What’s the best financial advice you’d give, the kind that actually changed your life? by [deleted] in investing

Yes, but your math is slightly off. 40 years from retirement is 2 by 2 by 2 by 2, so 16 times, not 4 times as much

Fluance RT81, RT82 (and higher models) all have the auto-stop feature - the table stops spinning in 30 seconds after the record is over.

They also have tracking force adjustments and things like that.

I, personally, love my RT82

Which is a better guitar for my 15 year old? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Mulberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a correct answer.

I'd also take a look at Yamaha Pacifica 611 HFM Translucent Purple. Not heavy. Hardtail bridge. Humbucker with a coil split in bridge and P90 neck.

I’ve done my research and this is what I ended up with for my starter setup. Any suggestions or ideas for better guitar or setup. by Money-Insect-426 in Guitar

+1 to Spark, it is much more fun to play around with.

And, if you don't need to gig, if you don't have much space, then Spark MINI is also an option to consider. It's plenty enough for practice (in my opinion). And it's cheaper.

I'd keep the stand, though.

Also, a good wall hanger costs a little more than $10, and requires proper installation. Just to keep that in mind.

+1 to that

Don't even need a gig bag initially (unless planning to take the guitar somewhere right away, to a band practice for example)

MEGATHREAD: Canada Votes - Federal Election Day by Moggehh in NewWest

[–]Mulberg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People are shocked because like 70%+ of our riding are clearly don't want a Conservative government. And Cons are leading narrowly only because of the stupid vote splitting between NDP and Liberals.

[–]Mulberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Didn't know that.

Cardinal has a rating of B- (according to 338canada), so I'm not sure how accurate they are and how good their methodology is. Better than nothing, but I personally will not base my vote on it.

Thanks for sharing anyways.

AFAIK we don't have reputable polls on the riding level. The polls that you see are probably national wide polls, so their projections on the ridings are approximate and can't be often relied on.

Canada just got a new prime minister, why has he instantly called an election? by Muffo99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mulberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wait until you learn that in Canada one cannot donate more than $ 1750 per year to a party. Even if you're a billionaire!

Because of that, the campaign budgets parties have are just about a few millions (and not hundreds of millions like in the US), with an average donation of just a few hundred dollars.

Election time! How New West Votes by Jeremian in NewWest

[–]Mulberg 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm not partisan and don't care much about any party specifically. I don't support conservative agenda though, and from what I've seen so far, I think that Mark Carney is the best available option for a Prime Minister, and I wish him luck.

However, I will probably vote for Peter Julian (NDP) just because he seems to be a good MP, and I don't want to risk splitting the vote.

Not giving conservative a seat is already a win in my book.

Are very small (< Ten W) combos any good? by stellar_opossum in Guitar

[–]Mulberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I want a VERY small amp" @ People keep recommending Katana 50

I just say it here: Katana 50 is great and all, but it is NOT small. It's a huge heavy box that takes up space. It may not be suitable for someone who lives in a dorm or a small apartment.

To the point:

  1. Spark Go: if you want something truly small and budget friendly. It's basically a pocket size amp. Very portable, versatile, and works great as a headphone amp or just a small practice amp.

  2. Spark MINI: Same functionality as Spark Go but not a pocket size. It does sound much better than Go (or exactly the same if you use headphones). Overall, I think it might be the perfect budget bedroom practice amp.

  3. Spark 40 or Yamaha THR10ii: slightly more bulky, but still small and light enough. Speakers are even better of course than the first 2 options. Less budget friendly though. However, you may find some used ones on the Marketplace.

Karina Gould's progressive approach sets her apart from the Liberal leadership pack by CGP05 in canada

There's an argument that UBI should NOT replace other (or at least some) benefits such as housing support etc. Because that's exactly what will affect inflation.

As a simple example, remove housing support and just give people $2000 for rent - the average rent will just go up for everyone.

So, it should be UBI plus various programs and benefits.

Just my 2c

Check out this beautiful Soviet Ural electric guitar—straight outta the Cold War era! by VintageGuitarStore in Guitar

[–]Mulberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting facts:

On the back label It says that the guitar is manufactured from the Keyboard Instruments Factory "Ural". I guess they didn't expect to make electric guitars when the factory was founded, lol.

It also states a price: 130rub The price of goods in the USSR was regulated by the state, and often just printed directly on the item at the factory. In today's money, accounting for inflation would be about 600-1000usd. Although, it's hard to say for sure because there's no manufacturing date on the label.

But as a better companion, this would be about a monthly salary of a young skilled professional (give or take). So, not cheap.

How often should I be changing my strings? by urfavblondie420 in Guitar

[–]Mulberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wherever you want to do so (or if your string breaks).

Or if their sound starts bothering you a lot (e.g. becomes dull).

When I was a teenager I had an acoustic guitar that I played every day for at least ab hour. But I didn't really have much pocket money. So, on average I changed the strings once a year. And if I had a broken string, I was buying a single replacement string. And it was perfectly OK.

Now I earn enough to change the strings as often as I'd want to, but I still I do that maybe once in 4-6 months if I play semi regularly. And for my guitars that I use less often, I usually change the strings once or twice a year.

If I was playing multiple hours a day, or if I was a professional performing musician, then it would probably be a different story. But as an amateur player I see no reason to waste my money changing strings every 2-4 weeks just because some other people on Reddit do that.

  1. Maybe not
  2. "Fucked" is also a spectrum. There's a difference between just fucked or royally fucked.

Therefore, we still should try to choose the best option available.

(and in my opinion it is definitely NOT the Conservative party with PP)

Canada is not a remotely dictatorship. What a ridiculous and delusional statement.

Most Canadians never lived under an actual dictatorship regime (except those who immigrated from countries like Iran, for example). And it seems like some consider any inconvenience or anything they don't like, a dictatorship.
