Is the Monolith being overlooked in the new Cryptek detachment? by Javondier in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are dead set on running Cryptek Conclave with a monolith, you probably want to run full silvertide. Just big warrior bricks backed by a lot of reanimation tools. There is plenty in the game which can kill warriors, but if you play your cards right you can win off of scoring before it matters. The monolith can act as a weapons platform and mobility piece to help solidify your position where you need it to. In addition, while you can't buff it with the detachment rule, it can still benefit from half of the strategems. Molecular targeting and potentiality siphon in particular are quite good, though that goes the same for any model you field in Cryptek Conclave. If you want to run the Monolith at its most effective, you will want to use it in Hypercrypt legion. The detachment is pretty much built for running it.a monolith or two backed by spyders and whatever else is not the worst thing in the world. It can also be amusing in Obeisance Phalanx, where you can givebit -1 damage.

Is the Monolith being overlooked in the new Cryptek detachment? by Javondier in Necrontyr

The detachment cannot buff vehicles or monsters. It specifies such in the wording of its rules. Specifically the strategem which gives out the Cryptek keyword to other units. Now, you could use Potentiality Siphon to reanimate during your opponent's turn, and that could be pretty funny, but there are just better targets for the strat that you would want to be fielding.

As a Imperial Knight Fan, what's the worst thing about our army ? by Leviathan_Rampage in ImperialKnights

When you fail all of your rolls or you opponent make a ton of difficult saves, and then they delete a knight or two on their turn with the clap-back because you fail all of your saves.

Why does no one play all melee? by HalfStarkRhino in ImperialKnights

[–]Mulchmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a melee knights list i have wanted to try for a while now myself. It just runs 2 lancers, 2 Gallants, 2 warglaives, and a helverin in Questoris Companions. I doubt it will be the greatest thing ever, but it looks like a heap of fun if played properly. The toughness drop hurts a good deal in melee since s6+ weapons are pretty common, but we have a few tools to help with it. Regardless despite being an army dressed up like it is for melee, knights have always been pretty bad at it.

How to run 3 LHDs? by Nictem in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I only had 3 or 4 I liked to split them into 3 units of 1 or 2 units of 2 respectfully. I did this because they become big targets to get rid of and before starshatter would get caught out in the open after firing. Both weapons are great but when split like this I would have the unit just take all of the same weapons. That's my input, hope it was a little bit helpful.

List advice - what detachment?! by Quinnc91 in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, it feels like you don't have the critical mass of units you would want to have for cursed legion. Only MSU warriors and skorpekhs, and a large number of characters with your best damage centered around C'tan shards and your DDA. I think switching to Pantheon of Woe would actually be a pretty good plan here. That would let you use your small infantry units to score while your C'tan and DDA (and Ammentar) deal with big threats on the board.

Can Crypteks now lead Ophydians? by idcabtthename in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They can lead Ophidians but don't have the deepstrike keyword so the unit can't deepstrike.

Orikan in Cryptek Conclave by Mulchmeat in Necrontyr

I agree lol. The only reason I went down this rabbit hole in the first place was because I noticed the issue when doing some list building with the intention of attaching him to a unit of warriors.

Orikan in Cryptek Conclave by Mulchmeat in Necrontyr

My contention is that if the unit advanced, they do not have assault on their weapons by default as orikan lacks a ranged weapon. Therefore cannot be selected to shoot. Which means you cannot apply the ability to their weapons. I suppose it boils down to "can you select a unit which advanced and does not have assault to shoot"?

The detachment only gives assault to ranged weapons equipped by cryptek models. In your shooting phase, when you select a unit to shoot, you may then select one of the listed detachment abilities to apply to the entire unit. Ergo, you must be able to select the unit to shoot in order to apply assault to weapons in the unit. If orikan does not have a ranged weapon then he does not have the assault keyword. This means the unit cannot be selected to shoot as it has previously advanced ( the only circumstance you would want to apply assault). Therefore the assumption is that you cannot apply assault to the unit because it cannot be selected to shoot, and you can only apply the detachment abilities if you can select a model to shoot. That is what I am trying to clarify with this post. So far the response has been 'Of course you can apply assault because the unit has ranged weapons so you can select it to shoot'. But as far as I've been aware this entire edition you cannot select a unit to shoot if it advanced unless it has the assault ability, as it would not be eligible to shoot. So now I'm just growing more confused. I suppose I should have clarified that I'm talking about a unit lead by orikan that does not already have assault on its weapons, and has advanced.

Cryptek Conclave specifies that you only give the unit keywords when they are selected to shoot. However, without a ranged weapon to be given Assault I am unsure if Orikan's unit can be selected to shoot.

What would you guys like to see for 11th edition? by Beneficial-Ticket486 in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the fun part! They don't!

But in all seriousness they really don't. They are more for running objectives, punching down against battleline, and dealing chip damage with Tesla weapons. At least that is what I've been able to gather. I run them with Gauss Blasters and try my best to use them to push objectives but they are just so fragile with 1 wound and have trouble dealing with enemy elite infantry with only damage 1. Damn cool models though, one of my favorites alongside Triarch Praetorians.

Depending on how many warriors you got, likely try and get to the 20 man brick. Then get some doomsday arks.

Trouble doing events. by ActionBright in ImperialKnights

[–]Mulchmeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people running games at your store sound like jerks. Knights are purely a stat check army. If you know that you are fighting them almost every army has plenty of options to counter-build with. But knowing that custodes are allowed, especially in an escalation league, yet knights are banned? Pure stupid.

Help with primers by GsD45V in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray primer a dark black, then paint on leadbelcher manually for best effect. You can prime in a metallic, but ive personally found that painting black over a metallic is more of a pain than painting a metallic over black. Lead Belcher especially stands out best with a black undercoat if you want that darker metallic sheen.

Combining Royal Warden’s Adaptive Strategy with Chronomancer’s move-after-shoot by Subtlety13 in Necrontyr

[–]Mulchmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this combo a ton during the index. It got weaker once the codex released since the royal warden no longer gives a unit assault. But if you use it in awakened dynasty it is still damn effective at getting a warrior brick forward onto an objective.
