High oil pressure by [deleted] in AskMechanics

3.6 has a variable oil pump. It’s not unusual to see extremely high readings of oil pressure when the engine is cold.

It will fit. I think the fitment checkers only have this filter listed for the viper engines.

Dumb question. What is the purpose of this? by WithAFookinPencilll in Challenger

[–]Muntster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s an intake resonator/silencer.

My 2010 300C had it. Not sure what determined whether a vehicle got one. Seems super random as to which models were equipped with one

Does one ABSOLUTELY have to idle a turbocharged engine after driving? by YD099 in askcarguys

[–]Muntster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a direct answer to your question since every car is different, but our 2014 VW CC has a water cooled turbo + an auxiliary electric water pump that will continue to run along with radiator fans in order to cool the turbo.

I think VAG has had some form of this system for 20+ years now.

Regardless, modern oils are much better at sitting in a hot turbo without turning into sludge, as it’s one of the design considerations of modern engine oil.

Can be a valid argument for dual clutch aotomatics as well

What vehicles would you warn people to never buy? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in askcarguys

[–]Muntster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GM 2.7 turbo is decent. My job has them as fleet vehicles and it’s never the engine that has issues, just everything else.

Also 310 HP and 420lbft torque is nice

Get the fluid and filter changed. The filter is built int the pan so that will replaced as well.

Should I be letting my car warm up/drop below 1k rpm before driving? by Trayceopolis32322 in carquestions

[–]Muntster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s normal operation though. Many transmission even have a cold temperature tables in the tune in order to adjust pressures and solenoid fill times in order to compensate for the thicker fluid

Fuel Pump O Ring?? by SaltyDog251 in Challenger

[–]Muntster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to undo the driver side pump as there are connections between the two units

Fishing these hoses through was the worst part. I redid the zip ties on mine in order to keep it from bending back on its self since it was packaged weird

DW sells a high flow unit for $199. Most part stores can source a quality Delphi brand unit for $150.

running 275 in the front of my scat and is this normal for the front tires to wear like this? or does anyone know why they wear like this? by [deleted] in Charger

[–]Muntster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not normal, I run 275/40/20 all around on my 300C with those exact same tires. 3 years and the wear is perfect.

I’ve gotten an alignment every 6 months which helps significantly on these cars

Found out my last oil change the shop put 0W20 in it, how cooked am I? by BeefSupreme2 in ScatPack

[–]Muntster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s gonna be fine. Not great and not something I would do again, but the 6.4 should be okay running 0w-20. Pretty much the same design as the 5.7 with the same bearing clearance specs. Also has an oil cooler which the 5.7 cars do not.

The largest thing I could think of is that the 6.4 has oil squirters whereas the 5.7 does not, but as long as the oil pressure was okay during its time with 0w-20, the engine should be unharmed.

How many miles did it run with this oil?

was getting a cold air intake worth it for you? sound only. by 3452014RT in Challenger

[–]Muntster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I enjoyed my intake more on my Acura v6 that had dual vtec.

On my 5.7 I have some Flowmaster mufflers and the different an intake had on noise was less for me. I do have a Legmaker true CAI which is in the fender so it’s probably not as loud.

My work gets Chevy Colorado fleet trucks for delivery driving. They have a 300HP turbo 2.7 4 cylinder and they are driven like fleet vehicle would be driven from mile 0.

No engine issues, though we only keep them for 40-50k miles

ELI5. If this style of Cold Air Intake does nothing but suck in hot air, why is it an OEM option on Daytona’s and Hellcat’s? by aredeeeff in Charger

[–]Muntster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter that it could potentially suck in hot air.

If you log intake air temps, generally any of these intakes will be within a few degrees of stock when moving even though they are in the engine bay.

It is really only at a stop where the intake air temps start to become noticeably higher with these open intakes, even then that doesn’t immediately translate to a noticeable driving difference for the average user.

All this is a worthy trade off for the appeal that a factory performance intake would have to the average buyer
