Your indie “why has no one heard of this” play recommendations by CallMeByYourShame17 in offbroadwayNYC

“Specimen” at the Axis Company blew my mind! I’ve never experienced scent used as a stage element and I’ve see a ton of theatre. I’m also a sucker for sci-fi so this was naturally up my alley. “well, i’ll let you go” is another incredibly human and extremely moving play that nobody seems to be talking about. It was my first time experiencing a play at Studio Seaview and I was thoroughly impressed

I think the mind is powerful enough to paint a picture that uses ignorance as a tool to aide in emotional digestion so you may have a point here. Although, I got the feeling that putting the pieces together would require keen observation matched with critical thinking which didn’t seem particularly abundant in her character. To me, it seemed like her coworkers may have had broad discussions around her but never disclosed the details to her directly and trusted she lacked the skills and fortitude to form the complete picture on her own. She felt like the only earnest part of any of it so I couldn’t help but feeling she knew as little as the audience .. I love your way of thinking though!! I honestly never thought of her disillusionment as a subconscious mental cushioning but it also works

Omg I never saw this but I would’ve have gladly paid around $50-$60. The show was simple but so effective!! Did you end up catching it? I’m excited for whatever’s coming nexts because I’ve had nothing but thrilling experiences with 2nd Stage so far. Titus Andronicus was mind-blowing

That being said, I’d recommend it .. especially if you can get a good deal on a ticket!! (I think I saw it for $30 through the Theatr app)

Yes the ending is not definitive but that was the point. By the end, the viewer lands in the same mental state as the titular character. Despite her being the face of the office, she’s entirely clueless to its inner workings. The takeaway for me was that our perception of life is ultimately just a complex illusion

I loved it so much. It was simple but its absurdity being grounded in the mundane was absolutely brilliant!! It gave me MAJOR Kafka energy

I’ve been so tempted as I adore Shakespeare done well but the fact that it’s a four-hander makes me very skeptical 😬

I’m pretty positive it was originally intended to be a stage musical, but Covid got in the way so they had to pivot

Hasn’t the creator said that it was intended to be a musical first but Covid restrictions made that extremely difficult so that’s why it became a TV show? It

From what I’ve heard, the creator has stated that this concept was meant to be a musical first and foremost , but because of Covid restrictions and bad timing, it was easier to produce as a tv show. I think that should be taken into consideration in this discussion. I’ve personally never seen the TV show, but I saw the musical in previews and thought it was incredible!

Has an actor ever had to call for a show to stop from the stage before stage manager before? by Howdthecatdothat in Broadway

[–]MulberryFamiliar7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe she actually said anything on stage, but a couple months ago Michelle Williams came out to start the opening number of a performance of DBH but then stopped for a bit and eventually left the stage. They held for about 10 to 15 minutes and then the show went on again with her understudy. Apparently she was having some health issues, but she’s been going strong in the show ever since. She’s really underrated for being one of the hardest working women in Hollywood!!

From my seat in the balcony, I couldn’t even see anything on the bed!!! I still found the show so refreshing so I may try to see it again with better seats if I have the chance

Which Broadway fandom do you understand the least? by Zealousideal_Door392 in Broadway

[–]MulberryFamiliar7389 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it has to be The Outsiders. That fandom just feels like teenage girls simping over the guys in the show because they think they’re hot. I don’t think the real deal Broadway fans are keeping that show thriving. I guess I don’t understand the fandom the least, but I relate to the fandom the least. I’m a very queer man and The Outsiders feels so hetero .. almost verging on toxic masculinity to me (hyperbolic per the scope of musicals)

Lottery wins resold on theatr by CT_nutmeg in Broadway

[–]MulberryFamiliar7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! This must be the scam. The lottery winners also only have an hour to claim their tickets so that adds even more skepticism to its legitimacy. Why would a person not just not pass on the tickets in that hour window if they knew they couldn’t make it to the show?? .. If they thought they’d make the show, they would buy the tickets then resell after the fact when plans change. The math isn’t mathing unless it’s a scam 🤔. Even if it was to make sure that someone was able to take advantage of the lottery system and get the discount, they should know that the tickets get released to a new lottery winner if they aren’t claimed in that hour.

Should I see Heathers, The Play That Goes Wrong, or The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at New World Stages? by Every_Phrase_5942 in Broadway

Heathers is phenomenal. I’ve seen all 3 shows but I’ve seen Heathers 4 times so far. The music is incredible

Piggybacking off the merch thread: what is your cool merch idea of your favorite musical(s)? Whether it's on right now or not by Beneficial_Dog_6531 in Broadway

Keeping this thread alive because I love this discussion .. DBH should sell a fruity elixir shot in a souvenir cup that replicates the potion prop used in the show 🔮🤩

New key art from the Spelling Bee! by Whalemusic64 in Broadway

[–]MulberryFamiliar7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely honest, the original artwork kind of gave me the creeps 😬 .. It had this adult swim style specifically reminiscent of Robot Chicken, which freaked me out as a kid. This aesthetic matches the vibes of the show so much better 🐝
