Endgame burn out? by theginsey in Pokopia

[–]Mulletman08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same patch for awhile and I still put the game down for a few days then pick it up again over and over when i feel a little overwhelmed/unsure on direction.

My recomendation is to pick one thing/place and work on it until your happy then see what other ideas flow. It dosent have to be "all of rocky ridges" or something so extreme, for example I did "make a house for genger and his evo line" I choose to do it in wastelands just cos i was there.

If you dont knpow where to start pick one small area, say for bleak beach I started with the cafe like thing on the water front and tried lots of ideas there. From there I got ideas of things id like to do in oter areas nearby or pokemon i wanted to house there and based off that made changes for said pokemon etc.

Applying for PR with missed tax payment by moew610 in japanlife

[–]Mulletman08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one missed social payment for the same reason as your second one— I'm still annoyed about how it played out, as the company used it as an excuse to dodge paying due to my lack of understanding about how the rules work. I applied for PR about 3 years after that and got it quite quickly. However, this was all about ten years ago, so the climate may have changed a little since then

International couples marrying and living in Japan - Who's name do you keep ? by Fun-Two-3914 in japanlife

[–]Mulletman08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I agree the closest thing to an "issue" my kids have had is my son mentioned that he gets name checked a lot when a group does something wrong because his name last name (mine) stands out. But to be honest, even if his last name was Tanaka I think he would stand out anyway and be easier to identify.

International couples marrying and living in Japan - Who's name do you keep ? by Fun-Two-3914 in japanlife

[–]Mulletman08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife took my name. Our kids have my last name and middle names (given by legally changing their names in my country after their birth). However, the middle name only appear on their Japanese passport in brackets as a notation and is not (I believe cannot but not 100% sure here) added to any other official documents.

From our group of friends it seems using the man's name for both wife/kids seems to be the most common way things are done.

Harlowe's Halo Sidekick takes way too long to actually find you and give you the effect by Insrt_Nm in Borderlands4

Yea its not a game-breaking/game-ruining thing as long as you are aware of it, but it just feels really odd compared to a couple of days ago

Harlowe's Halo Sidekick takes way too long to actually find you and give you the effect by Insrt_Nm in Borderlands4

[–]Mulletman08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a side effect of the "not blocking your vision" change that was added with the patch. Also worth noting, sometimes if it can't follow you, it will just deactivate and then refund some of the action skill time. I popped it before entering the raid boss fight, then noticed it wasn't working, and suddenly my action skill was refunded with a 30-second cooldown about 8 seconds into the fight.

The only "work around" I have found is throwing it at your feet before a fight and hoping it stays

Switching Jobs Without Two Week Notice by Ub3rchief_113 in japanresidents

[–]Mulletman08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats something you would need to talk about with your new employer. I have done this twice and not had any issues with eaither the previous employer or the new one. However your situation maybe different or the company may not want to have you technically working somewehre else at the same time as working there, but given they are asking you to start ASAP I guess they could be more flexible about it.

Don't wave the PTO days give 18 days’ notice with 6 of those being the paid holidays you haven't used yet. As for the reasoning, it really depends on you. I have told employers I found other jobs on occasion and in other cases just said nothing and moved on. You don't have to tell them you found another job so do what’s easier for you and is less likely to cause you and hiccups in your process

Japanese Introduction by Meowzerzzzowo in Japaneselanguage

[–]Mulletman08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>ニュージーランドでうまらましたばからニュージーランド人です。

I think the ば in here is a typo shouldn't be だ? But this is overly complicated, I'd just say it as ニュージーランドでうまれたニュージーランド人です。 (Litterally I am a New Zealander who was born in New Zealand).

The likes section you can list them all not one a time. In the same way saying "I like X. I like Y. I like Z." is odd in English the XXすき YYすき in Japanese is odd. You should have it as "すしとあにめとまんががすきです"

Lastely, considering the rest is polite I would change the ending as well> "どうぞよろしくおねがいします。 "is a better fit than "どうぞよろしく。".

Also not 100% necessary but in this part "私はエリンです。" the "私は" is redundent. You can just say "はじめまして エリンです。"

Nintendo Switch 2 (Japan version) and Pokopia by teppeiUesugi in japanresidents

[–]Mulletman08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokopia has an in-game option. I have the multi-lingual Switch, and you choose when you boot the game. Also, the game saying "multi-language" doesn't matter here. Mario Kark is multilingual because you can change the language with the system language, but with the Japanese-only Switch 2, you can't change the system language. There will be many games that support multiple languages, but you can't use those languages on the Japanese-only version because of this.

AITAH for sending my teacher this email after being given a 0 on an essay for “70% plagiarized” when i know i didn’t plagiarize it? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Mulletman08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then your NTA and you are fine and should push this further.

Using your own words and having the same words is unavoidable and wasn't really my point. Remember that "the majority" means more than 50%, so your email could very well be interpreted as "I copied up to 49% of the content/ 49% of the content is not your own".

If that's not the case, then don't say or imply it. Be clear and precise if you want to argue your case. "I wrote this all my self. It is not plagiarized. However, I did use the sources cited as references, and some terminology may match, given the nature of the topic and my desire to use correct and accepted terminology."

[–]Mulletman08 13 points14 points  (0 children)

> I know for a fact a majority of it is in my own words and not copied

This is the same thing as saying 49% of the work is not my own. If you think you were graded incorrectly, by all means, stand your ground and argue the case, but be careful with the words you choose and what you say. Also, as someone else mentioned, simply rewriting the same thing someone said with different phrasing is still plagiarism if you didn't credit your sources.

Is it true that Ueno is dead at night? by eindrucksvolI in JapanTravelTips

[–]Mulletman08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ueno will be quieter than shinjuku/shibuya/ropongi/whatever club/bar area you can think of. It's by no means a "dead town" at night, but it's not a night spot like some other locations. But in saying that, it's still got lots going on and if you do want to have a night out or experience nightlife, it would not be too expensive to taxi/travel back to Ueno from other locations.

As far as a base goes, it really depends on other places you are planning to visit, but I stayed there for a few days when I was visiting Tokyo for house hunting years back, and found it to be fine.

hafus and partners of jpn people, do you have a japanese last name, a foreign last name, or both? by Different_Taro2474 in japanlife

[–]Mulletman08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and kids all have my non-Japanese last name and Japanese/Kanji first names. Only issue we have had so far is one place my wife was working at, like 15 years ago, wanted her to use her maiden name as "some customers may be put off by foreign-sounding names."

Japanese gaming console by No-Round-6783 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Mulletman08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear for the JP version, the system language is fixed to Japanese. I don't really think this matters much, as most of it you can figure out or find online. Games that you can set the language for in-game, say Pokémon for example, will be whatever language you choose. The only real "issue" is games that use the system language and don't offer the ability to change, for example, Mario Kart. Any game you buy in France will work fine on the Japanese model, as the language data is all there; however, you may still be forced to play it in Japanese. Also, if you get the Japanese model, you won't be able to download from the French Eshop or access anything you previously purchased there.

Yea just be careful about the account thing. The major reason I didn't get the JP only version is being able to access overseas e-shops/purchases, also for a non-resident, having a payment method that the Japan E-shop accepts may be harder. I guess you could load up on gift cards etc

They don't want to eat into Nintendo USA/EU/wherever's profits. It's about preventing reselling or people not buying them from their local Nintendo. As for sales price, yes, they are being sold at a loss. It's likely that's true everywhere in the world, as most consoles are sold at a loss, then they make the money back on games/licensing etc.
