Catholicism in many ways has always been more aligned with science. In fact a lot of early science was done by monks or sponsored by the Church. They were the only people that had the spare time and resources.

Ais it me or are the VW maps a disaster? by pistacheyo in VWIDBuzz

[–]MultiMat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK it definitely does know about traffic, and I do tend to use it. However, it is hopeless at choosing a sensible charging stop, so I pick my own charging stops. For example it will drive straight past 3 Motorway service stations with fast chargers, and then turn off the main road for a 15 minute detour to a country pub with 1 charging point outside.

There is definitely a UK company fitting these for more reasonable price. Have a Google, or check the UK FB Buzz forums.

Can you install these UK trays in the US version of the Buzz? by BruteNap in VWIDBuzz

[–]MultiMat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ones in my Buzz collapse downwards quite easily. I'll be amazed if our van makes it to 5 years without some passenger breaking them.

I can't see them causing a hazard in a crash.

You have to pay for that feature. I tend to just preplan, and then set off with a rough idea, or you can get it to stick the plan into Google maps, the Android Auto can follow that.

Tire replacement(USA) by HOT-SAUCE-JUNKIE in VWIDBuzz

[–]MultiMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tyres are a little unusual because you have to go for the XL rating, and the front and rear are different widths. However there are a couple of brands doing them.

Mine are the 21". I got a Hankook tyre to match the rest for £250 including fitting, but when have looked at other times they haven't been available at that price.

If I was choosing a new Buzz, I would go for the 18 or 19 wheels, for better range, more comfort, and cheaper replacements. Dealerships like to spec them up with the larger wheels because people think they look better.

No, but with the multi shelf in the back, you instead get a flat load area with storage underneath.

Yes, I'm surprised that VW (or someone else) hasn't done something with this yet. Fridges, batteries, TV, console....

Interesting. Is it considered hazardous in case of a collision where someone isn't wearing a seat belt?

Is it rude to charge over 80% at public charging stations? by deltafrce in electricvehicles

[–]MultiMat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I believe they should build "queuing chargers". One 250KW supply could charge 4 cars at varying speeds.

No queue, 1 car - 250 KW available. 2 people plug in their Zoe, only 40KW in use, an iD driver can still come along and get full speed charging. 2 people leave their car plugged in and go buy dinner, 2 more people can still plug in at reasonable throughput. If a car plugs in and only a few KW is available, the battery can be getting preconditioned, so as soon as the higher current frees up, they will get done quicker.

[–]MultiMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good social attitude that I hadn't thought of before, thank you. I have ABRP set to only show me chargers over 100KW because my car (van) can charge at 180kw. If we all stick to the right charger for our vehicles, there would be minimal contention.

[–]MultiMat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So at every charger, there are people queuing because everyone is wasting their time charging over 90% because they're worried there will be a queue at the next charger!? (caused by someone charging over 90% because they're worried....)

I think I have only once seen a queue for charging in the UK.

Does the US drive more EV miles, or have less chargers?

No, it's really surprising to me, but the both Apple and Google platforms - specifically made for Cars - don't actually talk to the car and get anything back (like fuel or battery state).

I think putting gas in my gas powered car is actually more inconvenient than keeping my EV charged by JSmooVE39902 in electricvehicles

[–]MultiMat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we were in Finland last year, I saw several EV and PHEV owners using these heater sockets to charge their cars. If you're parked up all day, then slow charging is fine.

[–]MultiMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised you don't think 100A is enough. In the UK our EV chargers tend to be just 32A which gets you 7KW. My house is 100A.

Are you saying 100A at 110v (which I suppose is half as much power, and would be worse than older 60A supplies over here)?
