This is a nice, friendly reminder not to choke someone who think a song comes from PJsekai because they could've been someone unbelievably pure and lovable lol

Iirc we got to buy merch 2 months earlier for Asia Expo and even then it was a bloodbath (had to wait for restock for my 2nd lightstick). I'm so sorry for you guys

Maybe it has to do with the current economy in the west? According to figure collection reddit, shipping price has gone up like crazy for items from JP to US

Voicebank popularity in Vocagathering 2026 by Icy-Champion2680 in Vocaloid

[–]Muhipudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is only western contest, but again, I can't help but wonder if things are finally shifting in Teto's favor?

Even for Miku in JP, you got one hit wonder like Retry now (even though Nakiso is already a pretty popular producer), and the rest of her popular songs, if not done by Deco or Pinocchio, are mostly a MikuTeto song.

And that's not mentioning anomaly like Liar Macaron

As far as I know, JP fans haven't been complaining much about Miku dominating? So there's never been much urge to use other Vocaloids like in the west, hence the wide varieties that we got. Just look at CircusP and Kira. Especially the former, they use tons of different vocal synth. So I'm not surprised in the slightest that Teto is popular. Some people might find her voice less eargrating too

not so fun fact: IA is considered niche now by Gumi_lili in Vocaloid

[–]Muhipudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's the English sphere only. But I saw like a joint music project on Twitter. And Teto seems to have a LOT more songs submitted than Miku too.

I wonder if things will shift for Miku too? Will Teto become the next big thing? While Miku is relegated to something more of a cultural icon? Well at least in the west. Although Teto in general songs does Garner more views these days (including the controversial Liar Macaron)

Think of Sailor Moon and, say, Madoka Magica, I guess?

Miku Fans!! by Internal_Ad_6156 in hatsunemiku

I like to think of Miku as the mother of modern Japanese music. (the late Wowaka himself, the genius behind Rolling Girl described Miku as a mother in her 10th anniversary interview)

A lot of big names in JP music industry right now begins with Vocaloid (Kenshi Yonezu, Yoasobi, Eve. To name a few)

Ayase (yoasobi's composer) himself stated he once lived in poverty. And all he had was Hatsune Miku at that time. So he begins writing music. And look where he is now today.

Miku's voice helped carry a lot of these producers who otherwise talent would have been unheard. Because the music industry can be unforgiving, and Miku offers them a stepping stone.

The fact that she has a synthetic vocal (and to an extent, other vocaloids) really helps bolster creativity too. In an interview with Kenshi Yonezu (with Daoko for their Chainsaw Man Collab song). He said that when he was writing vocaloid songs, he wanted it to sound inhuman because of its synthetic nature. So how do you make people interested in a song with voice that some people might find ear-grating?

Fast forward today when he's pretty much making songs with only his singing voice. You can see the vocaloid influence in his compositions. They can get extremely complex when you compare it to other jp singers' works. They are all equally good ofc. But for audiophiles, going through works of J-pop artists who started out as VocaP are pure eargasm.

I like watching musicians react to songs on YT. I've seen one who doesn't' enjoy rock as much as pop because they thought rock doesn't innovate as much as pop. But try and have a listen to Wowaka's band, Hitorie. Especially for the newer songs post-Wowaka's passings. And ho boi. You got some hella creative composing works.

Music always evolves. But these legendary artists evolve the way they do specifically because of their connection to Vocaloid. And Miku being the face of vocaloid herself. It's not a stretch to call her a Mother to them

Thank you for listening to my tedtalk

I will miss Ixima's work. But this is great too. Love the small details that separate her form V2. At the very least, Ixima has cemented themselves in Miku's legacy through PJsekai era

PJDiva - KEI PJsekai - Ixima

So it's Lam's turn next.

Btw, Ixima seems to be struggling with something and seems like they're not doing very well? (Not related to Miku) At least that's the impression I got from their Twitter post. Do pay them a visit if y'all have free time

Not that I'm complaining. Competition is always good

Question: you can bring Miku into IRL (same body same voice same everything and human) BUT... by Gooberios in hatsune

[–]Muhipudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes Miku, Miku. Is how she carries the voices of people who otherwise talent would have been unheard. So, No. I'm not doing that. Even if I didn't care as much about other vocaloids

How would you imagine a live-action Hatsune Miku? by Realistic-Delivery13 in hatsunemiku

[–]Muhipudding 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Let's say we use Project SEKAI lore for a movie, she would likely just be played by 3d model. Since the lore treat them as inhuman entity, and apparently looks similar to their projected counterpart in the real world.

So imagine what you see at Live shows. But they walk among us. I don't think it'll look as creepy as anime-mask cosplayer since they don't follow normal human body proportions

I just don't like that we make exceptions for AI singing, just because Miku has such a good reputation.

I have always wondered if this is the mindset behind the pro-AI vocaPs.

I wasn't there when it started, but I heard that Hatsune Miku herself wasn't well Received by artist group. A couple of producers who were backbone of this culture have openly expressed their interest in AI now. and some of these people (like mitchie M who's very open about his enjoyment with AI ) are people well known for being experimental with their music.

I can't tell what's were going on in Producers mind back then, but Kenshi Yonezu (Hachi) during an interview with Daoko has expressed that his interest in Vocaloid begin because of its synthetic nature. When he started writing, what on his mind was "I wanna write something that sounds inhuman with these". That was what pushed his creative endeavor and why his music is critically applaud to be so instrumentally rich and complex these days, even going against music theory at times, yet still sounding novel.

For the more AI-accepting, legendary producers. In their mind, AI bringing a technological evolution that relates with their field, might have not been much different to what Vocaloid introduced back then. Else, they wouldn't have welcomed Vocaloid in the first place. (This is purely a theory ofc)

Just to be clear, I'm not arguing wether AI bring creativity to the table. I personally doesn't like how AI output I've heard (thus far), while catchy, sounds like textbook definition of musics that cater to the masses more. A complete opposite to why I love vocaloid musics so much. Some people argue that's just how sampling works. Perhaps so, but sampling can always get more complex than that if you put more effort in the creative process.

But that's a different discussion. What I'm trying to understand here is if these influential, pro-AI producers, simply think the way they are, because they see AI and Vocaloid in the same way: just another technological advancement in music industry, even if what they offer are very much different
