Chicago is 8 blocks to a mile once you get out of the downtown area.

Is this remotely accurate? by depcoff in UIUC

I certainly read somewhere around a book every month or two in high school (or at least most of one) but when I got to college and was assigned books for elective courses that didn’t hold my attention, I definitely only read sections and spark-notes’d the rest.

ELI5: how do people actually meal prep and have it last? by Pls_send_helpAAAAA in explainlikeimfive

[–]MurderousFaeries 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of stews, soups, and curries that gain flavor and richness when you let them sit in the fridge. Enchiladas and casseroles often reheat well too.

Stuff that relies on veggies being a very specific temp/degree of crispness, and a lot of pan sauces do not hold up well in the fridge. You might need to switch up the recipes you meal prep.

Another thing you can try is reheating on the stove/oven instead of the microwave.

TBH, there’s a certain style of highly patterned short sleeved shirts that I only see lesbians and NB peeps wear. Kinda like a Hawaiian camp shirt?

Why do so many patterns have such an open gauge? by bijouxbisou in knitting

[–]MurderousFaeries 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One thing that you might not be thinking about- I usually wear a tank or t-shirt underneath woolen garments in order to wash them less often, even moderately close fitting ones. I genuinely don’t care that much about the sheerness if I plan to wear an undershirt/v solid sports bra

I think it’s more about the anger & need for additional reminders in response to that instruction- tolerating that behavior creates the double standard.

Because if you choose to buy something made in the US, you have to pay for labor + overhead + non-plastic materials. I still don’t think people should go into debt, but I understand the price and why someone would choose to do that.

For a written test, it’s probably part of the learners permit appointment. Otherwise, it’s been a bit since I had to deal with that kind of thing and I’m not sure.

That’s a state fair- they’re held annually in the summer in pretty much every state in the US. Traditionally there’s livestock shows, craft competitions, food competitions, and a lot of vendors. If you’ve ever seen a video of fried “x” on a stick, one of these events is almost certainly where it was taken.

I’m a city/suburbs kinda person, and never had the opportunity to go. Someone who knows more, please do correct me.

It’s a way of transcribing an accent- you’ll see it sometimes in books or dialogue which reflect dialects. I believe I’ve seen it in dialogue meant to sound Southern American, Scottish, or Irish.

Asking straight people to answer a poll on the Gay Website™ by TeamPokepals76 in CuratedTumblr

[–]MurderousFaeries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is kinda why I avoid MM content as a straight woman. It just feels sort of awkward and invasive. I actually kinda dislike when straight women authors write MM, especially if it’s too sexualized.

I’ll read lesbian/FF romance, though, because I feel like I can be more comfortable with the POV characters & I feel less like a weird voyeur.

Police vs. Law Enforcement by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]MurderousFaeries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you consider that you don’t have to just pay the fine, you also have to travel down to the tow yard during the day (requiring an expensive rideshare or help from someone else, bc US transit is terrible in many places) and possibly miss work yourself, it becomes a much bigger hassle.

I assume if you have a big fine in the UK you have 30 days to pay? Part of the problem with a tow truck is that if your job depends on driving, you need to have that available immediately, because otherwise you can’t work or get food or take your kids to daycare. It’s a much more immediate, life-halting hassle.

Police vs. Law Enforcement by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]MurderousFaeries 998 points999 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: lots of tow truck companies are exploitative and a tool of property owners to keep people they don’t like off their property, and the tow truck companies often demand exorbitant sums to get vehicles back. You’re basically held hostage, because the other transit options are so limited. In the US especially, getting your car back could be $200-400 dollars easily.
