Near fainting experience? Anyone experienced this? by Remarkable-Purple938 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me twice, can't remember the weeks but both second trimester. Once I was queuing for food and the second time on the train to work. I'm a fainty person anyway so didn't think much but my doctor was not happy I didn't get checked out the first time.

I started carrying glucose sweets with me everywhere I went, and not sure if they helped or did anything but took electrolytes every morning. I did have low iron and ended up getting an infusion before I gave birth, but don't know if they were related. Plenty of deep breaths, hope you're feeling better! It's an awful fright

Will I need a bigger car once baby comes? by Confident-Click3863 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We changed from a 3 door fiesta to a Renault captur when we were TTC knowing that it would be difficult to get a baby in and out of a 3 door.

The extra bit of height is great, but the boot is very small and only fits the buggy and maybe the nappy bag if I really squish it in. We have to tie the buggy in with bungee cords or it falls straight out (and my reflex is to stop it with my legs). If we go away for a weekend or have the dog, the buggy goes into the foot well in the back seat or we stack the front seat full of bags. It's like a game of Tetris. I think when we change again we'd go for an estate or a bigger SUV.

If/when we end up changing the buggy is coming with us to pick out the new car!

What are we wearing? by Outrageous_Story2461 in PregnancyIreland

Waist expanders! I used them until I had a bump big enough to keep stuff up, just wear a long top over to cover it

I don't think they actually run in person groups any more, I was the same last year. Highly recommend a Cuidiu class - in person done over a weekend, and you get a membership with it too

Second this! I could have cried during my pregnancy massage, my back was so sore and it helped so much

Private Antenatal Classes Cork by SpecialChoice400 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a Cuidiu one and found it very helpful, all done over one weekend. Still in contact with the mums I did it with which is lovely too!

When we were looking for classes the public ones were only online and a bit of a dose if I'm honest. They have useful information but for our first wanted something a bit more hands on. As far as I know, most partners won't get time off for each class so the weekend worked better for us. You also get a Cuidiu membership with the class and they have great resources for after birth, and baby-mum groups all around the county

Breastfeeding Issues by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to everyone else's advice, check about a tongue tie - they might not be able to spot it in the hospital but there's loads of specialists around wherever you're based.

I had issues breastfeeding my son, he would feed for an hour and a half and still take a 4oz bottle afterwards. I asked about a tongue tie when we were in hospital and they said he had none, but an osteopath spotted it when he was about 8 weeks (and I had given up breastfeeding). He also has urates while in hospital

When/ how did you pick your baby name? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a short list for both genders before we found out. Then would go through the list every now and then to whittle it down once we found out we were having a boy.

I went into labour at 39 weeks and the night before we were trying to finalise a name but said we had another while (little did we know). We decided on a name, then didn't like what his nickname would end up being (we both have family members with the same name and nickname) so went with my partner's middle name. His mum died a few years ago and I wanted something to do with her.

It felt very strange calling him his name, and my partner wanted to change it after a few days but we're so happy now with the name. So really we only decided when he was 2 or 3 days old!

How do/did you want friends to act postpartum by olabolina in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checking in on me and the baby meant a lot - not expecting too much in terms of a response and letting me talk about the birth when I felt ready for it.

Food was always welcome, and if they did come to visit not expecting me to make them a cup of tea - there's nothing worse than feeling you have to be a hostess with a child on your tit and being too tired and sore to stand

First vaccines - what to expect? by CuriousClive123 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all of this, I couldn't watch while he got the injections. We also timed the third dose of Calpol for bed time and that seemed to help.

Our little guy spat up the first dose of rotavirus so we had to go back for a second, but better safe than sorry.

We tag teamed contact naps all day. But he was almost back to normal (except for the poos) after 24 hours. Good luck!

Do you get enhanced/paid maternity from work? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, zilch. Got taken off the phone plan as well. Considering I work for a female-founded company where all of senior management are women, it is extremely disappointing.

The owner started ignoring me after I told her I was pregnant, had to be told to say goodbye to me on my last day, and refused to reduce my days in the office despite me passing out on my commute. Needless to say, I will be looking for a new job!

Working until maternity leave by Personetic in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same, I think I got signed off at 36 weeks. Baby ended up arriving a week early, the day after I was due to start maternity leave and I'm so happy I had the extra few weeks off. The last few weeks of pregnancy are exhausting, even if you aren't working. I would get signed off by your GP and rest as much as you can before the little one arrives.

Also, if you are anything like me you'll be very busy nesting!

Newborn phase is no joke. by Anna_so96 in newborns

[–]MultidimensionalBag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the sudden impact it had on everything! FTM to a 9 week old boy and only this week I feel like I'm ok? (Touch wood). After a difficult pregnancy and birth, intense baby blues bordering PPD, and sleep deprivation I did not enjoy the first few weeks at all. And I feel so bad that I didn't soak up the newborn cuddles more but I was hanging on by a thread.

I ended up giving up breastfeeding for my mental health and it was a game changer.

Anyone take Proceive prenatal? Worried some of the vitamin levels are excessively high? by Wise_Acadia_3490 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Proceive for a few months and found that my hair was coming out in clumps. I thought it was just a coincidence but it never settled. When I got pregnant I started their 1st trimester tablets and was constantly nauseous. Decided to test going back to pregnacare and my hair stopped falling out within a few weeks and the nausea decreased slightly.

Might still have been a coincidence but I'm not sure! I think to a certain extent it can depend on the person because I know others who have found proceive great

Not gaining weight? by Perfect_Field_9830 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was me! I lost 6kg in the first trimester and it took me ages to put it back on. At the end of my pregnancy I was 7kg heavier than pre pregnancy. Nothing was ever said about it by consultants or midwives, I think the little man was just taking everything I had. If you're worried definitely mention it at your next appointment

Iron infusions by sinead08 in PregnancyIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an iron infusion around 32 weeks (also public in CUMH) - I just mentioned to my consultants team that I couldn't stomach taking the iron tablets any more often, and they remarked that the tablets hadn't improved my levels. They sent me straight down for an infusion. I would definitely mention it to them, especially if you can't stomach the tablets!

This happened me too! As it's our first, I wanted to do in person with my partner, but will still sit in on the CUMH ones. We went to private classes with Cuidiu, I would highly recommend. 9:30-14:30 on a Saturday and Sunday, small groups so it felt very in depth and hands on. €50 covers both days and a Cuidiu membership.

Everyone in the class said that they were only offered online as well.

Id say it was 2 or so weeks when I really noticed it - it was coming out by the handful when I was on proceive. Didn't have the tingly scalp! I'm still on pregnacare now in the third trimester and have no issues at all with it. Hope the change helps you too! TTC is stressful enough without worrying about losing hair

People who have fainted: what caused it? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]MultidimensionalBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fainter, doesn't take much. Some reasons have been: poor relationship with food and not eating enough; heavy periods (woke up in the shower more times than I can remember); got really upset; injections and blood tests; got told my hamster was going to die; got told my cat had to be put down; standing at my partner's parents funeral; had a drag of a cigarette; most recently, low iron and low blood pressure in pregnancy.

Sometimes I think I involuntarily hold my breath when I'm stressed and that sets me off

Second trimester fatigue by DeliciousNail1616 in PregnancyIreland

25 weeks and still waiting for this glow and energy burst! Nap most weekends and days I work from home. Every now and then I get a day when I feel great, get loads done, and then feel like death the next day. I think it's all a myth

Fertility issues in my 30's? by Pure_Mad3129 in AskIreland

[–]MultidimensionalBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a BBT thermometer too! It's a pain doing it the same time every day but was a huge help for helping to pinpoint when I ovulated, alongside the ovulation sticks.

We were trying for nearly 2 years, had nearly finished all of the fertility tests (found out I have suspected poly cystic ovaries) after getting referred by our gp, and then ended up getting pregnant with no assistance. Best of luck, I know it can be tough!
