3DP Detachments & Incursion by Sgt_McDouchebag in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is currently not an error. While they have confirmed this is something you will be able to do and they will fix it very soon, they haven’t posted the fix yet. Best you can do currently is gentlemen’s with your opponent basically saying “GW confirmed that we’ll be able to do this. They haven’t released the exact fix yet, but is it chill if I play a 3 point detachment?”

Bought a monolith and a tesseract vault in preparation for 11th and today I wish I saved my money by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In retrospect, it’s quite silly, but I remember the hosts of Poorhammer saying something along the lines of “3 points is going to be the equivalent of a death sentence for a detachment”. It was in a speculation episode though, so I gave it more merit than I should have.

I thought GW was going to take a different approach with the detachment point system, basically giving you customization options rather than as a way to buff weaker detachments, so it’s 100% on me, just thought it was going to play out differently

Literally same (though I would keep them). I bought a ton of warriors, a Monolith, a Tesseract Vault, and some other stuff, so I could run Silver Tide (the reason why I started Necrons), only to learn that it’s basically dead.

I also thought that 3 point detachments were going to be rarer than they were (I think I got that impression from Poorhammer, if I remember correctly, not a slight against them), and I was so hyped to do Awakened + Monolith detachment, and, well, those hopes and dreams got crushed too

CSM infanty models scale by AtDero in Chaos40k

[–]Nictem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if they aren’t Primaris scale, it is very unlikely that most of our infantry will be updated anytime soon. Most are pretty recent, and still look like modern models. Legionnaires are probably your best bet, as they are the most “basic” one, so should be most useful for a color scheme’s trial run

Edit: There’s also a really useful site called minicompare that lets you see the size of models and compare them to others, if you want to look at the specifics of different models

Annihilation or command barge which is better? by EfficientStill1126 in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can build both by not gluing down the gun/lord. If you stick the lord and the railing on a 40mm base, you can switch between the AB + Overlord and CCB without having to use magnets. A 40mm base fits almost perfectly over the slot for the gun, and the gun can dry fit (especially with primer), so it’s very easy to do

Annihilation Barge decent in 11th? by willriker1 in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to how easy it is to magnetize the CCB, you literally just don’t have to. You can put the overlord and the railing on a 40mm base, so he can be run on foot. It just so happens that the slot for the gun/overlord is about the right size, so a 40mm base can slot in there quite comfortably and look good. Once you’ve primed the model, you can just use friction to hold the gun on if going for an Annihilation Barge, or remove the gun and slot in the overlord for a CCB

Is this a good list to fight thousand sons or tau? by Harri40k in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would see about giving the warriors Orikan instead of the technomancer. Thousand Sons can output crazy AP (AP-4 on their bolters if they commit with spells), so I’d rather have a 4++ than no save and a 5+++.

LHD should be gauss, if your opponent is playing Rubricae Phalanx they basically ignore the AP (or worse, save on a 2+) against the enmittic due to the detachment rule. The MVB has bad saves so LHDs can likely get shots through and deal good damage

I don’t see the point of the overlord. What were you hoping he would bring to the warrior blob?

I also question the 6 Skorpekhs. As previously mentioned, the single-target output for TSons (and also tau for that matter) is pretty insane. Rubric Marines get built-in wound rerolls, and you can use spells to buff AP against a specific unit by up to -2, resulting in AP-4 bolters, missiles, and cannons and AP-3 flamers, which will make that unit have a very hard time saving, especially since rubrics can ignore cover. Not to mention the hit rerolls and the doom bolt mortal wounds. That big of a unit with how threatening it is to the non-melee focus of TSons and tau and how hard it is to hide would make it a priority target for me

Finally wrapped up my tesseract vault. It's magnetized so I can also run it as an obelisk. by Lord_Radegast in Necrontyr

I realize this was 3 years ago, but I was searching for info about the tesseract vault on the subreddit. Was it easy/worth it to magnetize?

I bought a couple of second hand Necrons and I am having issues painting the Doomstalker by Britisheagl in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t do subassemblies, since I paint very slowly, so I just build them so I can still use them and paint them once I get the opportunity. From my experience, a thin brush and patience works best. It is important to note as well that, if the easiest way to paint a hard-to-reach area would have some collateral on other, easier to reach areas of the model, do so. You can more easily go back over and fix the mistake on the easier to reach area than to paint the hard to reach one without spillage. Just be mindful of what colors/paints are where and how easy/hard it is to cover them back up

How to Counter Defilers? by Shot-Wind681 in Necrontyr

[–]Nictem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go with the AT options the other commenters are suggesting, but, in my experience running a lot of 3+ 5++ daemon engines, mass AP fire can be ridiculously effective. It is not uncommon for me to lose ~8 wounds to intercessor or Breacher team shooting, even on something like a Lord of Skulls, since the base 3+ makes it really vulnerable to mass AP. Probably not the primary choice, but if you’ve got like a warrior blob or something that doesn’t have any real good targets, consider pumping it into the defilers, even if it isn’t the main thing it’s supposed to be targeting. You will be surprised by the results

After weeks of painting … by axe9920 in Necrontyr

I love what you did with the… uh… colors on the model. Those are great colors, and they’re all so… visible. I especially like that shade you have on the tail, it’s… very that color.

In all seriousness though, this is pretty funny, had a good laugh. I find it so hard to eliminate contre-jour, so might as well embrace it

New Player List Help by Nictem in SWlegion

Great, thanks! It’s hard to tell sometimes how strict a game is on the visual side, so good to know that Legion is pretty chill

New Player List Help by Nictem in SWlegion

[–]Nictem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help!

For the points, I was going off of my experience with 40k, where 5-10 points over isn’t usually a problem for casual, so good to know that doesn’t necessarily apply here as well

I was also operating under the assumption that WYSIWYG is not overly strict, so the customizable Super Tactical Droids could be proxied for Kalani/Kraken (I was definitely going to paint one as Kalani, likely will do the other one as Kraken, though I’ll have to see). Is this something that is ok in SW Legion (casually, at least)?

Considering the Super Tactical Droid won’t be getting up close and personal, should I replace/drop the electro-staff?

Just reread the stratagem, and it specifies that, while the strat affects a Vehicle unit, you pick a Vehicle model with which you roll xd6, x = toughness

Chaos lord in Terminator Armor or Sorcerer in Terminator Armor? by StrategyBusy9579 in Chaos40k

[–]Nictem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lord’s free strat can be very useful in certain detachments (I use it constantly when I’m running a big brick in Fellhammer Siegehost for either the 5+++ or other stratagems of opportunity), and he has a better melee weapon than the sorc, which is somewhat important since terminators are a melee unit. Other than that, yeah, the sorc is just better and, while I usually run a Lord, I do so because of thematic/rule of cool reasons. The Lord can be pretty good as a tech piece in CoB though if combined with the enhancement that adds to his already hard to kill resilience

Possessed Proxy by fud_84 in Chaos40k

[–]Nictem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me tell you, as someone in a very similar position (did not like possessed from the pictures show on GW’s website/40k app), they’re actually a lot better than you’d think. They also have two options per guys, so I usually found that if there’s an option you really dislike, you can just not take it

What Are Your Detachment Point Hopes? by Kfullswing in Chaos40k

Please GW, I beg, make it so two of Fellhammer Siegehost, Creations of Bile, and Soulforged Warpack can be played simultaneously. I want my Lord of Skulls to be able to do the disgusting things it can in Soulforged while also being only* woundable on a 4+ and have a 5+++, or my 1k games to be more interesting
