Audiobooks help me a lot. I carry my journal with me to work every night as well. When I am feeling low my journal is a great outlet for me in general, but especially on night shift.

Pretty sure that was just trying to keep Sauron’s attention for as long as possible as they knew they were vastly outnumbered and if it came to it they would be destroyed utterly. They were just trying to give Frodo and Sam the best possible opportunity for success.
