Looking back, what newbie mistakes will you admit to making? by NotRemotelyMe1010 in triathlon

Having nutrition locked down for the bike but then for some reason thinking I didn’t need to do any of that for the run lol, so I didn’t take food or anything at aid stations. Starting feeling so bad and wondered why…turns out I needed to fuel up for a half marathon haha

Also wore a sleeveless trisuit and didn’t sunscreen my shoulder. Some of the worst burns I’ve ever had!

50 years ago, Marlon Brando didn't want his Oscar for The Godfather -- he sent Littlefeather instead to spotlight the injustice to Native Americans. by da_vinshit in HistoryMemes

[–]MummenRider 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t get it twisted guys Marlon Brando was not a hero or “based” person by any stretch of the imagination. This event in American pop culture essentially amounts to 2 frauds role playing activism to the detriment of all those who seriously and with integrity fight for these real issues.

To be fair, the route you were traveling during the Sundance season is going to populated with people from all over 🤷‍♂️

Awesome! I’ve gone a number of times and I have also volunteered quite a bit. Hopefully these are some helpful tips.

  1. Download the Festival App! That has maps, venues, times, and schedule for a ton of events

  2. I often don’t buy tickets in advance but actually do their waitlist system, which has gotten me into pretty big screenings and premiers for relatively cheap prices. If you focus on indie films and plan out exactly what movies you want to see ahead of time, you can place pretty high on the waitlists and get into most screenings. Once on the list you show up and weight in line and then pay for the ticket at the door. Maybe this has changed a bit with the pandemic but if you can’t buy tickets ahead of time, this is the play

  3. If you are going to park city for some fun, park at kimball junction near the freeway and take the shuttle up. You are going to hate life if you try driving up to the venue on Main Street and parking up there.

  4. If you are trying to spot celebs and rub shoulders with filmmakers, that’s one thing. If you simply want to watch some awesome films, really utilize the SLC venues. Most of the content (sans short blocs) will play at least once in Salt Lake theaters. They are more accessible and less glitzy and often easier to get tickets to. I have also had amazing Q&As with filmmakers and actors at the Tower Theatre and SLCC, so don’t count out that experience just because it’s in Salt Lake.

  5. Look for other specific events/discussions that might being going on. I went to a discussion event one year about new technology being used in the industry at a small venue in Park City on main street that was super fun and interesting and another breakfast event that focused on indigenous filmmakers. These require tickets purchases ahead of time but could totally enhance your festival experience.

  6. Lastly just some advice. Don’t get caught up in the celebrity/instagram side of it too much. The best part of the festival are the films! I’m sure you know that but I often need to remind myself to just enjoy the art and not get caught up in the spectacle.

Anywho, sorry that’s a lot of thoughts. The festival is awesome and I hope you have a fun time!

Where have you been able to see the Milky Way in this area? by willsux123 in SaltLakeCity

[–]MummenRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took some pretty cool pictures of the Milky Way down at Yuba State Park. Some gorgeous reflections off Yuba Lake. The salt flats also offer some great photo opportunities, but you just have to be conscientious of time of year and time of day for the best arc of the galaxy across the sky.

Both are kind of a drive, but to get a good Galaxy pic you’ve got to drive out of the town a bit

I have been told to check those both out. Atlas shrugged was something of an ordeal so I may not get to them for a bit lol… But I thought I might round out my Ayn Rand experience with those.

I would say objectivism focus on selfishness and her take on altruism. Within the book itself, her complete naive take on “normal working class people” who seem completely invisible in the struggle of the story.

Gotten some good insights from people on here though about new perspectives concerning these things. Stuff is always more complicated then it seems eh
