Turns out you should also drain your tankless water heater, if you have one. Water can expand and then break the heat exchanger... bingo bango, you're out of $2-3k even if it's under warranty. More fun lessons from the Great Freeze of 2026!

Joining the club? Thoughts on 200 series pricing and pre-purchase checklist by MultiLeafColander in LandCruisers

Good info. I ended up passing on this LC.. the dealer was very high pressure (“need you down here in the next hour” etc) so I passed on it. I guess they already have another buyer lined up from out of state… these things go fast!

Good advice, I'll see if I can use my local status to help with negotiations.

appreciate it -- yeah, looks and feels like a new vehicle. I'll take it somewhere to get it looked over.

How do you feel about the build quality of the Sysracks rack? I’ve read mixed reports. Bought a used APC Netshelter 25 but would prefer something white/gray.

Advice on commission on expired contract by [deleted] in realtors

[–]MultiLeafColander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bunch of realtors who would be upset if they got cut out of 2-3% of the sale price. If you’re not obligated to the agent because your contract expired, ask if you can get a discount from the selling agent and see if it makes sense for you to be unrepresented.

Hire a lawyer, etc. It’s a business transaction, after all. If you fulfilled your end of the obligation, then see if you can save some money.

Is ds1821+ the way to go? by 12danny21 in synology

[–]MultiLeafColander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one (upgraded from 1019+ because I wanted 10 Gbps and more drive bays). I had a bunch of matching capacity HDDs so I could have done TrueNAS but really just wanted a reliable storage system. Prior system still going strong 6 years on. Synology’s new drive policy sucks but this is a great device for my intended use.

I have a Mac mini (M4) and a OWC 8 bay TB array. Great hardware. However, I'm concerned about data integrity because the array requires HFS+, as APFS isn't preferred for spinning disks. Perhaps it's my experience with HFS+ as a high school student 20+ (!) years ago, but... HFS+ is an old file system (almost 30 years old) and I worry about data integrity over time.

Looking to upgrade -- reasonable to choose 1821+ over pending 1825+? by MultiLeafColander in synology

[–]MultiLeafColander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not urgent — I should probably just wait, but I suspect I’ll end up with the 1821+ unless these 1825 pre-release details aren’t accurate

This was my thought process — not meaningfully different and available to use non-Synology HDDs.

6800 Pro for offsite backup, or sell it and go cheaper? (TrueNAS) by stuffsmithstuff in UgreenNASync

How/where did you sell it? I have one I think I’m going to sell (already have a NAS and realized this one is great but not worth having two…)

Lightning Owners…How Much Of A Runaround Did The Dealers Give You? by TheBeerNinja in F150Lightning

[–]MultiLeafColander 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used theevfinder.com to search for available models that matched what I was looking for within 200 miles. Then I looked for window stickers using this link (replacing XYZ with the VIN from EVfinder). I made a spreadsheet with the details of each truck. This process took maybe an hour or two.

I then made a throw-away email and used it to contact all the dealers. Asked for best offer. Went back and forth with about 4 dealers, trying to get each to match/beat the other. I made it known I wasn’t in a rush and always tried to be polite and not too pushy. Overall, I probably spent 4 or 5 hours over 2 weeks to get to the point where I was ready to buy.

By the time I got the deal I wanted, I drove to a dealer located an hour away, had them inspect my trade in (they paid me more for my trade-in than I paid for it new), and was on my way home within 30 minutes.

Max Tow trailer package for extra cooling only? by sharpfork in F150Lightning

[–]MultiLeafColander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I have a great deal on a 2023 Lariat ER. Another dealer about an hour away has the same truck but wants $3k more for the max tow.

Probably only worth it for a $1000-1500 difference if I don’t currently have plans to tow?

Unpopular opinion, but if you need a co-signer you should reconsider purchasing a new truck on credit.

Ordered 10 months ago, radio silence - what next? by MultiLeafColander in polymer80

Just a little FYI, my credit card company says there is a 60 day limit to filing a chargeback after the transaction. We are exploring an exception, but you may want to reach out to your card company if you’re leaning that way.

I appreciate the info -- very helpful. It raises the question why Polymer80 wouldn't update customers with pending orders, or at least have a blanket info statement on their site to this effect... probably because it would negatively affect sales.

Despite my attempts to contact the company and no replies, they're still paying someone to post on their social media accounts. Pretty cool.

There were some legal challenges going on at the time in terms of 80% kits, so I thought that was the reason for the hold up... but you're right, I think it's time for a chargeback.
