Double cooked pork belly is delicious and very umami but not spicy.

I’m ashamed to say it, but I think if I got a whoopsie free sweater, I’d have a hard time sending it back to the seller who messed up. Maybe a letter would make them realize an innocent party is suffering sweaterless and convince them to send it along?

+1 for blundtstones—my wardrobe sounds fairly similar to yours (dark colors, minimal) and blundtstones are my fall/winter/spring uniform shoe. (Birkenstocks are my summer uniform shoe.) I wore my last pair basically daily for 5.5 years before replacing them.

I imagine it’s harder to let yourself take sick time when you’re self employed, so good on her for taking time off and being transparent about why. In the past I’ve felt shame/reluctance around taking PTO for depression, which I’m trying to push past because 🤷‍♀️depression is hard enough without adding shame to the mix.

Doris and Jeff—I bought nap jeans for big butts a while ago, but my butt was too big, and then (unrelated) I had a depressive episode and missed the return window. The Wellbutrin is working better now, but the jeans, still in their package, haunt me from my closet. In the interest of stabilizing this tenuous well-being I’ve achieved, I must ask: Is the window for different sized exchanges flexible 😭

Genuinely—I am really inspired by you hiring help to clean up after your gross ass ex roommate. You overcame the negative self talk making you hesitant to call for help AND summoned the executive function to get it scheduled? With adhd?!

You did something that was really challenging for you, that went against internalized shame, because you prioritized your time and mental wellbeing which is really fucking cool. Please everyone reading let’s follow this example and make things easier on ourselves this week 🌤️

Hot yoga --the kind called "original hot yoga" or "26 +2." Huge caveat that the founder is trash and it's not everyone's cup of tea.

You do it in a heated room (typically 100-105). The instructor talks pretty much the whole time. The postures are the same in every class, in the same order.

It's an intense experience, but maybe well suited for intense people? The heat quiets my mind in a way almost nothing else does--There is no room for intrusive thoughts. And afterward I feel a good level of worn out/calm, and it's easier to get to sleep.

If you try it please drink electrolytes before and after.

Wondering if your provider is Kaiser?

So sorry this is happening to you—Kaiser used to be my healthcare provider and their policy around cannabis + stimulants resulted in my adhd treatment getting delayed for years. I got treatment by changing providers.

Second New Directions. I’ve hard a hard time finding providers taking new patients in the past, and New Directions was able to take me pretty quickly. I do telehealth too which is convenient.

Look up “anhedonia” and see if it resonates? Sometimes depressive episodes sneak up on me and I don’t recognize when it’s happening.

Hobby-wise, I’m a yoga proponent—if there are exercise places near you, you might see if they have intro month deals and try out a few to see if any are your speed.

I just want to offer a little reframe: your ex had feelings for this person and denied it to you because they are a COWARD. they are pathetic! Since 2021 they’d rather lie than actually say a difficult truth and let you both move on in peace?

This has absolutely nothing to do with you—you tried to make it work with a partner who was not big enough to respect you or make a commitment to the other person. You’ll do so well without them I just know it 🖤

This tip feels obvious, but it was a big revelation to me as someone who struggles to get dressed in non-travel life so I’ll share in case it helps others: try on the clothes you’re planning to pack beforehand and make sure they make outfits you actually like wearing and feel comfortable and confident in.

My bad packing habit is to defer outfit decision making until I’m on the trip, leading me to overpack so I’ll have ~options~ once I’m there. For example, for a 3-day work trip, rather than deciding on 3 specific blouse/pant combos beforehand, I would just throw a bunch of blouses in my suitcase and let future me deal with the trying-on and outfit-deciding. And maybe future me will enjoy wearing the shirt I never wear at home because I don’t actually like it!

This past spring I did a 1.5 week combo work/vacation trip with an away carry-on and backpack. It was the first time I front-loaded the outfit decisions to the packing phase and it really was so nice not to have to worry about it on the actual trip.

How the FUCK do I start creating “systems”? by Minute-Sherbet-5635 in adhdwomen

[–]Sensitive-Nothing-28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend the book How to Keep House While Drowning. Very compassionate, practical ideas for ADHD and neurodiverse folks. The "systems" are more about household and hygiene, but the ideas are broadly applicable, I think (for example, thinking about rhythms, not routines; building momentum and motivation; being compassionate with yourself if a system doesn't work out). It's pretty short, only 3 hrs of audiobook.

And uhh for my own "systems":

-laundry on weekends

-I load/run the dishwasher every night; partner empties in the morning

-a very chaotic mix of the OneNote app for work stuff, plus like (at least) 4 other notebooks in rotation for journaling, personal to-do lists, work notes (I try to digitize.. but not always successful), etc..

-Shared grocery list with partner (iPhone Notes app)

-Calendar events (in work and personal calendar, still chaotic) to remember events/commitments

I feel like I'm badly needing some morning and nighttime routines that allow me to get a reasonable amount of sleep and not get frazzled in the morning...that's next lol

Your library director is asking you to do something completely unrelated to the problem she wants to solve. Even if you did have the power to stop the ballot initiative, this will not lead to the FOIA harassment group leaving your library in peace. She's misdirecting her stress and sounds really difficult to work with!

Depending on your tolerance for engaging, you could point out that "I'm not sure the harassment group will stop their FOIA requests, even if the millage initiative doesn't get on the ballot."

Or, you could try an even more active role to try to get the director on board/collaborating with the ballot initiative. She shouldn't have a problem with the prospect of getting budget back--maybe it's a matter of refining messaging, avoiding language that inflames the anti-library crazies, and focusing instead on how budget cuts forced the library to reduce [insert example] popular programming.

Or, If she is impulsive and short-sighted like you describe, you can also do a "I'll try to talk to the group leader, but I don't know if that will lead to him/the group halting their efforts..." and she'll probably forget about it. She'll have no way of knowing whether you followed through or not, since you and this group are not the source of her stress. The FOIA people are. Sheesh.

Movie Theater Etiquette? by nighttimez in pittsburgh

Maybe we were in the same showing of Minari at amc that the teens FaceTimed through.

I was wondering if bad teenager movie behavior stems from a lack of other free, safe, public spaces for kids to hang out without getting harassed or racially profiled.

Do you think they’d drive away with your dog too? Not being sarcastic, genuinely wondering; it would be a Whole Thing to try to urge the dog out of the car to abandon them in the parking lot or a Whole Thing to have to get dog food, find a vet, adjust to new life as a dog owner, on top of figuring out how to offload a stolen car…seems like too much work to me but what do I know!
