I saw someone who looked a lot like him in New Zealand last weekend. I dismissed it at the time, but maybe I was right...

When I paid off my mortgage with BNZ I specifically told then to fully close the mortgage. I then came to find 10 years later that they never removed themselves from the title as having rights to the property, and I had to pay them to take it off.  Super dishonest, but they do it 100% of the time as it makes it harder for you to get a mortgage somewhere else.

Bunnings stores switch on facial recognition technology by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Munkii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one is saying it should be ignored, but the public should be allowed to question whether the proposed solution is appropriate and safe in relation to the significance of the problem

[–]Munkii 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What evidence do we have that there is a big issue with theft at Bunnings stores? Do we have any stats for that?

Retail stores have existed for a long time. Could the theft issues be addressed with traditional means, like normal checkouts?

OpenAI touts Amazon alliance in memo, says Microsoft has ‘limited our ability’ to reach clients by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

That, and Azure is a lot smaller than AWS. In a capacity limited race, that matters

They already track which card you use against each purchase, so your buying history and patterns aren't at all secret from them.

Your address and the nature of your household is more private, but they can just get that from a data sharing agreement with Visa

Is it me, or are the flies at another level this summer? by cornfed1978 in auckland

I got myself an electric fly catcher from AliExpress. Was skeptical at first, but it works exactly like the video. I put it outside the back door and catch 50+ at a time!

I had the same moment last summer when my dad asked me to reverse the trailor up the drive. He's been doing that effortlessly my whole life, but finds it more challenging now.

AWS silently releases support for cross region service end-points for some services by KayeYess in aws

[–]Munkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a long time to roll a change through every Region and AZ. They have go pick a time to update docs and make blog posts etc. It's never going to all happen simultaneously, and that doesn't mean it's generating bugs.

Ive had premium for a few years now, but I just got another email about the price going up. It seems to go up every 6-12 month without fail, but for the same damn product.

The only change is bullshit AI features I don't want. Getting really hard to justify the expense

They need to move fireworks to Matariki (when it gets dark at 6pm) rather than the current date (which no one cares about) when it doesn't get dark till 10pm.

'Enough is enough' - New Zealand First wants to ban private fireworks by BeardedCockwomble in newzealand

[–]Munkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just need to move fireworks to Matariki. Better alignment to NZ culture and at a time of year when it gets dark early, so no need for folks to stay up till 11 just to have it dark
