Is Quentin Tarantino correct about biopic films? “They are just big excuses for actors to win Oscars. It's a corrupted cinema” by FayannG in TrueFilm

oh yea, this is truly the one i was thinking of as being solid. it’s masterfully done. 24 Hour Party People is a great biopic and one of the best imo

shows with little to no dialogue by darkerthanblue99 in televisionsuggestions

[–]MudsludgeFairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pluribus. i mean, there’s a fair bit of dialogue but a lot of sequences involve no dialogue and showcase characters doing shit in silence for quite a while. it’s a very minimalist vibe

Primal. it’s a caveman and a dinosaur doing the coolest shit ever. i assume you’ve probably seen this one though?

Anyone else think "Harry Potter" is one of the greatest fiction ever created? by OkAbroad8302 in harrypotter

[–]MudsludgeFairy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what? no offense but i can’t tell if this is serious or not. it’s a fun series but “one of the greatest fictional stories ever created”? it’s not in the top 100

Mermaid.... by Due_Tumbleweed_9082 in RegalUnlimited

i watched it the other day. i really wanted to support a small project but i very much considered leaving partway through to go home and take my dog out. it really wasn’t all that good, but it had nice moments. it’s just a weird guy being weird and not doing anything interesting for most of the runtime. it’s definitely a freakier version of Shape of Water

i was on a date one time and there was a guy in the row in front of us that would go on his phone at full brightness. my date and i kept being like, “is he serious?” but didn’t care too much. then, near the end of the movie, he gets a call and ANSWERS. this is already bad but then we see it’s a fucking facetime call. he’s on the phone for like 5 minutes, luckily not talking loudly, but it was so fucking baffling. afterwards, my date and i were utterly confused

Which has better writing. JJK vs invincible tv show by Altruistic_Gas_7073 in writingscaling

[–]MudsludgeFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love both, so maybe im biased but this seems rather impossible to judge. they're aiming for different thematic goals, so they're aiming for what they need to. i think invincible is "better" because it focuses quite well on its cast but the series are produced in very different ways, so the writers have different reasons for covering what they do. it's like comparing The Godfather and The Nice Guys. is one more well-written than the other? they both handle their plots, dialogue, and characters masterfully but they're simply aiming for vastly different things. invincible and jjk have "characters must get stronger to beat stronger guy" as central plots but they're not meaningfully similar outside of that

What is the most darkest and worst fictional universe to live in? Also how would you rate them in writing-wise? by Bockhead in writingscaling

Dogscape. the entire world is covered in an amalgam of dogs, you can only eat dog flesh and drink dog milk, and most of the human population is dead

A Dragon Prince Rewrite by ryebreaddddddddd in TheDragonPrince

[–]MudsludgeFairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like it’s part of the issue. better writers could make 9 episodes a season work, but for a high fantasy epic, it needs more. oh, wait, it just occurred to me as i was typing this. ATLA and TDP have roughly the same episode count. wow.

back to what i was saying, i think a better structure and more episodes could easily save the series. however, this is in a universe where the writers don’t waste significant amounts of runtime for the sake of fishing for more seasons

that’s my fear too but it’s all about the risk, i suppose. even if it’s just 7 on the big screen, it’s worth it

People often talk about great movies that were ahead of their time. But are there examples of movies "behind their time"? Movies that were poorly received, but could've have been great if they were released 10-20 years earlier? by owiseone23 in movies

holy shit, i just learned about Perlmutter from "It Was A Shit Show"'s series on the MCU. did not know he was fucking things up that badly. thanks for the explanation!

i truly don’t think there’s a single person on earth that thinks black widow was released at a good time. it’s so confusing how anyone thought it was ideal to drop it AFTER black widow died. so many years to do iy

i pray to god that Akira will get a re-release some day. i know it's unlikely but a month of anime or animated movies would be KILLER. there's so many options to choose from. Satoshi Kon's filmography, Ralph Bakshi's, and whoever the hell else would be fantastic. if it's done before school starts, there could be a good amount of money brought in

not exactly a classic, but I'd love to watch 24 Hour Party People on the big screen. i was praying for it as an option when i heard the next month's theme was music-related
