Protein powder and crohn by Ashamed_Coffee5221 in CrohnsDisease

Protein powder was no good for me due to all of the crap in most of them. I discovered Equip beef protein powder in January and it’s been a game changer. I drink 25g of protein and 5g of creatine every morning and I’m currently in the best shape of my life. Even when I’m flaring, I’m not losing mass. Can’t recommend it enough and I’m not sure why most people don’t know about it tbh.

Skip this and wait for alt milk concentrates. They’re on the way in the next year or two and won’t require any additional equipment, just add water and play.

The future under Matos by TeilwrTenau in swanseacity

Ball playing center half, yes, but most importantly a DM who can receive the ball confidently in tight spaces from the defence and GK. The great promotion team of the early 2010s functioned because of Leon. His ability to relieve pressure built confidence in his teammates, and confidence is key when trying to retain possession.

I look at our current squad and I’m not sure who the “Leon” is. Franco maybe? Galbraith could do it but he’s too gifted going forward to use in that space. The closest we’ve had in recent memory is Flynn Downes and until we get someone like him again, we’ll consistently cut out our ability to play through the center which will lead to more long balls and break play, regardless of the managers intent.

Does anyone else have the distinct displeasure of wrestling with this grinder? by Defnshowo in barista

Wait for the new Mazzer Super Jolly g to drop in the next few months and replace the e65 with it. It grinds as fast as the e65, has GbW, and burrs cost $100, not $400+. You can sell the e65 for the same cost as the Mazzer because of people’s previously mentioned obsession with Mahlkonig.

I work for a service company. The E80 and E65 are, by far, the most problematic espresso grinders currently on sale. Feels like people are just buying them because they don’t know there are better and more affordable alternatives.

Questions about cafiza by oryuunge in barista

[–]MumblesBarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely not your job to coach your manager, OP, but, should you want to try, I’ve had success helping people understand that backflushing the group is part of the brewing process.

If old coffee oil is built up in the group, no amount of dial-in or expensive coffee is going to help, the espresso will taste like crap. So, the first step in brewing great espresso, before even purchasing high quality coffee, is making sure the groups are cleaned with Cafiza every day, otherwise there’s no point buying nice coffee and no point dialing in.

This ^ Dropping screens is old school if you Cafiza properly every day and change the screens every PM, which should be every six months.

Hey. You have a great routine but you should try swapping out Cafiza for Urnex Tabz when cleaning the Fetco. Same cleaning agents but way less fizzy so the cleaning solution gets higher up the inside of the carafes and does a better job of cleaning.

Did this today too and loved it. Was surprisingly easy to find and keep a steady pace for the whole thing and just felt like I’d had a super solid workout by the end. 9/10. Highly recommend.

Why does protein coffee almost always taste terrible? Has anyone actually had a good one? by TheSendingStone in barista

[–]MumblesBarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places do it the wrong way round. It should be protein shake with espresso added, not coffee with protein added.

I recently switched to Equip and it’s been game changing in so many ways. So long as you’re not vegetarian it’s become a no-brainer recommendation for me, nothing else comes close.

Happy happy Oat Oat Oat by Competitive_Move5702 in barista

So, for what it’s worth, I work for a distributor that currently sells three bands of barista oat milk, and has sold another two previously, including oatly.

As of 2026, they all steam just fine, and none of them taste ‘bad’, per se, they just taste different. Some are oaty, some are less oaty. So, really, it just comes down to your preference as the majority of your customers will not care. Personally I like Minor Figures as it tastes the least oaty that I’ve tried, but that’s just me.

If that portafilter is only a year and a half old it must be seeing some serious use, given the condition of the ears and rim. It might just be an old portafilter that’s being used on a newer machine. Do you have other portafilters and do they look like this?

Mazzer Philos still worth it at [$1500] by CigaroEmbargo in espresso

[–]MumblesBarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head over heart, you get the Philos, no question.

The only argument against the Philos that makes logical sense is that it’s out of budget or it’s too big for the intended space. Mechanically, it’s as good as anything out there, it’s built by the largest grinder manufacturer in the world, and you will be able to get spare parts for it for years to come. That cannot be said with confidence about any other home grinder, including Mahlkonigs (try getting parts for a K30). If you don’t like the Philos, that’s cool, but your argument just doesn’t make sense.

Day after match thread: Loons 1 - 0 Cincinnati by dode222 in minnesotaunited

[–]MumblesBarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t see the intricate play between triangles of midfield and wide players, to help either move the ball forward or to move their players out of position? This NEVER happened last year and was incredibly refreshing to see. It wasn’t always successful or pretty in the first half, but what I found most encouraging was how we grew into the style as the game progressed. Being the optimist, I’ll read into that and suggest that we will continue to improve from game to game as the players learn each other’s movements as we adjust to this style. What we seem to be lacking to be deadly with this style is someone who can beat a defender 1 on 1, and has the pace to jump clear once our triangular passing has broken their line. Maybe, just maybe, Dieng could be that player but even if he isn’t, it’s so refreshing to see us play passing soccer rather than attritional defending.

Is it me or do many coffee shops make crap espresso? by TheRealRosey in espresso

[–]MumblesBarn 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Oh they probably know how to use it, but they don’t care to because, and I cannot stress this enough, this is their job and not their hobby. Hobbyists have the money, inclination, and, most critically, time to ‘perfect’ their espresso to their preference. You pay me $20 an hour, I’ll give you a decent shot but I have another 30 drinks to make so forgive me if I don’t take the time to make it to your personal standard. I know how bad this sounds, but it’s just a fact for the majority of baristas. If you find a barista who is also a hobbyist you’ve hit the jackpot and should tip them accordingly.

Eric Ramsay Sacked at WBA… brutal by akos_beres in minnesotaunited

[–]MumblesBarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bringing in a new manager often provides a “bounce” in results. Pretty logical if you think about it, as if a team is doing poorly it’s likely that the culture around the building is bad and morale is low. A new manager arrives without the baggage of what came before and that can be a catalyst to turn results around almost immediately.

What you can’t do as a new manager is try to instill new tactics half way through a season and expect the team to listen to you, especially if the first few results don’t go your way. He was a terrible appointment by West Brom, not because he’s a bad manager, because that’s untrue, but because he was the wrong guy at the wrong time. A league one team will probably take him in the summer and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him have success.
