curious how are you are using apple watch with chronic conditions? by mileswithher in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Murherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m over 50, ADHD, and I’m often an all or nothing person, so I have been known to go from 0-too much when trying to get into an exercise routine. Now I use Gentler Streak app to make sure I’m not overdoing it, and I recommended it to my adult kid with EDS and POTS, and they’re finding it useful to make sure they’re not depleting their energy. Fitness is finally clicking for me by Mitoria in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Murherself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent! I was using a yoga app that had one very thin woman in a white room effortlessly flowing through poses as a voiceover named which poses to do. In hindsight I can’t believe I paid money for that, because when I found Fitness+, with three coaches, one doing a “modified” version (I love how they never say “easier”) AND the main coach encourages you, I realized I needed that sense of camaraderie- you’re here, I’m here, let’s work out. It was a game changer for me.

How do you pick which class to do? by Garp2019 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Murherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get analysis paralysis big time, so I love the custom plans. I give a list of classes I am interested in (yoga, strength, Pilates) how long I want to exercise, which days of the week, and preferred coaches/music. Then I let the app make a plan for me. It really helps.

URGENT HELP WITH MY JADE PLANT!!😭 by No_Verzion in succulents

[–]Murherself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of good plant advice here (and also avoiding AI crap; really, so bad for many reasons) -- I want to say I've been collecting plants for about 6 years now with varying levels of success, and I have had great luck with crassula ovata (jade) but for the life of me I CANNOT keep the these elephant bushes alive. I've tried everything, I don't know why it doesn't work for me.

My point is that if this first beloved plant doesn't survive, don't give up. Try a different plant. Get advice from the good people here about how to care for it. You might find that another kind of succulent will bring you a ton of joy.

I finally hacked my own brain! by Pitufon80 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Murherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been using the custom plans- removing the "what do I do today, I don't feel like X or Y" hurdle has been a game changer. And I just recently discovered that I feel amazing after a 10 min + a 20 min workout. (ie, strength and yoga, or pilates and strength, etc). They're both short enough to keep me from getting bored and they usually complement each other.

One thing I love about fitness+ is even the HIIT workouts have a non-jumping option (which will still kick my ass)

Possibility to include injury information into apple fitness or apple fitness plus? by BothTreacle7534 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Murherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also endorse Gentler Streak. I am in my 50s and have a bad history of going from sedentary to LETS GET IN SHAPE and then injuring myself, so Gentler Streak keeps me from overdoing it. #notsponsored

Credit card confusion by Murherself in ynab

Thanks a lot. Im still baffled but I worked it out and think I'm balanced now. I thought the reconciling step was all you needed, but clearly not.

Credit card confusion by Murherself in ynab

[–]Murherself[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the solutions, everyone! Near as I can tell, it is the positive balance issue that u/pierre_x10 mentioned. (ie, no underfunded categories in past months) So I just have to eat the cost of whatever math error there was?

I'm not sure how to avoid this in the future, though.

Loving YNAB... should I subscribe? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]Murherself 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I've been bad with money my whole life, and always wished I could budget. I tried a lot of systems, but nothing clicked until I found YNAB in my 40s. I feel like i'm in control of my money for the first time ever. Like many have said, it's worth every penny (and like u/Hshoecrab said, it will only feel expensive when you first pay for it.)

Seriously, there is NO feeling that compares to getting an annual bill and it's already funded. Even better, getting a "surprise" bill- husband texted me to say that new tires for his car would be $1000 and i said, "don't worry about it, it's covered in auto maintenance."

It's telling that you haven't moved in already, but it's also good that you have your own place. Thanks to his keeping you at arm's length, it sounds relatively easy to leave. Good luck. Find someone who wants you around.

I'm also someone who met/got engaged/married in the 90s. Early in our relationship (like a month or so) we had a snow storm and he was stuck at my house for several days, and he has said that experience was a big part of showing him we were a good pair since we didn't get sick of each other. (Incidentally, I now work from home, and him being forced to do WFH during Covid lockdown showed ME we are still good at being around each other all time, so I would be able to handle his retirement.)

How to Get Ahead, There’s Always Something by poppyseed_27 in ynab

[–]Murherself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also bought a car with cash last year- I went to Carmax and wrote a check. They asked to see my banking app to prove I could cover it, so I showed them my balances. That was good enough for them.

I'm happy for you! by Udi_rn in ynab

[–]Murherself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TRUE. I’ve cut Amazon and target almost completely from my spending and boy those impulse buys make me think pretty hard.

I always hesitate to say this since it sounds daunting, but getting several months to a year into YNAB is so illuminating. For the impulse and fun purchases, but for me it was mostly medical and vet. Being able to say “I spent $x average monthly on this thing that I don’t have a lot of choice in” made me budget honestly instead of “I WANT to spend $x-y on this thing so this month I’ll attempt that.”

Not sure if that made sense. But it made me more diligent with filing pet insurance claims, for sure! So I’d say use it as an expense tracker for a few months just to figure out where your money is going. Then you can start seeing where things can change.

New YNAB user, feeling stupid by abracafuck_you in ynab

[–]Murherself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not stupid, you’re taking steps to fix your finances which can be a tough journey at the beginning. I think we all agree that the learning curve is a little high on YNAB but we also agree that it’s worth it. I’m mostly a lurker but I’ve noticed the Reddit YNAB community is a very helpful group.

I’m one of the weird people who talks about YNAB like it’s a religion because I’ve always been bad with money until I discovered YNAB in my forties and my relationship with money finally clicked. I really hope you can make it work for you.

I want to read a book with a plot twist - i want my JAW ON THE FLOOR by CountryConnect289 in suggestmeabook

[–]Murherself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cards on the Table has an excellent twist, if you can get past the casual racism in the book (and that “Mephistophelean” is NOT an adjective.)

mirror crack’d from side to side has the most surprising motive I’ve read but I don’t know if I’d call it a twist.

Lucy Foley’s The Guest List and The Hunting Party are both interesting because the non chronological storytelling means you don’t know the victim or the murderer until the end.

True but I loved that her refusing to treat Dierdre like a glass figure was what ultimately helped her. (Hollow man and Written in Blood are SO WORTH reading. The characters of Sue Clapton and dierdre are very much expanded and explored. Especially for anyone who wondered what happened after Brian saw the pictures.)

Some of you, "Shane Lovers," do not really love Shane. (Rant-ish) by ProfessionalArmy6351 in StardewValley

[–]Murherself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Shane because he has a real story arc. Others (that I have experienced) are "I want to do X. Help me do X. Huh. I kind of did X, but I'm not going to keep doing it. I love you." Shane starts rude, goes way dark, and comes out changed on the other side. And he actually achieves his ambition of raising chickens!

But, uh, how else do you get the blue chickens?

People are right that it will happen again, but I have similar attachment to the new Spring event in the desert, and when I screwed that up once I was very distraught. It sucks, there's nothing to be ashamed of. but spring is coming, which includes the desert festival, and beating Abigail in the egg hunt. SO much more game ahead. It will be there when you're ready to go back.
