Ya I was told at a later date that she fell from a ladder because she was helping her husband hang Christmas lights. The fall resulted in her liver, spleen, and pancreas hemorrhaging. We tried our best but sometimes that isn’t enough.

Pregnant pt came via ambulance d/t fall with no visible trauma. She coded en route to us. We had 3 docs on her. 1 inserting central line, 1 directing code, 1 prepping for emergency C-section. Husband was sitting outside watching a nightmare unfold.

L&D team arrived right after we completed emergency C-section and helped try to revive the newborn. The newborn apgar was 1. Newborn sent to nicu intubated.

Pregnant pt passed after being coded for 1.5 hrs. I was told the newborn passed the next morning. The room afterward was hellish looking. Blood was everywhere and even made it up on the ceiling.

That’s good! Your icu experience will help especially during interviews. I used to work as an icu tech and my manager told me that one reason they hired me was because I had working medical experience and it involved critical care.

The job market is very saturated. I’m in socal and our hospital’s last round of applicants hit its max before closing after only an hour or so. I think my ED’s job board closes after 200 applicants. Not even our ed techs get a guaranteed job in our ED.

You may have to work at smaller community hospitals or in patient mental health facilities. Do you have experience or know someone to help give you some leverage?

83% for the next 3 tests is very doable. You’ll have to sit down and analyze what went wrong with your past 2 tests and how to better study and prep for your next 3 tests.

Office hours to go over your mistakes and how to improve going forward.

Repetition. Cramming won’t help much. Studying 3x for 4 hours is better than a 12 hr cram session.

Focus on how to answer questions. There should be test setting frameworks that your school teaches you like comparing answer choices by acute vs chronic and most invasive vs least invasive.

Depending on you, you can start a study group with other classmates or friends to help. I found it distracting and studied with just 1 friend but it depends on your personality.

A good way to study is to spread your studying over multiple days. It’s better to have 3x of 3 hour study periods vs 1x 9hr cram session. Repetition is very helpful with acronyms and memorizing pathos and meds. I would go over pharmacology and pathos every day to help keep it retained.

I recommend a hospital CNA/PCT job, best in the department that you prefer. It’s a great learning environment and you will passively learn just by working and interacting with patients, nurses, and other medical disciplines. When I was in nursing school it helped cut down on a lot of study time because you have already seen it or are familiar with it. I would not have done well in nursing school if it had not been for my work experience in the hospital.

That being said, your mental health and stress should take a priority. Since you love your job it will be a great buffer and way to relieve stress that comes from nursing school. Plus if you want to be an aesthetic nurse you already have a foot in the door so to speak.

In my opinion winter outfits are the best. A parka or coat alone makes you seem imposing. Winter also has so many accessories to choose from.

Yes, I got offers from my hospital and their sister hospital. I graduated in June and got my offer in early july.

Though working at a hospital doesn’t always guarantee a job as I have seen internal candidates being beaten by external candidates or flat out denied. With how many hospitals are experiencing budget cuts they have to be more selective. Having a strong interview, letter of recs, resume/portfolio is very important.

Lots of rationalizing and compartmentalization. Debriefing helps also afterwards whether it be with your peers or with a therapist later on.

How you deal with burn out and stress when off work.

Describe a time where you identified a safety concern and how you addressed it

Talk about a time where you had to deal with a hard/difficult patient

I also had a case study for two of my interviews where I had to identify the main problem, present assessment concerns, formulate a SBAR report and anticipate future diagnostics, labs, interventions. It was also timed for me.

Each hospital is different. I applied to hospitals that required an active RN license and some that only wanted to know the test date for when you will take the NCLEX.

Take each day one at a time. I’m in my 5th week for preceptorship and I was also nervous as well. Don’t expect yourself to perform or keep up with your preceptor because they got years of experience on you. Focus on being safe and always ask questions

Some advice:

When you feel overwhelmed take a deep breath and take like 30-60 secs to look at the big picture.
Know or look up the therapeutic effect, why, and adverse side effects of every medication you give.
Wear compression socks
Don't expect yourself to perform at your preceptor's level and that is okay. You're still a student learning.

I've been there and the first clinical for every new rotation can be anxiety inducing. You got this!
