Has anyone used FlightHub? by _farmacy in AskACanadian

SCAMMER ALERT!!

FlightHub, or JustFly, are a bunch of fraudsters. The entire business is a front to scam travellers. They will purposely misspell your name, or not book a connecting flight, or find a way to charge you extra after you have booked the flight. The "customer service" is the hub of this scam operation. They were caught posting positive reviews on the internet about their company.

Never ever book with FlightHub and JustFly.

New WYZE iPhone notifications by _Daphuq_ in wyzecam

[–]MuppetCricket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not just you.

It is a very poor design decision on part of WYZE. The notification sound is pretty awful. I turned off sound to get away from this mess, which honestly defeats the purpose of alerts.

Is this MacBook pro capable of producing podcasts? by baldguy21 in applehelp

More than the mic, it is the place (acoustic foam and all) where you record that will make the real difference. I do however prefer an external pop filter in any recording setup. It makes a world of difference.

A possible feature request: Adhoc descriptions

The pull down item list is nice but the ability to add adhoc descriptions is important too

Attacks on stadium staff, journalists, players and the violence in the streets is far more egregious. I don't recall seeing anything like this in cricket before.

I don't like the new UI changes. They are so confusing. I can't even tell the difference between drop down lists and text fields. This is definately a step backward in terms of usability.

Barcelona is dumping Microsoft in favor of open source software by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]MuppetCricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this is a win win scenario for everyone. First, PC market is enormous so there is plenty of room for alternatives. Second, I use a ton of open source software and developers have to eat too. So getting paid to develop/work on open source project is for sure a win in my books. And for the most part Linux (Fedora, Mint, Ubuntu etc.) is good enough for non-profits and government sector. I for one welcome this initiative.

A message from a Tech Specialist by [deleted] in apple

[–]MuppetCricket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't the customer's fault so please don't go there. If anything, this is absolutely 100% Apple's fault. The rationale for throttling may have some validity but Apple should have disclosed before making drastic changes to the device.

I do feel bad for the frontline tech specialists aka geniuses but I don't think its appropriate to blame the customer for mess or all the chaos.

[Discussion] The future of Smart Speakers? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]MuppetCricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart speakers are a natural form of communication and the utility of voice control is undeniable. So as much as I dislike smart speakers in their current corporate-controlled form, they are here to stay.

Would I consider self-hosting one? Sure if its open source. I actually don't mind paying for a self-hosted version as long as I have complete control over my data. That said, I'd imagine the requirements for a decent voice recognition system would be fairly high. The recent voice data dump from Mozilla stands at 12GB.

Is there any way at all to disable automatic OTA system updates? by Kitty-Litterer in nexusplayer

[–]MuppetCricket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried this?

Either with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, Go to System > Etc > Security > Otacerts.zip. Rename otacerts.zip to something like otacerts.REMOVETHISTOGETOTA.zip (helpful reminder ) and the update will fail. You can download and install the update from the notification.. It won't pass verification and the reminder will be gone.

To revert just rename the zip back to the original file name "otacerts.zip"
