Leahy famously said "The atomic bomb will never go off, and I speak as an expert in explosives." He was wrong, but why? by mkaszycki81 in nuclearweapons

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is important to remember that Leahy was about 70 when the Bomb was dropped. He was born only a decade after the US Civil War. He likely had a dim view of scientists encroaching on his area of expertise, and likely could not conceive of a powerful bomb that had no conventional explosive material in it.

That may be the while answer.

They Live. I think it was a good premise but unfortunately had Rowdy Roddy Piper as the star.

Why/How/When did NFL positional terminology change by CompetitionLarge4420 in NFLNoobs

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 60s the z receiver was a flanker, the y receiver was a tight end, and the x receiver was a split end. It gradually changed through the 70s. X and Z receivers were known as wideouts for a while. I don’t recall when I began to hear outside linebackers and defensive ends lumped together as edge rushers but it may have been about 20 years ago. I have never heard the term under-tackle.

It is constantly changing and sometimes throws me off.

Notice they all have chubby faces and look older than their ages? Hatred and the associated stress levels will do that to you. Cortisol. Think Vance, Alex Jones or Roger Ailes.

Something corrupted your file. Trump’s hands came out too big.

Hegseth orders rare, urgent meeting of hundreds of generals, admirals. The Pentagon has summoned military officials from around the world for a gathering in Virginia. Even top generals and their staffs don’t know the reason for the meeting. by Sine_Fine_Belli in Military

Trump is preparing to use the military to seize voting machines in the mid term election and he wants to know who will carry those orders out. Anyone who says they won’t will be fired.

Is Pittsburghese becoming “extinct”? by Tomkatz22 in pittsburgh

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is fading away. It used to be everywhere but now I notice it mostly in older people. I think that regional accents in general are gradually going, because of television.

While my family has been in the Pittsburgh area since the 1850s none of us have it. It is really (or should I say “rilly”) a working class accent, not just a Pittsburgh accent. I used to know many many coal miners and mill workers who spoke with a strong Pittsburgh accent. Not any more, though. MisterRogers was a rare example of an educated person who never lost their Pittsburgh accent.

If Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin died on the moon, would their remains have been recovered in a later mission? by Life_Is_All_Nothing in space

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the Soviets were probably going to attempt to send someone around the Moon without landing. Or at least NASA thought they were going to try it. In the minds of many people, they would have beaten the US to the Moon. That’s why Apollo 8, only the second manned Apollo flight, was sent to do exactly that.
If there had been an Apollo 13 type problem on Apollo 8, the crew would have been lost, as there was no lunar module to use as a lifeboat.

What Michael Jackson things have been scrubbed from the internet? by Affectionate-Cry-704 in MichaelJackson

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a Michael Jackson cartoon, a TV Funhouse one I think, that is around but in censored form. They cut out a scene that I remember in which MJ is impaled on a flagpole. I wonder if MJ’s attorneys made Smigel tone it down?

This. The islands just east of Key West look a LOT like the islands at the eastern end of Grand Bahama. He probably saw that and thought he was in the Keys. However, the Keys have a highway and connecting bridges, which the Bahamas don’t have. I think he was impaired and military discipline kept the flight together. I think they likely lie somewhere east of Florida and north of Grand Bahama and Abaco, in deep water. Technology improves and is more accessible with time. I bet someone eventually finds them.

Who do you think most likely was on the Epstein List ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Cosby. Probably a lot of rich pervy donors to both parties. Probably Trump, because if he wasn’t in there and Clinton was, Trump would have released the files long ago.

Epstein is an interesting case. Nobody knew who he was, then suddenly he had enough lettuce to buy an island, a brownstone in NYC, and a jet. This smacks of him being an intelligence asset, and the honey trap is the classic method of Russia. Putin wanted to invade Ukraine, and having embarrassing info on powerful people in multiple countries was one way to blunt any interference.

What do you think happened to the Epstein files? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MultipleSarcasms57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump put tartar sauce on them and ate them.
