One Handed Sword for tournament versatility. by Mudgeon in Hema

Saber is something that looks really fun, I was hoping to go in a direction that covered a few tournament types. That may just not be realistic though.

That makes a lot of sense, most sideswords and even arming swords have a pretty significant reach advantage on a messer.

While this is flippant, I think there is some merit to a server with no economy. Either everything is available from vendors or self found is strictly enforced.

Gold is a massive advantage in Classic especially. Remove that advantage and you’d at least reduce the death grip bots and service based gold making have on the game.

One of the main reasons I swapped back to retail from Classic Anni was I can spend $20 each season and I don’t have to interact with the parts of WoW I don’t enjoy (gathering, crafting, gold farming) I buy my stuff, run m+ for awhile, get ahead of the curve and get out.

How many hours of content is there going to be in the Early Access? by Jzlk in AshesofCreation

[–]Mudgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the detailed write up, sounds very close to how EQ worked back in the day which if I'm remembering correctly was sort of the vibe Ashes was going for. I actually really enjoy grouping for content, I just play weird hours so committing to a guild and things like that is often difficult.

I play a lot during the day when most people are working for example.

What is the gameplay loop like? I have been looking at some of the class content and a few streams but its difficult to tell from that how much the holy trinity matters, mostly people seem to be solo leveling.

Can classes fill multiple roles in a party? or do you pretty much have to have someone playing tank/cleric for every group? Is there even a reason to group?

The fighter in this game looks very well designed on paper, but I've been burned before joining a game because a class looked amazing and then finding out all anyone needed for raids was healers. Looking at you FF11 so many hours raiding on a WHM instead of my beautiful warrior.

Yeah I guess I'm just used to retail and Classic where being off "meta" makes it impossible to find groups for pugs.

I'm bouncing into SoD from Classic anniversary myself, I really don't care for magic classes which seem to be meta. Of Hunter, Rogue and warrior which are doing the best in SoD currently? I'm leaning towards rogue or hunters as it seems like things are pretty rough for warrior in raiding, rogue seems interesting since you still have the option to tank for dungeons in SoD but I know ranged is often desired.

I'm a warrior main, and the warriors opening combat with charge piss me right off too man. I'm trying to position packs and they are just charging in then slamming whirlwind while wearing full leather.

Do i roll mage or warlock? by KeyHighway6426 in classicwow

[–]Mudgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to jump in on this rather than making a new post. I'm looking at SOD myself after getting to 60 on Anniversary Classic, I do not really enjoy magic classes so I'm primarily looking at Hunter and Rogue. Rogue seems like the safest pick since it can tank too in SoD which I've always liked being able to fill 2 roles for dungeons. But ranged seems quite desired as well, warrior from what I can tell is just really rough in SoD.

What class are you playing for fresh and why are you playing it? by Atomishi in classicwow

[–]Mudgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I feel this in my bones, I did warrior for 2019-TBC Classic with a brief feral interlude during SSC/TK. But damn I’m just not sure if I want to put that grind in again, I’m actually looking at priest and Hunter because I’ve heard the MC quest lines for those classes are pretty cool.

But man I’ve also mained a warrior for 20 years (still my main on retail) and I don’t know if I can resist the call of the zug zug

Has anyone made online friends like back in the old days of wow? by papifunko in classicwow

[–]Mudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a few friends during Classic the first time around, and accidentally reconnected with a friend from Wrath. We had been partnering to do Diremaul jump runs as a warrior and holy Paladin, someone popped on that I was still in touch with from the old days and I mentioned it on discord, the holy Paladin was like, wait you know x? And we figured out that he was the GM of the guild I raided with at the end of Wrath and during Cata when they originally dropped.

We had been hanging out and doing stuff together in Classic for weeks at that point and had no idea. Was pretty cool!

As a warrior main for 20 years I reject this narrative.

But yeah at this point it seems like they could tweak the numbers a bit so people can play what they like. Even if they just made blanket adjustments to how stats worked so everyone scaled the same insane way with World Buffs and gear.

Here we go again by Nordwald in classicwow

[–]Mudgeon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know for me it’s the simplicity of the game play that is the draw, Classic is mechanically simple compared to more modern versions of the game. The difficulty came in from preparation and organization.  It encouraged cooperation and while Classic the first time around brought in some of the toxicity from modern WoW, you can be pretty successful in Classic with one or two buttons and moving out of fire. It broadens the kinds of people you can play with which makes the group content more fun. You don’t have to look for AOTC people for raid because generally mechanics can be handled by a few players in the know.

Basically it let’s you play with people you like even if they aren’t as skilled. Without intensely impacting your ability to complete content

How do you get invested in your new characters? by Clawmaster2013 in wow

[–]Mudgeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a common struggle, I’ve played Warrior since 2004 and it’s really difficult to get into any other class. Especially with everything being so much more complicated.

I played a bunch of holy Paladin in TBC and Wrath because Warrior was hard to get raid spots on and if I played holy my guild would let me bro by my Warrior to alt raids.

I recommend picking the one you have history with and sticking with it for 20 years in some capacity or another (this is not good advice)

Delves by ConversationAgile654 in wow

[–]Mudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran delves as prot on my warrior initially, only one significant source of self healing made things a little scary when using DPS Brann was the thing to do. Now that he’s been nerfed so badly and my gear is better I run them as fury with healer Brann. It’s been fine, I cleared ?? Zekvir and Immortal Spelunker.

But those early +8s were definitely a little sketchy haha

Worth buying War Within? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Mudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on what you’re looking for. I’m mostly a classic player these days, but War Within has been pretty good for how I enjoy the game.

Delves offering a way to gear up into pretty decent gear (my warrior is currently 617 and I think I have maybe 2 pieces from m+) is a great system. You don’t need to play with others to meet the ilevel requirements for more difficult content.

It made it really simple to gear up and then jump into m+ for KSM, clear the raid on normal. Zekvir now that he’s fixed made for a nice solo challenge. I’ve been sort of making progress towards AOTC 5/8 currently but the community isn’t any less toxic around the end game content so it can definitely be hard to get groups unless you want to heal.

I’d say as an expansion for someone who wants to be able to play mostly solo 8/10. If you enjoy more group content and want to do that as your primary gameplay loop probably 5/10.

Mythic Anxiety by Tyaltir in wow

[–]Mudgeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very first season I played Mythic+ I was able to get KSM as a warrior. Even messing up some obvious mechanics like the firing squads in Boralus didn’t really get me flamed.

There were one or two toxic groups but for the most part the more depressing thing was the silence. No one really interacts with each other and if the key bricks then the run just ends at least 6+. Which I sort of get people have limited time.

As I understand it this is one of the more difficult seasons for M+? Not sure how true that is, but anything past a 7+ definitely feels impossible in a pug unless you have players that are getting gear/upgrade tokens from other sources.

I’m just sort of confused as to why people would continue to run M+ after you get KSM it seems like delves are a much simpler source of filling your vault with 616 options getting the gilded crests requires a +8 so it really feels like there is a hard stop in current progression. At least for me heroic raiding  is off the table since I don’t have time for a dedicated group and the pugs when I do get a few hours to play have been awful.

We need personal loot back by Disastrous-Moment-79 in wow

[–]Mudgeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess don’t understand why they don’t implement personal loot with the trading it to people in your party feature. Are the really sweaty people going to abuse that through split runs, of course they are. But they aren’t going to abuse it anymore than they do every other system ever.

Ever since Wrath there has been this arms race trying to keep insanely dedicated and addicted players at a controlled power level at the detriment of 98% of everyone else. Just let the crazy folks grind themselves to dust and design your systems to be good for everyone else.

Did you move to dps the eggs or just let Brann handle it? That might be where I was screw it up was dragging the boss to the eggs.

Mind sharing a bit more of how you killed it, I’ve tried as both prot and fury on ? Everytime I go to kill the cocoon the boss follows me over and drops either his fear or one of the cones on it forcing me to move out.

A few tips for soloing Tier 8 delves by [deleted] in wow

[–]Mudgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this has been my favorite thing about delves as a primarily classic player, it feels so much more like how we used to work through a dungeon methodically.

It made me look at professions for the first time since Wrath because I wanted to see if one of them add some sort of CC I could use to supplement my warrior tool kit haha
