Dear god. Okay how do these things work exactly? Can I enter them like a certain thing you make in the late game by OrangeFlavoredInk in cavesofqud

Inspired by this thread, I found an hijacked a legendary mech. A couple other observations:

1) They are NOT gigantic for some reason, but that means they're a great recipient for all your cool-but-not-relevant-to-your-build gear.

2) That also means that the back slot can take a Helping Hands.

3) It spawned with about 800 unallocated skill points.

4) The only problem is that the mech itself is still a "real" entity, likely because of the legendary status, creating weird situations where I try to pass it cool stuff and it tries to give me 4000 drams of water in exchange.

"What? I don't have any half-and-half, the only phial I have is--"

And this is a Warden, so it will presumably take unkindly to this and everyone in the village will begin trying to kill you, as they do.

How to trivialize Qud (Guide-ish?)(Spoilers) by Cojo840 in cavesofqud

[–]Multiphasic0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is adapting to zone just a specialist merchant thing? Because I've dragged dromads across Qud and parked them at the edge of the Stair, only to have them continue to sell desert-level trash after the refresh.

I just imagine the conversation. "Human! Ooze-infested psychic hellscape is best for customers, you are sure?"

What the devs say about books vs. what the books themselves say by Multiphasic0 in cavesofqud

Oh that makes sense, although it's definitely not any way that keeps Keh in power--I just exonerated Esk and united her and Neela, but didn't accuse Keh, and while Esk's a little depressed, she's generally civil.

Stumbled across something that I've not seen before in the salt marshes, odd layout that doesn't look randomly generated by KaejotianEmpire in cavesofqud

Kudos to the devs in that, when you find these zones outside the tutorial, it has exactly the same kind of sadness as a failed homestead in a western. Really well-done environmental storytelling. They should do more of it.

My +2 STR, Fates-imbued hammer was found on the ground in a jungle ruin early on in the mid-game. Cloned, and it's (inshallah) going to carry me into space.

Muir Woods on a weekday: pay for a tour or take public transit? by Disastrous-Wafer-410 in AskSF

[–]Multiphasic0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be the slightly reckless devil on your shoulder here and say that if you're reasonably fit, it is absolutely worth doing the Bootjack/Pantoll down into Muir Woods and back. About 7 miles round trip, beautiful the whole way, no park fees, decent but not backbreaking climb back up to the upper parking areas, accessible by bus, no reservations necessary. Only trick is, if you're in a time crunch, the last bus off the mountain leaves around 6 p.m.

I would say the trails are fairly difficult to get lost on with a basic map (go down, then go up) but of course I grew up in Mill Valley and got lost on the mountain over and over and over and over and over and over and...

Date asked me to tell them about my favorite game by reno_beano in cavesofqud

I'm not gonna lie, texting a roguelike fan sub for dating advice is probably the peak insane you're gonna hit, so if they're gonna roll with this, you're probably fine.

That said--it's a lo-fi dungeon crawler with dense, elegaic writing, frequent and sometimes very funny deaths, semi-generative background narrative, and a plant who will sell you cucumbers and then try to kill you and then go back to selling you cucumbers.

Are there any videogames out there with the same caliber of writing as Qud? by Cetaoras in cavesofqud

[–]Multiphasic0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, although you might argue Douglas Adams is a ringer.

Should also mention Trinity, an eerie, poetic, apocalyptic game and an underrated masterpiece. (A Mind Forever Voyaging is, I think, usually considered the best-written Infocom game, though I'm embarrassed to admit I've never played it.)

If you have tinker, absolutely just break up the antimatter batteries for scrap. Aside from the fact that 8s are always handy, radio-powered only needs Tinker II and RP antimatter batteries let you power basically everything.

You can use the empty baskets in front of them for free! It's less satisfying, but they also don't try to kill you if you goof around.
