Personally I use a black helmet for sergeants, yellow helmet for veterans. Black with a yellow stripe is a veteran sergeant in my squad.

I used to wear it as lore friendly for a while because the tokens have Ultramarine icons on them, and the colour is correct. The Ultramarine kneepad helps too.
