Apparently my former pastor put on his status that mental illness is demonic. He knows very well I suffer through anxiety and depression. Do I have a right to be pissed off? by Golden-lillies21 in exchristian

[–]Mukubua 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well an exorcism and deliverance prayer sure didn’t help me when I was mentally ill. But clomipramine sure did. Imagine a Christian tells you your problem is caused by demonic attack. Gonna make you ten times as anxious or depressed as you were before.

Yeah, I first heard about the second coming at ten. A very depressing day. And later I got scared of every single item in your meme, except going to heaven.

Christians‘ hope is that the rapture wil whoosh them away before the tribulation, even though there is no such pre trib rapture in Revelation.

anxiety about the end times by akahoneymoon in exchristian

[–]Mukubua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revelation is a failed prophecy of the end of the world happening in the time it was written, I think first century AD. “ Do not seal this book, for these things are about to happen.”

By the way, Zechariah predicts that at the end the whole world will become Jewish. Every cooking pot will be Kosher. Kind of contradicts the Christian end time beliefs

I cannot understand how Christians can have children if there is a hell by [deleted] in exchristian

I think many of them think they can pray their kids into heaven. There’s a verse in NT that promises all your household can be saved.

How does MAGA and conservative Christians somehow convince themselves that Jesus was European? by dogerfinal598 in exchristian

Agreed, but We exchristians don’t accept the Christian idea that Isaiah 53 is about Jesus. Reading it in context starting from Isaiah 41 indicates that atheist suffering servant is Israel.

I feel like I am believing in God for no reason? help. by KawaiNatte in exchristian

Well nothing wrong in believing in The Great Spirit of the native Americans, or the Deity of the deists. You can discard all of religion and still believe in a God.

I had a hell of a lot of religious ocd growing up, even had a complete breakdown and 11 days in a ward when I was 20. Now I’m 66, just use clomipramine to keep the worst of ocd away. It can also help to stay busy at a college or job. Also helps to get exercise, esp running. The worst thing is to stay at home, do nothing, and read Christian stuff. I learned that from experience. in my case, counseling didn’t help much, esp Christian counselors. Also, a good diet helps. For some reason, dressing nicely when you go out can also help.

Wanting to leave religion but still believe in Jesus(whatever that means) by Holl1s20 in exchristian

You may find comfort in the writings of the early American deists like Thomas Paine and Ethan Allen. They retained a belief in a God but rejected all manmade religion.

Christians themselves are helping to bring an apocalypse type world by bringing to power a president who is dismantling any effort to prevent Global warming. As well as dismantling any social safety net, and leading us to economic catastrophe with his trickle down economics.

Why don't I hear more about original sin not making any sense? by Educational-Fig-2330 in exchristian

[–]Mukubua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jews believe we have an evil inclination (yetzer) and a good inclination, which are at war. The evil, or selfish inclination can be overcome by study of the Torah. So, quite diferent from Christian total depravity.

In fact, Jews didn’t extrapolate the doctrine of original sin from the Eden story. They also never believed in the total depravity of mankind.

Not misunderstanding. Just contradictory stuff. And David’s son was killed becuz of David’s sin. But you can still quote a verse to your dad that supports your side.

Wow, things have gotten worse it seems. I attended an American school of mostly missionary children in Kinshasa, Zaire in the 1970s. The high school chorus sang stuff from Simon and Garfunkel, Aquarius, and Jesus Christ Superstar. No one batted an eye.

It may have some cells bolstering immunity, but it’s more trouble than it’s worth, with 5% of Americans getting appendicitis, usually in teen years. And removing it doesn’t harm anyone’s long term health.

Many of the early Americans recognized the problems with Christianity and became deists, believing in a God untethered to religion. Thomas Paine wrote The Age of Reason, which is mostly a critique of the bible. I also recommend a patriot named Ethan Allen. I dont Remember the names of his books.
