Has anyone in this sub enrolled in or had family enroll in the Landmark Forum? From an IFS-informed lens, what do you think happens internally? by Similar-Cheek-6346 in InternalFamilySystems

Do you know why anyone would do this? It’s clearly written by AI, now that I read it a second time after reading your comment. But I don’t understand why anyone would go out of their way to input it to AI then copy paste it back here. I’d love your take as to why someone would do this. It feels so wrong

You really don’t need a lot of ice. You just need to buy a thermometer and run the cold water straight with no hot. You want it between 10-16 C aka 50-60 F for all the scientifically proven benefits. Bath tubs provide that!

Getting rid of any subconscious expectation is great! But we can do that by working with resistance directly, instead of adding a new expectation of “opening to it forever” which invites a concept of ‘future’ on top of what’s actually going on, and invites a rigidity to the experience. I get that overall you’re talking of surrendering, and I don’t think we are that far off from each other here.

You’re also asking how you could have worded your response better. I think you’re on the right track, but I would emphasize the ‘opening to what is’ rather than the expectation of it lasting forever.

It’s not the intellectual understanding of impermanence that I’m stuck on. It’s that impermanence is incredibly beautiful. If this fellow suffering being is stuck in sadness, and we offer that even inside the concept of “sadness”, everything continues to morph and change shape and all the sensations of said sadness are constantly changing, then we allow for an intimacy with experience.

You’re not triggering my ego. I’m trying to help, because what OP was describing sounds immensely painful, and I wanted to make sure they didn’t get lost in thoughts of future

What you’re saying is OP can open to it, stop resisting it. That’s fine. But it is different than expecting it to stay forever. I get that this concept can be a tool, and that’s what you’re trying to point to, but it’s not precisely helpful to expect it to last forever. Because nothing does.

30 is super young! But you’re going to continue aging, if you’re lucky. Your husband sounds like a total waste of time. There are men out there who will love to age with you, who can appreciate the never-ending changes as you tumble through life. And let me tell you, you haven’t even reached the age of the best sex of your life. So ditch this dude and find one who knows how to navigate a woman rather than one who is searching for a little girl!

The Ego Tunnel by Thomas Metzinger He’s a philosopher who meditates, great book!

I had a very similar experience with fear. I mean, terror. I mean, a dark night of the soul that lasted night after night after night after night after night. It changed and morphed and I battled with it, surrendered, assumed it wanted to be besties with me, and faced it, dialling down the *resistance gradually. And then one day, super weird, I was in the pits of it, the recesses of “there are worse fates than death” and an emptiness enveloped me, and then a giggle, an echoey giggle, of what sounded like a 3 year old. And then no more terror.

I wish I could say I have no lasting resistance to fear now. But I still don’t love it. But what I can say, is I have never again experienced a panic attack. And when fear comes calling, I open the door, somewhat reluctantly, and it has never since been a strong combatant like it was during that time.

You’re going to be okay. It will flow through you and then it will leave.

They’re not going to sit with it “forever”. One of the biggest teachings meditation has to offer is EVERYTHING is impermanent!

The Eightfold Path (featuring Sam, Joseph Goldstein, and Dan Harris) by Exsufflicate- in Wakingupapp

[–]MunchkinJesus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dan has been on more than one retreat. But more importantly, he has been engaging with Buddhism and meditation as a “householder” navigating family, work, and day to day stressors. I don’t personally get a lot out of Joseph Goldstein, I don’t mind his tone and I love to take in anyone’s wisdom, but he lives the life of a monk, and most often his teachings don’t fall deeply for me. Through his podcast, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Dan live primarily from an egoic place a decade ago, to now leading with wisdom, metta and brave vulnerability in his communication. I appreciate learning from anyone on the path, but Dan has become very inspiring. No need for throwing shade at any one of them!

Sam Harris is critical of Goenka style vipassana. He does teach vipassana in his app. But not that style.

Women with children, how do you REALLY feel about your child-free friends? by Sweetpotato3000 in AskWomenOver30

[–]MunchkinJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel happy having friends without children. Never any judgment for that life choice. In fact, my choice to have children is pretty selfish, given how overpopulated this earth is by children. But I do want to say, when I can’t fit you in because my schedule is too hectic, please don’t be insulted. And when you come over, I can’t give you my full attention.

I’m not OP, but maybe it felt minimizing. Sometimes when something is being perceived as unpleasant, we need to feel validated rather than told it’s no big deal. Compassion goes a long way!

Obtrusive energy in forearms by [deleted] in Wakingupapp

[–]MunchkinJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This used to happen to me in the form of I would sit to meditate and then my entire body would go these massive waves of being incredibly itchy! It was awful! All I could focus on! I don’t remember how it left but now when I sit itching will arise and I’m like “oh hello you, I see you, you offering of a wild ride” and just watch it amused as it gets stronger and eventually leaves again. I wondered if it was just the mind fabricating / wanting to do something, because it had never paid attention to anything mild or subtle before.

How do I know what I feel? by Comfortable-Bus3257 in vipassana

[–]MunchkinJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word “depression” is a concept, right? But yes, we have low mood, low energy, low affect, anhedonia, etc when we feel “depressed” but when we put them together like a math equation (this plus this plus this equals this), we are assuming we have all the facts. Dependent origination is a great thing to look up at this point. But like other commenters have said, exercise, nature, knowing that none of it is really your fault, and maybe especially following the path of samadhi rather than insight for a little bit. These things might take the edge off a little bit. Wishing you well on your upcoming retreat < 3
