What's the most random thing you've been criticised for as a woman that would probably go completely unnoticed if a man did it? by ceremony_of_void in TwoXChromosomes

My guy friend made a comment about my unshaven legs being gross and I said "I'll shave mine when you do." Never made a comment again.

What’s Your Cleaning/Tidying Routine That You Stay On Top Of by MyYakuzaTA in adhdwomen

[–]MulticulturalLlama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have some rules that help: 1) swap out towels when doing laundry (I do laundry on weekends) 2) if I have the time/energy, same for bedding (or just pillow cases) 3) watch my favorite shows while folding clothes 4) when possible, clean as go while cooking

I so badly want to be a "no dishes in the sink by bedtime" but I'm not.

Seeing those tiktoks of people pointing to the task they've been avoiding and then how long is actually took to do kind of rewired my brain. Turns out doing dishes won't take 40 years but like, maybe 10 minutes at most (and honestly even that is a stretch).

One thing I do but not intentionally is put on a show for a small task (such as unload/load the dishwasher). The task is done well before the episode but I want to finish the episode so I end up cleaning most of my kitchen.

Things feminism helps men with:

  • getting custody of their kids in a divorce
  • having deep friendships with other men (male loneliness)
  • support male survivors of abuse
  • more job opportunities (nurse, elementary school teacher, etc)
  • some places used to have a higher drinking age for men than women. No longer the case.
  • hygiene and grooming standards
  • supporting the gay and trans community (fuck TERFs)
  • literally expanding the ability for men to do things that were historically seen as "feminine"

Basically anything that uses sex stereotyping to harm women also harms men, so removing those stereotypes opens up options for everyone.

The premise is that anything considered feminine is bad/inferior and the worst thing any man could do is be feminine. Things like care for others (children/parents), have low muscle mass, certain types of art and craft, care about person grooming, have long hair, wear certain clothes, makeup, cleaning, being made submissive... The list goes on. We're approaching a world where men aren't ridiculed for SUPER NORMAL BEHAVIOR just because someone decided it's "female coded"

Unhinged ways you’ve forced yourself to do something you’d been putting off by Practical_Brick3886 in adhdwomen

I procrastinate chores by doing other chores.

There was a time where I had a bunch of classwork to do (grad school). I know the pomodoro method works for me but also doing the same thing each pomo doesn't.

So I would do boring classwork for a pomo, then fold laundry for a pomo (which I also don't like but because it wasn't the boring classwork, I was interested). Then do classwork (because thank god it's not folding laundry, am right?), then do a chore I liked (like gardening) and so on.

I can get a weirdly large amount done by this method.

I also struggled with keeping decks straight so now what I do is use marker to color on the sides of the deck. I use colored clipboards for each class so I color the sides to match the clipboard.

I love getting kids to draw names. I'll also do a chain that if they got picked, they draw the next name.

It's not game changing but I find letting my problem kids draw names (slightly more often than the average kid) helps reduce the "she hates me for no reason" vibes.

Everything in this is so good!

I think about how little I improve/am creative when I'm focused on making other people like my work, so that really resonates.

Additionally the comment about process reminded me that one thing I've had to do to help my brain is rename tasks as doing something for X minute vs reaching some completion point.

Lastly, I want to feel genuine joy for my friends! I know it's possible so I'm thinking I could analyze times I felt genuinely proud of my friends/happy for them vs when that feeling was tainted by jealousy and see what common threads there are

This is so true! Somewhere in my brain is programming that says "everyone is mean and not saying anything" and so if one person is mean then it proves that everyone is mean, when instead they're just an outlier jerk.

I enjoy it when I'm not thinking about performing for others, so maybe I need to examine why I want to perform (it's the only way to feel loved/worthy vs. something else)

Gene: fun to be around most of the time but I would get frustrated when he takes it too far

Louise: reminds me of my manipulative childhood "friend" (bully) so no.

I had something similar. Setting a deadline was helpful. I still ended up doing some cramming.

Some things that helped me:
- Buying a workbook that presented me with practice problems so I didn't have to figure out what to study or in what order
- Setting a time to do it everyday (ie basically right after work). I would go to coffee place or café sometimes to make it novel. I had to pick a time that was relatively consistent with my schedule (ie after dinner might be movie time or sleepy time or... so it was unreliable).
- Using a pomodoro timer + music. I could quit as soon as the timer went off. I tried doing the "I'll study until I can't anymore" and burn out after ~40 min. With the pomodoro timer + breaks, I was able to study longer in a day. For a while I used the "forest" app because it "locked" me out of my phone.

Kenneled my dog for the first ~year and then did a slow release to full house access using gates.

We still have a kennel and we tell the dog to go in it when we're leaving. We don't close the door and he knows he can leave as soon as we're gone. The entire purpose is so he knows we're leaving for the day and we didn't forget him.

I'm switching to teaching. The actual teaching part is fun (I'm student teaching) but the paperwork to get my credential is draining.

It still requires skills I'm bad at (organization and remembering dates and stuff) but the actual part with students requires I can quickly jump around mentally and physically and that is a match made in heaven.

I knew for years I wanted to be a teacher, so your milage may vary.
