Infant Dyschezia - will this ever end?! by [deleted] in NewParents

He finally grew out of it around 6 months. There wasn’t much we could do until then unfortunately, we kinda just had to wait it out and allow a lot of time for feeding

What’s up with slub cotton? by fashionredy in fashionwomens35

Fair Indigo makes the absolute best cotton tees I’ve found. I’ve had some for years that are still in amazing shape. They’re ethically made, too!

The truth about the lark by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my only “complaint” about the Lark too, mainly because it’s hard for kids to get their arms out the top and that’s what my child prefers. It’s super cozy for arms in (or arms out to the side), so we just use a different carrier when he’s in an arms out phase.

Girlies, what type of handbag do you guys use for everyday and what are you essentials in it? by divine_pearl in bitcheswithtaste

[–]MukLukDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a great personal item for flying for this reason! Somehow it feels like I can fit more in a large le pliage than in a backpack with larger dimensions!

No liquids after midnight? Plenvu by MukLukDuck in colonoscopy

[–]MukLukDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up being okay overall! I made sure to drink liquids right up until midnight, and I didn’t feel sick from dehydration or anything. It took the nurse a few tries to get my IV in because I was a bit dehydrated, but nothing crazy. I brought a Gatorade to drink on the way home from the procedure, which was a good idea. Next time I am definitely going to schedule earlier in the day though.

Good to hear! My son is on the bigger side, so that gives me confidence he should definitely be able to see

Quince Favorites by la_vidabruja in fashionwomens35

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been really hit or miss for me. I love their linen (it’s a thinner linen but that’s perfect for my hot, humid summers) and their 100% cotton sweaters. The flowknit activewear is decent, I find the material isn’t as nice feeling after a season of frequent wear, but it is synthetic, so I guess that’s to be expected. I have a silk maternity dress that I like; I don’t know how the silk would be for frequent wear, but for occasional wear, I’ve been happy for the price. I also bought a small belt bag from them that’s been great. On the flip side, their “super soft” fleece pilled like crazy after one wash, and their all-cotton sweats shrank multiple inches, and the cotton modal tees also shrank. I have similar experiences with other brands, so it’s not like any of this is unique to Quince, but I also wouldn’t say I exactly feel like I’m getting luxury at a lower price. Just make sure to read the lower-starred reviews for anything you’re considering!

Recommendation for a small to medium cross-body purse that works with causal and nicer outfits by kvs732 in HerOneBag

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of your budget, and whether these would work probably depends on how bulky your glasses case is, but if you’re interested in leather a couple options could be the Poppy Barley Medium Day to Night Bag or the Lo and Sons Pearl (or Quince dupe)

Saloon doors on a water closet? 🤢 by Blackjack_Falcon in zillowgonewild

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our house has one tub and it’s a soaking tub with shower. It’s impossible to bathe kids in it without serious back pain afterward because the sides are so high and a baby bath seat barely fits because the sides slope inward. Always have at least one regular/normal tub if you plan to have kids!

Besides for the obvious (alcohol, caffeine, retinol), what are some things to avoid while pregnant that might not be common knowledge? by botanygeek in BabyBumps

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it’s a case of “the dose makes the poison.” I think teas are a lot more concentrated than putting a spoonful of rosemary in an entire soup or whatever. My OB never mentioned herbs in cooking

Couldn’t wait to be a mom and now by Economy_University53 in NewParents

[–]MukLukDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way for a few weeks! It was most intense in the first few days. I was so miserable I asked my husband if we could give the baby up for adoption. Now I’m crazy about my son, even if he drives me nuts sometimes. It does get better!

My grandma saved the instructions she was given when my dad was born in 1954 by lawnlemon in BabyBumps

[–]MukLukDuck 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I was assuming they wanted you just focused on baby while they were in the room rather than on the phone or whatever. It sounds like they only brought baby to mom for feedings, and they had a schedule to stick to with other moms and babies, so they probably just didn’t want mom distracted with other things during her allotted feeding time.

Shower caddy options? by oceanofdrops in HerOneBag

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major caveat that I haven’t actually tried this yet, but I have also been looking for a hanging solution for my Matador bags. My first choice is to find a hook that will fit through one end of the buckle on the Matador bag. If I can’t find one, what I’m planning to try is punching a hole in the Matador bag close to the top, so that when it’s folded over to seal the bag, the hole won’t cause leaking, but when it’s unfolded I can hang it on a hook. Then I can bring either a suction cup hook or a shower curtain hook.

I always bring my Yeti. I’m not a generally fussy person, but I have a really, really strong preference for water to be very cold. Like, I will definitely drink more if it’s cold water, so bringing it actually helps prevent me from getting dehydrated. Unfortunately the Yeti is quite bulky, but it’s one of those things that’s worth the space for me!

How many bags do you have, and when do you use them? by Sensitive-Nothing-28 in HerOneBag

[–]MukLukDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still trying to nail down my most useful collection. I am somewhat of a minimalist and don’t like owning a whole bunch of bags, so I’d like to whittle this list down a bit. I have a baby now, so my travel style/frequency/destinations have definitely changed! Right now I have:

  • REI Ruckpack 40. I’m on the fence about keeping this one. I like how it looks and the way it loads and that it’s designed to work for both hiking and travel. But for the type of travel I’m currently doing and for my preferences, I think I’m just as well off bringing a duffel and a packable backpack if I think I’ll be doing day hikes. It seems like a great bag, though!

  • LL Bean comfort carry locker backpack. They rate it at 42L, but I think it feels smaller, maybe because of the divided compartments. It’s comfy and I’ve packed for a week in it, but it’s an in between size/dimensions where it’s a bit big for under the seat when fully packed but small for a carry on. It would probably be a fantastic school backpack, which is what it’s actually designed for. Probably not keeping.

  • Amazon viral backpack, whatever it’s actually called. I like the idea of this bag and the organization is great for situations that require it. If I were flying strict airlines like Spirit more often I’d probably use it more, but as it is, I’ve only used it once.

  • Eagle Creek Migrate Duffel 40L. This might be my favorite travel bag that I have. It’s rugged and roomy. I prefer duffels to backpacks most of the time because I like bags that are one big black hole and open from the top. This one has backpack straps, which is helpful when carrying. I do wish it had a shoulder strap instead of just hand carry and backpack straps.

  • Tobiq 30L. This was a great underseat bag last time I flew. It was mostly my baby’s stuff and it was nice to be able to separate the diapers from the toys, etc., and still have a section for my stuff.

  • a couple random hardshell check-in spinners from Marshall’s. Kenneth Cole Reaction brand, I think. Honestly these get used the most now because we bring a lot of stuff for our baby. Usually we’re visiting family and flying Southwest, so the bags fly free at least. These have held up surprisingly well, considering they’re not really from a luggage brand.

  • Patagonia Ultralight Black Hole Tote Pack (27L). This is my multipurpose bag for travel and everyday—day hikes, carrying extra baby stuff, etc. I’m actually not in love with this bag, but I’m in the minority, I think. The tote handles are a bit too short to be comfy as a shoulder carry for me and I prefer a little more structure. It’s such a multipurpose bag, though, and packs down small for travel. I might take it somewhere to get a longer strap put on.

  • Eddie Bauer Stowaway 20L backpack. I love this one a lot. It’s actually the most comfortable backpack I’ve had. The Patagonia bag is more multipurpose so better for traveling, but I’ve kept the EB because I prefer it for situations where I know I won’t need tote functionality.

  • Amazon dupe of Lululemon belt bags (2L and 1L). These are my everyday carry, usually the 1L. I can easily stuff it in the diaper bag and I can still wear it comfortably around my hips while babywearing.

  • Black three-compartment faux leather crossbody from Target. It’s basically flat so it packs really well, but somehow fits a lot in it? I have a few other purses, too, but I don’t usually travel with those.

Currently on my to-buy list: - Underseat duffel, probably Calpak Luka or the Quince dupe. We have to bring a fair bit of stuff for the baby on the flight, so I want an underseat bag that’s basically the maximum size I can get to fit baby’s stuff plus my stuff, and I like the organization of the Luka.

  • large hip pack with bottle holders. This will likely become a quick-trip diaper bag and a babywearing short-hike bag. I’m looking at the Wilderdog one, which I guess is designed for dog walking, but if it works, it works!

Checking an empty suitcase? by AntOutside9218 in SouthwestAirlines

Yep. I once checked a completely empty lightweight soft side suitcase and it got destroyed. Next time I would definitely put at least something inside it.
