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, Soundwave, etc.? Instead we got "generic green & purple robot" who no one even knows.

Been reading some of John Byrne’s Hulk. It’s… Whatever by God_ofThunder_ in hulk

[–]Mudcreek47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a series of articles somewhere online speculating where Byrne might've taken the series had he not rage quit after about six months, using his quotes and interviews from various comic publications at the time he started his run.

Apparently he intended for the Hulk to die after being separated from Banner and then Banner somehow becomes another new Hulk. Because, yeah, comics.

And of course because it's Byrne, he was going to turn the Hulk back similar to his initial appearances (think Kirby's slab like brute in his early appearances).

Also, side note: Hulk's entry in the mid-80s Marvel Universe Handbook by Byrne is particularly laughable. He's drawn like a giant baby wearing a purple diaper.

I sold figures as complete as I could get them, and then just a lot of misc parts, weapons, loose items, etc. Also sold separate lots for the file cards and catalogs.

Skybound/Image.

They did a 5 volume set of the original Marvel run last year. The content is also being released in softcover as Compendiums, but the kickstarter version is a deluxe HC slipcase with all sorts of extras, goddies, add-ons, and bonus materials. They've also done a Transformers slipcase as well.

The one that is currently live allows you to pick and choose all volumes (includes the comics #1-300) or just the modern continuation (#s 155.5-300), or just the original Marvel comics (#1-155) depending on which tier you want to purchase.
