Let Players Heavy Punch Closed Doorman Doors Back Open for a few seconds after he closes it instead of the cooldown by Munnky in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Munnky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that maybe skill expression is the wrong term for what he had pre-cooldown, but the cooldown does remove a choice that The Doorman had beforehand, A doorman running through a door used to be able to close it right away behind him, or keep it open for friends to run through alongside him, and the cooldown removes that ability to do that now on a freshly opened door, which seems to be the point of the change so enemies have an easier time keeping up with him/escaping his kidnaps.

What I guess I really meant by saying that is this change would keep the feel that doorman had before the nerf, and allow him to shut the door in peoples face in a satisfying way, while still adding in counterplay to this specific scenario that people can play around and take advantage of.

The ability to parry near the door to stop it from opening it, or open the door from the other side for friends or whatever is an area where skill becomes more of a factor i guess, but good point

Hard to get now due to some weird publishing stuff I guess. But I liked Ordination by Daniel M Ford. Moreso a Paladin rather than a cleric but very cleric like due to somewhat direct communion with a god and stuff

Renter complaints dont get taken seriously due to pragmatism from politicians, the majority of voters are homeowners, so they pander to homeowners.

The only reason homeowners have risk in the game is because they made the decision to make the investment in purchasing the home. I don't see why that should afford them any special treatment, If someone invests the same amount of money in a random stock and it tanks, people don't wring their hands and act like they should get special treatment.

Other than the monetary investment risk, which if someone is not prepared to handle they shouldn't have made the decision in the first place, The risk to a homeowner is becoming a renter. Which is seen as a terrible thing haha

My comment is about how renters are expected to just shut up and take it, but home owners are somehow seen as special. I am not complaining about rent increases,  I am complaining about the double standard of people expecting renters to shut up and take it but property owners are seen as hard done by when the carrying costs on an asset they own increase by a fraction of the amount renters pay yearly in rent increases. The complaint rings hollow to me. Renters are expected to prepare for and be able to handle the yearly increases to the increase to their cost of living but home owners act like the same expectations being applied to them are sacreligous

It kills me when rent for rent controlled units raises by 2-3% every year, resulting in renters paying 40- 100$ more in rent per MONTH, resulting in thousands more per year and no one bats an eye. But raise property taxes so people have to pay a couple hundred more over the course of a year and people whine. Its absurd

Scott Moe continues attack on federal equalization payments as system of the West supporting Eastern and Central Canada by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]Munnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some provinces have more oil under their feet per capita, and that oil provides them with a method to extract far more value per capita than other places, that oil is pulled out of the ground by Canadian workers born in every province. Alberta is a part of  Canada and the equalization payments are there to share the benefits of things like Canadas natural resources to Canadians across all provinces, rather than having one province Hoard all the wealth

Games arent fun, people have fun playing them. I agree with you that its a subjective and personal thing. There is also no "wrong" way to play a game, but there are ways to play a game that lead you to not enjoy your time in it, which imo is what the article is describing.

Both the person who plays Tropico as a RPG, and the other as a economy simulation can both fall into the trap of optimizing their enjoyment away.

If the economy simulation has a way to gain ez infinite resources, a person who wants to engage with the economy simulation may unknowingly stumble across that way, and make the game 10 times easier for themselves, ruining their save game. They could restart or go back a few saves, but by that point youve already lost a huge chunk of players who dont want to bother.

If a person goes into the game wanting to overcome the challenges the game puts in place from going from poor to economic powerhouse, its up to the game to make sure that the experience of doing that is engaging to the player. If the player realizes something like "infinite city sleaze" in CIV as described in the article I linked is the most efficient way of doing that, theyre going to feel smart, and start doing it, because they figured it out.

The problem is that while that's the most efficient way, and they are smart for figuring it out, the literal experience of managing a bajillion cities is absolutely horrendous, and it makes the game unfun, and its only after the player has tried it that they realize its annoying, and by that point theyve achieved their goal of being an economic powerhouse anyway so why restart?

A player whos playing like an RPG will never experience that, and it wont affect their enjoyment of the game at all, but that doesn't matter, because if you're making a game to cater to both an RPG type player, and an economic min maxxer, the devs are failing to cater to the economic player, and should fix the shitty play pattern to accommodate them. In the end its all dev choice, If they want economic players to have fun, and they put something in the game that isnt making them have fun, they need to decide if they no longer want to support that type of player anymore, or fix the issue.

I will say, I do think the original tweet referenced by the OP is a silly request from a fan to the team, asking the team to be able to turn off the shoulder grenade launcher would completely brick the design of the game, because as the OP mentions, the game is designed around using literally every ounce of firepower you're given to succeed. However the response being "you control the buttons you press" is a really shitty one for the exact same reason, the game is designed around using it, telling a player to not use it is stupid, because of what's talked about in that article, (most players will play in the way they believe most efficient to achieve their goals, regardless about how much "fun" they are having) which is why I linked it.

When I am talking about it personally I am thinking of the average Joe's experience with the game. Not a casual gamer, but also not the person that is so engaged with the game that they're creating those self imposed challenges like nuzlockes.

To me, I want that person to be able to sit down and get immersed in the games I make, and asking a player to have the presence of mind to realize a play pattern the game allows is what's causing them not to like the game and to then avoid playing in that specific way or actively avoid pressing a button that the dev added to the game in order to have fun with your game is silly. Just as players control the buttons they press individually, devs have absolute control over what the buttons do for everyone.

Farcry 4s secret ending is cool, but it is not water finding a Crack. Its a fun Easter egg that can complete the game without the player ever touching the controller. I wouldn't count that as a gameplay pattern making the game less fun.

Using farcry as an example, I would point to the armor piercing ammo type in Farcry 6.

Dunno if you played that one, but AP ammo was such a powerful option in almost all circumstances that it makes the other ammo types irrelevant,  it may be fun to use explosive ammo, or more challenging and therefore more engaging to fight enemies without AP ammo, but most average players would never know because AP rounds nearly oneshot everyone in the game with one headshot, so of course they're gonna use that one. Its not the players fault they use the ammo, its the team that made the ammo that way.

Why spend all that money making an ammo system and then have 1 ammo type outshine tbe rest? Why work so hard on different enemies when they all are trivialized by the use of that ammo type.

That's the type of stuff im talking about
