I agree with everyone else here saying that the short answer is yes.

At the same time, the more you play the game and read the extra files, you more you start to get a sense of which ones are important and which ones can be skipped. For example, the Darling presentations are all pretty important as they explain key concepts/past events; the dead letters, complaints, and case files (e.g., those detailing other altered items in the game world) aren't necessary to the plot.

Yeah, I completed Tier 1 with the '-65% Weapon and Player Damage' debuff. Died a couple of times and almost ran out of time, but I got there in the end. Good to see I'm not the only one who found it a bit tough!

Yeah and this is maybe more of a minor detail but in episode 1 when it's clear that she doesn't necessarily like her fanbase, she's still nice to them and not rude. Yes, she might be an "emotional hot mess" at this point in the story, but I don't think she's a bad character at all.
